@reviseyourdemise I understand... i dont like labs too... Would you travel alot? thats up to you mostly. You can volunteer or get internships around the world as much as you want/can. If you do research you will be able to travel to conferences/events about the topics you study, if you do conservation it would be similar. Or you could even do science communication (natgeo, discovery channel, BBC, etc) they travel alot too! cheers!
@danielmartinex yeah i would... that would be great and the topics would be something with marine biology or zoology and write stuff about it for the heck of it! what are you currently doing if you're doing this?!
@reviseyourdemise Im about to start uni next year :P But i have a lot of contact with biologists and geologists so i sort of know how the thing works :D I want to study ecology and evolutionary biology
@danielmartinex cool it sounds like fun but a lot of math o.O i think i'm majoring in marine biology and minoring in zoology... i just hope it all works out! and good luck!!! :D
I'd love to become a Wildlife Biologist or Zoologist. I've still got some time to think about it but I really know I wouldn't enjoy anything more. When I was little I'd say I wanted to be a vet. Now I see the more complex fields that deal with animals and I'm thrilled to say that this is what I want to spend my life doing. Is there anything I should be doing now, in high school, that will up my chances of getting a shot at one of these careers?
I just found out my passion is working with wild life animals..... urg, but i already have a IT undergrad and a master in management.... what can I do with it? Why didn't i see this earlier?
@tammyx423 why would it be too late? it's only "late" because we're brought up to think that our lives have to be linear and that you're stuck with the choices you made. who cares if you're 65 years old and you're only now discovering your passion. i'm sure you can find a way to use your degrees with an organization that works with animals (obviously in a management type of position), but if you really want a hands-on experience, maybe you should consider taking a few classes in biology.
good luck! i'm actually in my final year of college and am thinking of joining Operation Wallacea in one of their many research expeditions across the globe. It's GREAT for the experience (and for the resume) but it sure as hell can be pricey. The good thing though is that the org helps you set up fundraisers to get you going, so it's really not impossible. But i'm going to need a hell of a lot of luck raising 4500 dollars.
you will prolly have to take calculus. prolly by college you will be ready for calc, even if you think you cannot do it now. i got horrible grades in hs math, but now am doing excellent in my college math
Yes, well kind of. I am a zoology student with a cooncentration in pre-veterinary medicine and I have to go as high as calculus I and take an statistic class. I am currectly taking calculus and it's sort of tough but if you are still in high school I will recommend to take as many math classes as you can and if you can take pre-calculus or calculus then you will be ahead of the game. Zoology is an awesome major, I totally love it. Good Luck
Me? ok,
-strong passion for animals since forever..seriously.
-i'm determined, perfectionist, utterly patient.
-fear of talking to crowds -fear of heights but that can be overcome-.-'
-i like the idea of travelling in my career
-i dont know what job i want to have yet. Keeping my options open.
-is there a job that can get me involved with rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned, abused, or endangened wildlife.- maby from poachers
-Any job ideas?
