my issue is not about the age of the fighters i personally dont think that calzhaghe beat hopkins in that weak split decision victory and hopkins wanted a rematch but calzhaghe never stepped up to take it. calzhaghe piles up points like this is the olympics or something with tap punches and staying busy but hopkins laned the meaningful punches and the knockdown. calzaghe dominated jones ill give him that. i think jones was done long ago but age is never a good excuse.

he very well might have won but it just depends on how you view the fight with hopkins. some judges give credit to fighters who are busy and active while others value a guy who lands the more meaningful damaging punches and power shots. either way he just didnt look convincing and hence picked up the narrow split decision. even if hopkins had won which i thought he did it wasnt a great performance wither way and a rematch was due for these guys.
i accept that hopkins had a shout-it was a split after all but to me hopkins didnt throw enough late on and basically didnt want to fight

i dont think nothing was wrong with the fight its just calzaghe was throwing more than jones could take. With the cut on his eye he had to protect it and calzaghe was the smart one to keep aiming for that eye. All respect to calzaghe but i think he should end his career with a fight that isnt so one-sided. Calzaghe is a good boxer. However, as Max Killerman said during the fight, Jones isn't as fast as he was in his prime time but was still faster that Calzaghe. my issue is not about the age of the fighters i personally dont think that calzhaghe beat hopkins in that weak split decision victory and hopkins wanted a rematch but calzhaghe never stepped up to take it. calzhaghe piles up points like this is the olympics or something with tap punches and staying busy but hopkins laned the meaningful punches and the knockdown. calzaghe dominated jones ill give him that. i think jones was done long ago but age is never a good excuse.

i disagree with you on calzaghe hopkin-i felt calzaghe won fair by pushing the pace of the fight.
you talk sense and calzaghe does pile up points and it gets him wins but thats why he was so good. he always found a way to win even if it meant relying on those points.
to beat him you had to KO him and he was good/smart/lucky enough to never get KO'd so he never lost

he very well might have won but it just depends on how you view the fight with hopkins. some judges give credit to fighters who are busy and active while others value a guy who lands the more meaningful damaging punches and power shots. either way he just didnt look convincing and hence picked up the narrow split decision. even if hopkins had won which i thought he did it wasnt a great performance wither way and a rematch was due for these guys.

i accept that hopkins had a shout-it was a split after all but to me hopkins didnt throw enough late on and basically didnt want to fight
and yes it was a bad performance at least to watch although i felt given hopins trickiness to get a win was very good.
i think the rematch is a no goer because it would again be a messy fight where no one looks good and again would not be decisive as it would be a case of calzaghe's workrate against hopkins spoiling and single counter shots

Slappy was just that. He took fights he knew he would win. He was NEVER in a fight where the odds were 50/50 or close to it. He went into fight people knew he would win. Never was in a fight where where that was every bit a competitive as say, barrera/morales trilogy, pacman/marquez among others. By taking on hopkins and jones as his final fights shows how much he was avoiding fighting them when they were in their primes. Slappy can never mix his name among the sports elite fighters.

i dont think nothing was wrong with the fight its just calzaghe was throwing more than jones could take. With the cut on his eye he had to protect it and calzaghe was the smart one to keep aiming for that eye. All respect to calzaghe but i think he should end his career with a fight that isnt so one-sided. My problem with calzaghe is that for some reason all the top fighters in the division supposedly ducked him. Just because the top guys wanted more money doesnt mean they ducked him.

Calzaghe is a good boxer. However, as Max Killerman said during the fight, Jones isn't as fast as he was in his prime time but was still faster that Calzaghe. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the endurance he use to have. But I don't want to take anything away from Calzaghe. He is a marvelous boxer and a nice gentleman!

Think it was a bot of avoiding from both to be honest. Calzaghe managed by Warren ( the master of keeping fighters safe ) and Jones who was self promoted and looked on boxing as a business opportunity to keep winning.

People age at different rates. Jones jumping up and down between weight classes didn't help things. It's not good for the body later in ones career. Calzaghe is on his way downhill. Jones HAS BEEN downhill. If you had watched his career, which I doubt you have from your words, you would know this.

Jones exceeded his prime a long time ago. If they were all in their primes Jones is the best easily. Jeff Lacy aint shit to begin with. Excatly. only reason people to see this fight is because Calzaghes raw,jones use to be raw and people wanted to see if jones still had some fire. But people who have followed jones career can see he's way slower, he has no power in his punches anymore and I think he knows that because he wasnt even trying to swing at him.
