  • computers are good for a child's development, especially video games. they are good for research and learning, and the video games give children who do not have much in common something to discuss and a window of opportunity to make new friends who enjoy the same games they do.

  • lmao

  • 30 Hours a week? I can beat that, easily..

  • story of my life

  • u know the funny part...I`m watching this on A Computer

  • I spend days playing Elite.

  • Don't let him near Runescape, although he'd probably kick ass at it.

  • Uno or Mario? ffs

  • "mindless games" eh?

Let's see you get past world 1 - 1 in Super Mario Bros.

  • LOL THE CRAPPY ROBOT AT FIRST SCREAMING "HEEEREEE ISSS YOURRR APPLEE"

  • What about the shit load of people that are addicted to their jobs and they are actually not happy with it? Sitting in a office 9-5?

  • LOL Middle classes. So retarded.

  • Charles is an ugly little fuckwit

  • The games industry has also experienced a slowdown. All 'the kids' are gravitating towards social networks, or out smashing up shops. Who gives a shit about trying to complete some lousy game that cost you 50 notes when you can go and blag a pair of box fresh trainers and a plasma TV for nothing? You can do it for real!

  • This was way before the birth of the world wide web, facebook, myspace youtube, bebo etc. Computers in them days were mainly used for playing games and to communicate with people you had to use your mouth!

  • 30 hours a week? pfft, I remember those days...

  • @stephanie62128 To gain a friend is to be a friend. You need to go out there and make friend with someone. Like if your groceries are empty, you need to take the initiative to go to do shopping, otherwise the groceries won't come to you automatically. Good luck.

  • That lady would shit a brick if she saw games and kids today. lol

  • @TwilightSylvestris I wonder what she'd say about level 85 WoW players these days, haha

  • pssssht, you call that a computer?

  • 30 Hrs a week at the height of his addiction? Imagine if the poor blighter had COD!

  • it's not that much if you think about it. It's only 2 and a half hour a day, how much time do you guys spend on the computer?

  • 0:35 what the ***** was that, if that thing come by my house id kill it

  • 7:55 ah, the days when Ocean software were kings! The good ole days of computers.

  • lmao XD Computer helping educationally :P lol

  • "its like ciggaretes ... " WTF that kid is reading of a scriipt .....

    gamers are for life bitches!!

  • If you have to get over computer addiction by playing fucking Uno then I'd rather stay addicted.

  • i think i have this- i play 6 hours a day and play before i sleep and when i wake up but i have many friends

  • I'm not addicted.......I can stop any time....OMG MY UBERCHARGE IS UP!

  • original mario!

  • This is dumb. It's obvious that kids that are addicted to video games are smarter than the rest of us. People are arseholes.

  • People who are addicted to video games have a problem. I play video games and im not addicted. I could throw out my Xbox and not give a damn about not being able to play on it.

  • Hey! That thing had 0:58 seconds left!

  • 0:10 What was that noise?

  • Damn that kid talk's like if he was withdrawing from drugs .....

  • I think addition is to the point of you can't live without it...

it's not live or death to play video games ya know

  • Is this why there are so many fat people around nowadays?

  • 0:58 space harrier think its the mastersystem because of the crappy gfx it's made by sega in 1986 i think ?

    4.32 supermario bros

I probably could name 90% of the games people show me.. if there actually a bit known.. just like this kid i was spending 12 hours a day with my c64 and snes. It's a pretty cold world once they suck you in.. as a kid its pretty hard to fight against. One of the first sentences is verry true they create a warm and trustworhy enviroment for kids..

  • It's not so much game addiction that's the problem. As I see it, it's only a side effect of the real problem. Fun addiction.

That bitch, manipulating a helpless child.

  • great, these addicts! I'm one as well and I like it. Gaming is better than sitting in a country where people have nothing to eat.

  • There are many of those PC additives in China and USA now. i do not know why????

  • poor kid.

  • If they had known what was still bound to come...

