I come from a Marine family. Im 11B in the Army. I love and respect Marines but I reckon Army infantry has it just as hard as Marine infantry, its just the NON COMBAT MOS's in the Army that have it easier. But dont be fooled cause Marine basic is longer that they have it harder or better. They do more D&C than the Army. 11B basic and AIT was hard when i was there. Alot of physical and mental stress but when i look back at it now after 2 deployments, OIF and OEF, id do it again.
But I don't see any point in arquing which is better the Marines or the Infantry, the Navy or the Army.F*** politics. You serve in any of them you're a SOLDIER who has to do his/hers duty and to serve his/hers country and it doesn't matter if you do it by jumping out of an airplane, fast ropeing someplace, or launching an massive desant on a beach or shooting the enemy from air/sea.For example: all beer is good but there is this one type you enjoy the most, same thing with different branches
Well I myself, If I'd be an american I'd join the 101st or the rangers... but I'm not so I have to settle with my countries regular infantry... But our training and accomplishements are great... We are a small country with a small budget, so we have had to learn how to accomplish a lot with very little... :) ... But since we are pulling our troops out of afganistan in few years so I quess I won't be seeing any action anytime soon, And I have to finish high school first.. ... :D ...
i havnt bothered to talk to a recruiter (have to wait 6 more months for this medicine I was on to work its way out of my system before I can get a wavier) but it is hard to get a slot for 11b?
I heard it was a bitch to get an opening, if worse comes to worse and cant get it I guess maybe I'll break family tradition and join the Marines sigh
At the moment, yes it'll be hard to get the MOS of your choice, but do good on your ASVAB, Basic Training (but don't stand out), and hopefully you have a clean background.
The reason being is the Army currently is 'overpopulated'. Give it your best and show you have the capabilities and good moral character and you can pull through.
I was just at meps in the begginning of october, and infantry was an EASY slot to get. A LOT of openings. You have to choose 11 x-ray at first. then the army desides whether you get 11 bravo or 11 charlie. More likely than not you'll get 11 bravo though.
Yeah, I just went through all the BS at MEPS. It's tough to just get into the Army, and I was the ONLY (literally) person to actually get the MOS of my choice (11x). Maybe because I got a 94 on the ASVAB and the next highest was somewhere around 60 (no way of confirming the reason). I didn't get any of the options I wanted though...
Most of the people that I showed up with were rejected for medical or criminal reasons anyways. I couldn't believe how selective it was!
i was just wondering if any other infantry recruits got asked to ship out to basic early cause i was supposed to ship out october 5th but now im leaving in september just curious thanks
Im going into 9th grade and decided im going to join the army after I graduate high school! I will be an infantrymen, then try to become a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant , maybe! After Im done in service Ive decided I want to design and create weapons for the army!
That's where i'm headed. Have you been there? Or have any knowledge about Fort Benning? Can you give me any tips on what I should focus on? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks. BTW, i'm going there Sept 8 of this year. Will it be hell for me? Please respond.
Ummm No. try air force. Army Is not Easy at all. their infantry training is Rough. not to mention infantry recruits start infantry training in BASIC training. Army Has Rangers, Green Berets, Ect. If any branch was the easiest it would be the Air Force. Check your facts before you bash a branch. Even when your not even in any branch..
Are you a retard? Must be because your pansy ass says Basic is easy but you have never gone through it. I have. It's not the hardest thing in the world but it is sure as hell not easy. The people who come in saying it's easy are the ones that are always coming in last at everything. Talk shit about something you know. Not something someone told you. (1-504 PIR Ft. Bragg NC)
@auburnfan27 my firned has been wrtting letter from fort benning and it sounds like they are really busy but he did say that the pt was too easy and hes in white phase right now
@09samwise it does get easier. The hardest part is the start. Just not knowing what's going on can get to you. Once you get settled and adjust to what is expected of you, everything else just falls into place. Tell him to keep his head up. It's almost over. lol
@IdidURmom2 Now it's easy. So more idiot kids can make it through and pollute the conventional army divisions. I hear now you can have fucking cell phones in Basic among other things. This was only back in 2007. You'll see. You'll get mad, pissed off at others because it's "too stressful", you'll miss home. Wait for deployment, our units here only deploy for 6 to 8 months, but give it the first round going over your head and you'll scream for momma, just like we all did.
@TrumpTD The regular Army is pansy as all hell. and so is the regular marine. Now the Army Infantry? Not quite that way. Airborne Infantry? your 82nd, 173rd, and 25th out of Alaska, these are some brute boys. I don't think I've seen any Marine come close to achieving the same fire superiority as these boys. But to each his own.
@xx76rockstar76xx Realy going through and branch of military is painful and a pain in the ass I have alot of respect for anyone army included I just come from a Marine family
i want to be in the strykers because a friend of the family was in thebrigades and he told me it saved his lfe more that once and he would have been ground beef if the rpg would have hit the humvi you know so thats why, they say you can request it in basic but idk if im buying it if that that case imma ask for fort lewis and schofield barricks
no, it's hit or miss where you get stationed dude. You can get airborne and RIP (ranger indoc program) in your contract, but that's it. Just do airborne, it's a good deal
actually you can get it in your contract. I had a few battle buddies at leonard wood that got it after AIT and in that case its a hit or miss. I can tell you this, its only available to active army and gaurd infantry. im a 74d and we have a CBRN striker with the bbsu system, acada, and the an/vdr2 that we use for chem/bio/rad/nuc recon missions and you have to be an active 74D to get into that, thats the L6 school
nah its not that bad dude, now and days its more of a mental factor, we had guys getting ELS'ed left and right for mental issues. but its not a bad idea to get in shape.
