  • i put this in my altoid survival kit, very important to boild water

  • wat the heck that is sooooooo sick (=

  • 2 brothers 1 adventure

  • try it to eat that much aluminium and talk to me back after 2yrs or 3 LOL. You finish in Alziemher desease.

  • "structural rigidity" - what other type of rigidity could this thing possibly have besides structural?

  • wouldnt it be better to carry a messkit pan just because it is sturdy.....altho good vid i thought with a single layer it would burn after 2minutes

  • Thanks for a great video! I have the AMK pocket survival kit and it has a piece of heavy-duty foil in it, so I'm glad to find out that it works. I think it's great that you two brothers spend time together in the outdoors. Inspirational.

  • Aluminium is poisonous

  • @guruji243 you can eat a max of 7grams of aluminum per day! lol

    look it up!

  • I really thought that foil would just breakdown. And now I know....

  • is it safe to boil water in the foil? Some people say that boiling water in it releases the oxide from the aluminium and becomes poisonous....is this true?????? thx xD

  • thats awesome. finally something good on you tube.

  • makes a handy spit cup too...........haha

  • I'm goin to try that, maybe boil me an egg for breakfast, the next time i go camping.Just for fun..

  • i couldnt figure out how that worked.but now i do.thanks guys:)

  • The people that said they keep foil in their kit said they used a heavy duty foil probably one of those thanks giving day tossit pans lids recycled. That could serve multiple uses in a emergency situation. I say why not just get a canteen with a canteen stove or some other titanium pot if you need weight trimmed.

  • that's much healthier than boiling water in a plastic bottle, as heating plastic forces it to release toxic chemicals.

  • you forgot the ramen noodles in your survivor pack lol... ramen noodles and roaches will out live us all

  • It's not all that surprising that it worked. Most people that use alcohol stoves have tried that aluminum foil bowl many times before.

The idea is to have just the right amount of water to keep the sides from caving in, but not too much as to cause it to split open.

Although you are right about the foil getting dinged up or ripped while in storage.

The newer idea in pots is an aluminum beer can or a soda can with the top shaped into a cover.

  • ..how do you get the bowl out of the fire?

  • I used leather gloves.

  • @2brothersadventures aluminum foil doesn't really heat up, it just transfers heat really well. If you touch where there is hot water then it will be hot, if you touch where there is air it should be ok to touch with you bare hands. I do this with pizzas in the oven all the time.

  • just use two sticks or two knifes

  • use fast hands.foil doesn't retain heat to long.10 seconds...give or take.the only part of the bowl that should stay hot is where the waters @ down low.

  • I figured this would work, but like you have never tried it! Nice to know it works.

  • I have to say, I'm surprised and I will probably add some to my kit now. I even posted a video with and commented I wished somebody would do this, so thanks.

  • Pretty good vid. A few points I'd add. Another vote for heavy duty foil. You should also improvise a lid and a wind shield. Both would have decreased time to boil; and conserved water.

  • These are true points, but most of the kits we see people showing on Youtube just have a small piece of foil, not enough for an elaborate setup as you describe. Our point was to see if we could use the small amount people are packing to boil water at all. In the future we will do a Video on a more elaborate setup. Thanks for the info.

  • You're right about what most kits include. Sorry if I spoke out of turn. I look forward to your further videos.

  • You didn't speak out of turn. We welcome any input. We don't profess to be experts, just a couple of guys out having fun.

  • You are right of course. The point was to see if the foil would even hold up to the task of boiling the water in the first place.

  • nice video, thx. there is only one problem i see with boiling water. you boil it to get rid of bacteria and germs, ok, that means you need to keep it boiling for about 5 minutes. now take a cup of water, boil it for 5 minutes and see, whats left. not much. half a cup maybe. this will save your ass in the woods but it will take a lot of time to get enough water to survive. (needs ruffly a gallon/day if its hot) maybe half the day just to make water. keep this in mind, or use larger bowls :) 5*s!

  • the fast is bacteria will be killed at 160 deg. so once you get a boil at 212 deg. every thing has been killed for a few minutes anyway, once you get it to boil your done. The 5 min or 10 min boil methods arent true. Plus you can use a flat stone you help support the foil cup, and use can use HD foil or even tooling aluminum which is the stuff wind screens are nade of. Nice video guys keep it up.

  • Great points beast12101, thanks for the tips.

  • Nice idea, We will have to try that. Thanks for the idea!!

  • I use the bottom of a throw away turkey pan, Its quite a bit more sturdy. and it holds its shape better.

  • good video i always like your fires the way you build walls like that

it was windy thats prolly why it didnt boil to fast

  • really interesting, 5/5
