I think Nissa is just another hype deck....  While the synergy of ant queen/Nissa/vastwood is pretty cool....I saw it completely fold to some scrub kid playing earthquake...and then to a jund player who bit blast and cascaded into pulse...and then to a RW control player who pretty much used the same earthquake strategy. This deck is a lot like elfball... Runs out fast,is fun as hell to play...but can be completely wrecked in one turn. Congrats to Kali for taking it to the top!

i think the reason this deck won was the abundance of non-removal decks. this deck is just horrid if it's played against any deck with slight removal, oh really? nissa? let me just lightning bolt that right quick and swing with my ball lightning for game on turn 4

I have to disagree at Todd Anderson comparing Nissa with Elspeth price-wised.

The thing is, people open Shard of Alara packs pretty much only for Elspeth and Tezzeret, where those are probably the only two cards in the set that worth some cash, but unlike Zendikar in which had way more pricy cards.

Kali went in there with a powerful deck that no one expected (for a variety of reasons -- color, basic mechanics, and card choices) and had the right attitude going in ("I'm going to win!").

She definitely earned that win and her deck is bomb.

...And to think I was initially upset that I kept pulling Eldrazi Monuments from packs instead of Ob Nixilis or Mindbreaks...I love the surprises that come with playing Magic.

Usually the MTG community only gets angry at Wizards for fucking with their game... seeing this kind of venom directed at a couple who clearly just love to have fun playing magic because they were a dark horse winner at a big tourney is a really sad sight to see. I prefer red/green elves. How can an elf deck not utilize the best elf in standard? That said, I'm Bloodbraid doesn't really have a lot of great targets to hit. I mean, the best thing it's ever got for me is Lightning Bolt or Elvish Visionary. Maybe I'll try out this Ant Queen build.

And Nissa won't be as high as Elspeth. Elspeth can be used in almost any white deck, Nissa is only for this specific deck.