  • It seems that as computers have matured, the hypothesis this documentary provides is a grim reality. They never even saw GUIs, YouTube, Facebook, and the most addictive, Reddit, coming. You would never see a fight over moving the computer any more though--I'm typing this on a netbook, which is designed for moving about. Still, what she says about 'no friends' is bullshit. My friends are skilled programmers, so her theory is worth nil.

  • Yeah, 'cos a 15 year old would go upstairs and play on an educational piece of plastic crap. Not.

  • that bitch is so stuck in the past shes probably not got over the invention of the television and then colour tv well!!!! she probably spent years getting over the shock. stick to your ball in a cup woman

  • So video games are bad but it's alright to waste time playing fucking Uno instead? The hell's the difference other than one's shit?

  • these people are idiots

  • please forgive me for my langauge lol.. But its like the robot says: u are a ashole.

  • I would like to say that some of it is rubbish but here I am on the Internet on YouTube about to kick some no0bs butts on Street Fighter. Woo Super Mario :D

  • 4:03 epic look...

  • 0:34 if i was going to have a computer as a friend i wouldnt want that thing lol

  • This is hilarious! Thanks for posting this.

  • 1:36 boom mic in the shot!!! kids have such luxury these days with amazing graphics and online gameplay (who needs a friend!?)...

  • Lost on me , I was the year this was broadcast and now a game indsutry junior designer

  • that machine in the beginning sounds like steven hawkings lol. video games ruuuuuuule.

  • Comment removed

  • its just funny cus its all these retro games, imagen what parents back then would say about video games now xD

  • 30 hours a week is like a bit more than 4 hours a day or something. I think a lot of people easely get to about at least 37 hours a week or more than 44 hours a week if they don't have school or work.

  • i watch lots of tv and films but i dont spend much time on games.

  • lol he did 30 hour's a week. I sometimes to 70 lol. And video game's are not "Mindless" , only the people that see them as mindless are too closed-minded to see it as a form of entertainment.

  • things like this really piss me of slag of a hobby y dont u fucking prick

  • mario = mindless!? shigeru miyamoto is one of the greatest artists in pop culture you closed minded fuck!

  • 4 hours a week duude... I have played 14 hours on the computer when Modern Warfare 2 was out

  • 6:46 - "I'm allowed to play 4 hours a week"

4 hours a week!! How harsh is that?!! That's not even a decent single session. Poor bugger. This intervention has got to have hindered his videogaming skills. Didn't they realise how they were holding him back?

  • @bassloop at 4 hours a week, he could play 1 30-minute session a day monday through friday, and a 1 hour session on saturday which you're right, it is'nt alot.

  • "At the height of his addiction"

Jesus fucking christ, you'd think he was addicted to heroin or something.

And isn't it fairly presumptuous of the narrator to assume that he was playing "mindless games"?

Everyone knows Mario is one of the greatest games ever made, so fuck her!

Just goes to show how ridiculous these scare tactic TV show documentaries are when viewed in hindsight.

I bet that kid is now a shit hot games designer earning bucket loads of cash.

    Prick.

  • Why is the music so much slower in this version of Mario than in the regular version?

  • Because it is the PAL version and Mario was not optimised to run at the slower PAL frame rate, so the whole thing just ran slower than the original NTSC version.

  • i have the pal version (on a cart with duck hunt) and it doesn't play this slowly.

  • probably because you have the american version, and the game seen in this video is the european versions. for a long time american versions of different video games have always had a higher framerate. i don't know myself why it has to be divided into ntsc (japan and usa) and pal (europe). anyone who knows why?

  • @VUZOOKA i don't have the US version. i live in the uk and have a pal nes and pal games

  • I guess in the 90s the practice of doing things [in moderation] wasn't discovered yet..

  • to enjoy the crap the teachers with intellect like the makers of this program, are trying to drill into them. Imagine the life... IT... Programming... Mathematics....

