  • Holy shyte *** I heard ** should have read .... BUM

  • I'm not usually one for cover versions ( unless done GOOD) I herd this on no fucking messiah ' and I was Blown away '' . Eddie's is one on his own, ..Fell for them before ever seeing them and

.I've never looked back. I've been a FAN for 20yrs and will be plus ..... I so don't want this to sound corny ( which I know it will '' But what the who ..... You Guys ROCK my WORLD ...

    There said it .....

    .....

  • good cover but the classic gives me a sense of joy.

  • Gosh...I love you Eddie!! Still my fave since junior high :-)

  • Amazing what you can find on YouTube. Great cover of this song by an amazing band!

  • One of my all time favorites performed by the BEST of the Grungers, how awesome!

BTW, Eddie Vedder changes the words of his own songs to match his mood, so is it surprising he does it on a cover also?

  • WOW! Thanks two of my faves.

  • He does a good job but seriously... if you're going to do a cover... get the words right.

  • I remember having this on some bootleg casette tape many many years ago. I listened to it over and over. Thank you for posting it!!

  • Geil!!!

  • Eddie Vedder just can't do a bad job on anything....voice is unique and a gift!

  • not the best cover, but not the worst either.

  • I love and I mean LOVE! Pearl Jam but didn't have high hopes for this cover but I was wrong. :)

  • Steve Cropper. Not Otis. Cropper is the guitar player.

  • Great version. Eds voice is amazing as usual

  • Love this awesome

  • I knew that this was going to be bad before I even clicked on it....

  • any other info on this performance? when/where it was? where you can download it?

  • Is this on a cd?

  • @rickeyhenderson88 What's wrong with someone doing a cover and paying tribute to someone they admire? It was a live show and he was standing right next to him rofl.

  • love Pearl Jam but the original is 1000x better ^^

  • wow this cover beats Cash's cover of hert by NIN, and that's a bold statement if I do say so mysef.

  • @bandawe999 too bold, way too bold one is a grizzled old man taking a song and changing it from whiney to poignant. the other is a meh and unneeded cover of one of the greatest songs ever made

  • You can't compare with the original. They have to be viewed differently. Great cover, but, no, nothing will compare to the original. This doesn't try to. Eddie makes it his own.

  • The fucked the song up.

  • i love eddie vedders voice, and this song of otis redding

  • Because it's Pearl Jam covering the song? Otis Redding and Eddie Vedder are two very different singers if you didn't notice.

  • This doesn't have the same calm, relaxing feeling as the original...

  • hear that reaction!!??? at the beginning!!

  • this is good.....very good..........but it doesn't beat Otis

  • Pearl Jam is my favorite band... and this is a awesome cover. It's not better than the original by Otis Redding, but I don't think Pearl Jam or anyone could do that. Doesn't mean it's not amazing :)

  • Not a bad cover at all both versions are good in there own way thats for sure

  • Im going to see these guys live boy sept 25th, i grew up listening to mostly hip hop but Vedder is my fucking hero like dude said he could cover twinkle twinkle and fuck it up boy wooaaaa!!!!!

  • Not better than the original, just a nice cover...

  • Thumbs down for anyone who thinks this is better than the original.

  • @Kenworth, brilliant cover but no way it's better then Otis's original.

  • Thank you pearl jam. Thank you.

  • @KENWORTHk100PEOPLE -__- nothing beats the original.

  • AWESOME SONG!!!

  • Pearl Jam is one of the best bands ever. Eddies voice is one of a kind.

  • 57 people obviously have some sort of hearing problem. this cover is brilliant.

  • watchin the ships roll in, then you watch em roll away agaiin.. lillian.

  • this cover is way better than what i thought it would be!

  • Lived in Memphis...been to Stax...good work Eddie

  • So who has the best rendition so far?

