Yep. It allows you to use your iPhone on something other than AT&T, which in the U.S. is only currently working on T-Mobile I believe.

Yeah, but do you know why it won't work on Sprint. Sprint & Verizon for that matter are on CDMA networks. The iPhone is built for GSM. IT *MAY* (havent tested) work if you have some type of world phone rented through verizon/sprint which uses gsm. Take the sim out and put it in the iPhone. But that is the only way and world phones really expensive. T-Mo and AT&T are GSM networks.