What have these things ever done for the world? I mean, who has ever heard of Bill Gates... What does he do... GGRRHHHHHHH

  • LOL, joking aside, People like this make lots of money in the IT field now. :P

  • That kid got brain washed, man, they can't just take something away from a kid, even if it's "just" a videogame.

I mean why is it such a problem to play videogames yet it's totally okay to watch TV for 20 hours?

  • it's not okay to watch tv for 20 hours and i doubt anyone has said it is.

  • 4:02 DAT ASS

  • Why do the people in the UK called the Nintendo Entertainment System a Computer?Isn't is a gaming console.

  • This was twenty years ago, back before PC's really existed and the only ones that did were those gaming computer things.

  • They were simpletons back then.

  • wow! lol! 1990. i was 1. and all these kids are probably all highly strung business men/women no, who miss their computer game-playing days ;)

  • LOL thankfully most of the kids that where "addicted" to games are now the adults of the world and alot of the prude adults of the time are reaching pension age! xD!!!

  • who would be addicted to such a bullshit game? rofl

  • @KKTplm you obviously werent born in the 90s

  • @KKTplm the hell are you talking about thats mario

  • @KKTplm

it's classic... No better games at the time...

  • Thanks for posting this, I remember watching on tv originally and poking holes in it's flimsy arguments even back then.

What a shallow, one-dimensional approach this programme takes.

The way they manipulate shots to make it look as if Mario is endlessly hitting a block is laughable.

I imagine the programme makers feel pretty stupid now, in the realisation 20 years on that the video game industry makes more money than the film and music industries combined....

  • @rylojr1977 Some of this is true, but most of it is bullshit. 'Mindless games'? That's a piece of frigging history, goddamn it! Therapy? THERAPY? FOR A FUCKING NES? Those parents need therapy, they're bloody paranoid! They imply Uno, the most dull game ever, is more fun than using a computer. This is so one-sided. These people are so stupid!

  • @hotelmario510 Too right my friend. Video games are just the next great evil for dickhead politicians looking for a cheap target to blame the evils of young society upon. If it wasn't the bible, it was classic literature, Then it was Rock n' Roll, then it was cinema. Now it's video games. Technology, human progression and forward-thinking is just too much for weak minds. No work of art of entertainment has ever put a knife or a gun into the hands of a person.

  • @rylojr1977 I am, quite frankly, proud of the internet. The internet is no longer just The Internet, it's a brave new world.

  • i just got done playing a three hour marathon on xbox

  • he was bullied not video game addiction

  • This video angered me. The depiction of games as some form of evil is so unfair. I didnt like the upper class snobbery either, maybe the reason he played games so much was his family were dull as a lamp post. Stop labelling games as evil and worry about you know, actual evil things.

  • @ForeverChris - Exactly. This was early 90's BBC produced middle-class Daily Mail subscribing bollocks. Where is the mention of drug, booze, sexualisation during the programme? Not as if the graphics or sound were PS3/X-Box 360 standard is it? Shallow , blind bastards.

  • Aw... the kid is so cute. He's such a character.

  • why is the music on the super mario bros slower than usual? is it because it is in great britain where tvs run at 50 instead of 60 hz?

  • yes.

  • RSA has put pentagons computer under arrest.

  • its a nes not a computer

  • Comparing video games to smoking is a fucking insult! I also "like" how this TV documentary doesn't mention that poorly-researched documentarys like this, and all the other crap on TV has exactly the same educational value as video games. ¬_¬

  • this is so biased...its almost unbeivable.

seriously they demonizevideogames so much...seriously...besides all the super advanced kids at my school (the ones ahead like 3 years) ALL play alot on xbox 360s.

  • Democracy of usa is shut down.

  • These kids who were supposedly "addicted" to video games; I would say most of them eventually ended up with well paid jobs in the computing industry. It pays to play...

  • agreed, people who played games got knowledge on programming, now look at the video game industry, you can get some of the best paying jobs if you make something great

  • let the kid play his video games motha fuckasssss

  • super mario bros music tone is low

  • rofl at the synthesised miaow at 9.08

  • yes??