  • @riveramj14 Otis Redding

  • thanks for sharing . most remixes actually bring some forgotten songs back to life. for example say you posted this and some one likes the original. well if they really did not like it ( i liked it ) im sure they looked up a original there fore making a old forgotten song alive once again. ok well kinda rambled on but you get my point right?

Aloha and thanks I thought it was a cool version

  • Steve Cropper cowrote this tune with OTIS my best guess is that Mr cropper was in the audience.

  • People saying that Pearl Jam's version is not as good as the original should remember this, Pearl Jam are paying homage to Otis with this cover and we all know no matter how good the cover is, the original is always the greatest, otherwise it would not have been covered in the first place!! R.I.P. Otis

  • @hoonchange

Great comment hoon. When an artist, such as myself, decides 2 do a cover, it is never about tryin 2 make a song better than the original. If somebody does a cover & they think it's better than the orignal, they probably over-value their own talents, or the song was probably never a hit N the first place. Artist choose 2 do a cover because of the personal admiration they have 4 the original artist, or 4 their personal relation 2 the song.

    I dig both rendentions!

  • otis reddinbg was/is legend

  • 49 people suck

  • not a spot on Otis redding's

  • @xtc69me I don't think it's intended to be a spot-on Otis Redding...hence the "cover" by Pearl Jam =)

  • No worries about Otis Redding being outdone, then!

  • i bet Eddie can cover Twinkle Twinkle little star and make it sound fucking awesome somehow

  • @pearljamcalgaryfan you make it sound like "eddie" made THE DOCK OF THE BAY sound better. HAVE YOU HEARD OF OTIS REDDING???!!!

  • @TheeOriginalG dude he makes everything sound better, and yes i've heard the original professor caps lock, obviously nothing beats originals(most times), all i was saying is that he does tons of covers and they all sound brilliant

  • @doodman73 pearl jam brother man it's pearl jam. They sound alot alike though.

  • 45 justin bieber fans

  • Maybe he was there in spirit...?

  • i love the song

  • Should be called dock of the gay

  • @deekeeley83 if that was a joke its slightly funny. If that is your opinion of the song you should die.

  • @deg3899 Just because you like cock on the bay doesn't make my comment any less valid.

  • Its gud but nobody sings it like otis I cant even find the original on you tube thats wut sucks sometimes u just wanna hear the original

  • @klewisjr83 Really? you can't find the original? Son, you couldn't hit water if you fell out of a boat.

  • unless your boat was on dry land. perhaps

  • @10ssomeone

What if the boat was on land?

  • @10ssomeone Well it's pretty hard to find water if the boat is docked in a hangar or a truck

  • @shizyballer (i dont think that was his point)

  • @10ssomeone ... if you fell off the dock of the bay.

  • @10ssomeone Thats fuckin hilarious LOLOLOLL

  • @10ssomeone Bwahahaha!!!! Thats good stuff...

  • @10ssomeone ahahaha

  • this is dave mattews band you retards

  • @doodman73 Pretty sure that's Eddie Vedder. He's my husband. Well.... he doesn't know that yet, but I'd know his voice anywhere. Yup, that's him. Dave Matthews is my ex-husband. I had to dump him 'cause he sings so bad.

  • @doodman73 lol your an idiot thats Eddie Vedder for sure not dave matthew

  • @doodman73 lol certainly not dave matthew

  • @doodman73 lol certainly not dave matthews

  • @doodman73 This is pearl Jam off there album Unplugged & Undrugged. I looked up the song it has a list of the covers of it pearl jam is on it but Dave matthews band is not. I also checked ALL their albums And I mean studio, live DVD including encore songs and bonus disks and can find NO record of DMB ever doing this song.

Now try not to call people retards untill you show me and these nice pople proof!!!!! I will be waiting

  • @fireman66767 - alright, a few years back on slime wire i found the song under DMB and guitar tabs under the same and im not really a jam fan so dont get your panties in a bunch. took me a while to find this one and i dont really care who did it...but yes they do sound a bit the same to someone else's reply also mattews is from atlanta so i asumed wrong gawwwwwwwww

  • all of ya should shut the f up about who did what and enjoy pearl jam..they r fucking awesome!

