through friends who knew how to do it, and lots of practice. you inhale and close your throat a little. it takes weeks/months of doing it to perfect

Mate, if you are going to do it inwars then fine, but you will only damage your throat. It works and sounds better exhaling, its far more powerful. On this vid you can see him going into deep gutterals directly from the "pig squealing" which just goes to show its an exhale technique.

inhaling wont damage your throat because you are vibrating folds of skin at the back of it. by exhaling, you are violently vibrating your vocal chords which can cause permanent damage if you do it wrong.

but at live shows and on any new recordings they play it in drop A
