@PopPrincesses Yeah the dvd has to contain the iso file of the operating system. If you are going to be using ubuntu you can just download the file to your computer from the ubuntu website. But if you want vista or something you need the data for it on a disc

for those of u who think that VB may not be necessary and think that if u have an OS,why not just install it....here is why this program is great. u have a game,or editing program that wont run on XP,but will on Mac. so u will say sure i will just install Mac ,run my game,and happy living. wrong! REMEMBER: INSTALLING A NEW OS U NEED TO ERASE YOUR HARD DISK!!! this program u dont need to. the program will let u install the OS and u do not have to clear your hard disk.

XP, u need the disk, u cannot boot XP from VB without having an XP OS disk. so, in simple, u need to have the OS u are about to load on a disk. so if i want to boot XP and i have Vista, i need to XP OS disk. hope this helped. BUT REMEMBER, THIS IS WHAT I THINK,MAY BE DIFFERENT.

@Aar0nDavis That means that you haven't selected an .iso or put a proper bootable image in your dvd drive. Make sure you go to setting>CD/DVD-ROM>choose either dvd drive (make sure you select the proper one, or choose iso image file (browse for your iso image).

Have you tried hitting Ctrl and the F key?

This will resize the guest OS to full screen.

After a computer accident(I kicked it then threw it away) I was at a loss without linux. For various reasons Virtualbox is the perfect solution for my new(used) pc and YOU helped.

I must have a newer version of VB because the system menu is a bit different and it took a bit to get my cd/dvd drive to be recognized. The VB install hung at the end while trying to set its network up. There are SIMPLE solutions available at the VB forum.

I have a running virtual Mepis Linux.