  • Otis Redding is Jimi Hendrix Jr...

  • @MisterTheRandom otis is actually a year older than jimi

  • Awesome remix of Otis Redding's version! Would never of thought Pearl Jam could of pulled this off so well!!!

  • Load of shit, I've seen Pearl Jam countless times. They have only covered this Track by Otis once! I've seen them live about eleven times now. Not including Eddy Vedder solos shows.

  • just another song some one else made bank off of thnx to some one else's jam

  • You don't love Pearl Jam if you don't like this cover, clearly you've never been to a Jam show, they play this all the time. Donk.

  • @QDUBDUBDUB I'm a big pj fan but I can't tell if you're joking. The website says they've only covered this one time in 94. Do they really play it all the time? Ive been to quite a few shows over the years as well. thx.

  • @QDUBDUBDUB they've played this once. only once. donk.

  • Love pearl jam, but this cover sucks... big time

  • Sitting on a cock cuz i'm gay.

  • @mbguitar watch funny people on HBO?

  • @mbguitar I saw that show too! Funny guys! "...Whisteling..."

  • Amazing..

  • Amazing..

  • Terrible

  • Doesn't hit the mood the real true feelings of the song that the great Otis Redding and Neville do, but nevertheless...it's the great Pearl Jam. Sounds like Jam.

  • I can do what ten people what me to!!! So i gues i remain the same whoooo!!!!!!

  • @amazingisaac i get that but biggest rockband loving legendary soul icon? lets keep it as a great moment

  • damn, if only he got the whistling part

  • Luv this

  • first time I have ever listned.

  • @dirkhh

watch the sara bareilles cover. your mind will be changed its incredible

  • it should be forbitten to cover the original of this great Otis Redding - Song

No one can get close to it!

  • One of the hardest songs ever to cover, not that it's a musically hard song, but to recreate the feelings and soul of it is extremely hard, and I think Pearl Jam has the best version of this other than Otis. :)

  • WTF.. If otis Redding was there, you should probably run...

  • 34 people fell from the dock

  • @zaurtrien

    hahahaahha lol

  • Superb job, Pearl Jam. I love Otis' song so much, as do millions of others. Covering it well enough to be palateable is a task. Doing it this well = true talent. They added their flourishes, and it worked.

  • pearl jam can play a variety of types of music because of all the talent in their band, i love it

  • Please leave this song alone!

  • I was not expecting this to be good at all, but dude.... this is amazing.

  • Yeh Pearl Jam.... jammin to the Black Pearl > Otis is and always will be the beautiful .......Black Pearl OF SOUL . May He rest in peace forever

  • a shining example of "why am I clicking this...its gonna suc-" "HOLLLYY SHIITT!!!!!"

  • Damn he can sing it!!!

  • absolutely amazing...

  • i must say, pearl jam can cover just about anything

  • majestuosa version!!! excelente como todo lo que interprete PJ.!!! GRACIAS!!!!

  • this is just amazing.. i can't stop listening!

  • Comment removed

  • thx a lot!!!

  • I think that he meant his spirit was in the audience.

  • @unicorneyelash Uh, no...he was talking about Steve Cropper.

  • Pearl Jam freakin rocks this song... love the original Otis was the man!.. but this one is so freakin awesome.... hard to choose a fav.... ok, original is best.......but rock it Pearl Jam! bringing this fantastic song to a younger crowd is way cool! I Love it!

  • This is too real. Hell of a job, Vedder.

  • it just isn't the same without the timeless voice of Otis-nevertheless-he is not around to sing the legendary song-it is great that pearl jam introduced the song to younger people

  • This was in '94 and Otis was in the audience. I'd say that doing one of his best known songs is THE single greatest way to pay tribute and respect to the man.

