  • Really, 1961 was the last year that the remaining 50s girl groups had chart success The Chordettes had a Top 20 with Never on Sunday). The Phil Spector/Goffen-King/Motown sound was starting to take off. Stuff like Mr. Lee and Maybe is really more of a prelude to the '60s girl group sound; McGuires mainly attracted members of the Silent Generation (born between the stock crash and the end of WWII).
