My sympathies go out to you. I remember watching an ex-boyfriend playing guitar at a local nightclub. His nephew started a fight with a very innocent black man. Their family is very 'redneck'!!! The only reason was the nephew is racist. When the police can 'Georgie Porgy ran away'. GP had many similar encounters with the police. GP finally got his due when he was drunk and driving. He is now in a wheel chair; and can't walk anymore.
I remember taking the girls over to my best friend's house to "retrieve" her from her abusive boyfriend. We took mace, a taser and my other friend's very large boyfriend with us. It could have turned really ugly but we got lucky that day. Don't mess with city girls!
And yes, you would do it again... :o) (just guessing). People are their own best friends and it's so much easier to keep the drama out by turning and being *blind*.
If we would care more for each other such things wouldn't happen that much anymore. But it is all the same where ever you go people don't won't to get involved anymore or they are too scared.
You are an amazing person. Not a lot of people can tell a similiar story.