I don't remember Otis running up on the stage telling them to shut it down. He obviously approved. PJ did an awesome job covering this classic. So all you youtube e-haters can stuff it.

  • @islandsi

Umm... I'm not sure which Otis you might be talking about that was in the audience.... but Otis Redding died in 1967.

  • @calyxx001 what aboot otis reddenbacher?

  • @luvstosplooge14 otis redding and orville reddenbacher are two different people

  • @gomerpilot no shit dumbass. way to point out the obvious

  • @calyxx001

you dumbass........ the song is called (sittin on) the dock of the bay

they were'nt saying otis was sittin IN. way to read.

  • @Jendramahuron I know what the song is called. Read the first line of islandsi he said "This was in '94 AND OTIS WAS IN THE AUDIENCE" So STFU. Way to FAIL!

  • @calyxx001 who did he died?

  • @calyxx001 its a steve cropper song

  • @woolly1974 Otis Redding wrote this song you fucking chuckle head

  • @bendrinkin19 Educate yourself so you don't make a fool of yourself again in the future. You commented on here so I assume you know how to run a google search for STEVE CROPPER.

If not the most influential guitarist in the Memphis soul music scene, Steve Cropper is definitely near the top. He was a member of 'Booker T & the M.G.s', wrote songs for and performed with Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin and Sam & Dave (he's the Steve referred to when they say "Play it, Steve!" in "Soul Man").

  • @calyxx001 I think he was talking about Otis Rush. But he did mess up.

  • @calyxx001 otis didnt write this song he sang it

  • @robpavi1 Erm, he co-wrote it with Steve Cropper, his guitarist, actually

  • @islandsi

This was in '94 but Otis was not in the audience. Otis died in 1967, so that's pretty much impossible. I haven't considered resurrection, though. Pearl Jam played this with Steve Cropper, who was at the gig. Actually, few inches on the right, under 'suggestions' you can see the whole video from the show. watch?v=Wl3NeDo99GE

  • love otis but you cant argue with this version

  • Has covers go, and coincidences happen, who could have planned something as cool as this

  • This is a very good song that many artists have covered; Pearl Jam does as good of a cover as anyone else.

  • disgusting :/

  • @Plumede You are disgusting if you dislike this. The original is a classic but try to respect Pearl Jam's version too.

  • @GoodGuitarSolos

he raped the SOUL in such a cruel way,

sorry but i can think of no other way of summing it up :/

  • @Plumede Well, each to their own. I'm okay as long as Vedder's voice isn't insulted, haha.

  • @Plumede

He did not rape soul at all .. he just covered it ... I guess you are not fully aware of the meaning ''Cover"

If you want your soul version then stop wastin' time here .. all i have to say is you are fully wrong they totally nailed this cover :P

  • Please this sucks....Eddy vedder made it suck....epically.

  • @Madddman26 Learn to spell his name right before insulting their cover. This was good but what would a jerk like you understand?

  • i love pearl jam!

  • Fantastic! I also agree with the Cold Play version not being too good.

  • uuuuuuu good one

  • good cover

  • Awesome cover of a great classic!!!!!!!!!!!

  • These guys did it right!! I don't know what the hell Chris Martin (Coldplay) was trying to pull off

  • the Cold Play version blows sorry to say, I love cold play too lol, this version is by far superb compared or otherwise. Eddy Vedder's voice does this justice.

  • @josephgmen ignorant this IS Otis redding in this version... This was a live show where Otis and Pearl Jam played together. Brush up on your musical history before you talk shit.

  • @187riddler otis redding died in 1967. eddie vedder was born in '64. so unless pearl jam did this when eddie was 3 otis redding isnt in this song

  • Comment removed

  • @187riddler steve cropper, otis reddings guitarist was at the show with pearl jam. not otis

  • @187riddler brush up on your musical history before you talk shit

  • @joshuaencarnacion you killed that dude haha.
