When I was a child, I spent my summers in Central Tennessee. I know accents somewhat. Marina's accent is not that "thick". It's more East Coast: South Carolina, Virginia, & Florida. These states have lighter accents, which are a blend of old British English. A foreigner can also understand people from this region better, because the accent is lighter. A Texan accent is very thick with a nasal drawel. Marina isn't doing this. Her husband is from Florida, so I think she would immitate this accent.

@ezridax Well Florida isn't considered part of the South, because it was owned by Spain for so long, which is why most people from there don't have very thick accents.

Well, I've lived here all my life and I DO consider it part of the south. The reason most of us don't have deep southern accents is because 7 out of 10 of any random selection of families are transplants from the Yankee states, or maybe one generation removed. The accent thing really doesn't have anything to do with Spain. Anyway, there are still some of us true southerners living here. I'll be glad to give you a tour of Disney World if you ever visit lol.

It was a sort of "British meets creole" accent that a non-native speaker doesn't realize sounds terrible.

In the same way that I'm from Central California, and (I would imagine) have a HUGELY thick accent... yet when I do a British accent all my retarded friends think it's hilarious.

I'd imagine if a BRITISH person heard it, they'd think it sounded like a Patrick Swayze in Point Break doing Hamlet.