im 18 and considering joing the military. i want to either join the army or marines as a mechanic or infantry which is better and why do marines have that cocky attitude
well seeing as how im in the army my obvious opinion would be for you to join the army and go infantry, although if you want to have a nice paying civilian job after your time in service i would go with mechanic. you wont see much combat if any actually, the only way you would see combat is if you were being transported thrue the redzone. most of your deployment will be spent on the FOB. if you want to see combat go infantry, and as for marines.. well they just arent to bright is all.
cool cool lol ummm.........is the military hard? im like 5'11 140 pounds so im a small guy lol not to strong either so pull ups are gonna be embarising lol also do they take room and board/ food out of your salary?
well when your in basic training you get everything for free minus your uniforms which are taken out of your pay. but food and living are free. after you get out of basic and get to your unit you can get on base housing allowances and you pay for your meals but its not much. and no the army isnt really hard. yeah its tough but ive seen smaller guys make it. im actually almost your same size except i weight a little more. they wont let you quit.. theyll just push you until you are stronger.
no its not bad at all. some people are just really intimidated by the drill sgts, if you think they are theyre to hurt you then you will probably cry.. but if you think they are theyre to help you like they actually are then you'll be fine.
awsome, thanks for the information...id rather get info from someone actualy in the military then a recruiting officer who will say anything to get you to join
lol - I'm 12 stones weight, was 5'11" (years of jumping made me 5'10") . 2nd battalion Parachute regiment and SF. Size is not a guide, determination and fortitude is.
if you think your too small to drag a pack you can always be a tank crewman we need shorter guys they fit in the tanks better! =) plus we got icechests!
honestly it was one of the best decisions of my life, i was infantry and got to go to a ton of schools, ranger, sotic, airborne, javelin and so on... infnatry does not translate too much into civlian life but you will get money for school, im almost have my bachelors and actually miss a ton of the military... you have so many more schools and options to go to through the army than the marines, trust me... go army
For sure the US would help! But I mean Europe has a much larger population and what I would belive better technology! So I think you guys could handle Russia with the right coordination!
Europe's military technology outside of the UK is well behind the US right now. Reason being they have not tested their gear in actual combat and made all the necessary changes. Their stuff prob looks great on paper, but it needs to be battle tested.
My best friend is in the aussie inf and all we do is tell you marines which way to f#$%ng go, he copped a bullet in the leg from the marine standing next to him.
are you really that stupid? the british armys basic training is more than the us marines!! what does that say.more british soilders have been killed my americans than iraq's.americans go for quantity not quality!
You Brit's are way too arrogant. Your army's training is longer, but it's not really anymore intense then our Air Force's training from what I've seen of it. American training tops off at about 17 weeks for Infantry OSUT, and then our soldiers continue to train constantly once stationed at their units.
i can't believe you people.your all so pathetic.the army, marines, navy, and airforce all need each other as well as allies.with just one of these missing the rest are nothing!!
hallza actualy Airforce was created 50 years ago and does intellegence for all of em.. They do no part. the US army already has its intell and Actually back in the 1600s US ARMY Reserve was the only Real Branch and they fought every one.
yeh the marine are better because thay have been trained better and the marine have more intence training lession and have a lot more things to do then the army but very one has an inportant part in the army.
Bull crap. The US Army was waiting in Baghdad for nearly two days waiting on the marines to take their half. A CNN reporter told the viewers back home that US Army units were told to slow down during during the battle of Fallujah because the marines couldn't keep up?
Vietnam wasn't a bunch of kids, it was a professional guerilla army of hardcore communist commandos. they knew their shit. Same with Iraq. We are fighting professional terrorists and insurgents who are trained and supplied by Iran.
And no, the US military does not kill babies. That is liberal propoganda. Ironically, the insurgents who are fighting us have been known to shoot rockets at ambulances and carbomb schools.
If the us army is soo great, than why are a bunch of kids from iraq with home made bombs kicking their asses? Didn't the same thing happen in vietnam when a bunch of kids in pyjamas kicked their ass and sent them home?? you would think they would learn..
Hey %$#^Head, they aren't a bunch kids and they're not kicking ass. Way to believe what you see on CNN, not look up your history and you're probably a video go hero and a legend in your own mind aren't you? Come through Alva, Oklahoma sometime and ask for Reb, so an army infantryman can kick your ass you immature creep, and stop to thank better men and women who were willing to and ultimately did die for their friends family and country. You make me sick
Oh by the way have you served time in a real combat zone? Im talking about all balls out shit going on? If you havent then you have have no right to even think about commenting on something you have never experienced and I quote "fucking liberal politicians and their decisions to tell soldiers how to do their job without experience of their own and sitting at home while those decisions keep killing our servicemember."
being from a certain country doesnt automaticly make you a good or bad soldier you fuck tarts.... its all about the individual who is either the good or 'bad' soldier
Meh, Us army like gay now. Shit training, shit SF units, and why are their too many BLUE ON BLUE inccedents. Stop killing eachother and hurry the fuck up in iraq.
yes in numbers, not by common scence and training. And besides with the fucked govt u got at the moment china will be invadin u soon. Start payn em back and hurry the fuck up in iraq

I'm leaving July 22 for Fort Benning and my paper say's its 14 weeks 6 days long then you do A.I.T.
s3faded 2 years ago
14 weeks and 6 days is BCT and AIT. Thats the total time of them both. Basic for everyone is only 9 weeks.
sk8b1 2 years ago
Infantry is OSUT, meaning you stay at the same training unit for basic and AIT.
TheGreenSmoke 2 years ago
I know, but after that, you go to an infantry unit, and train constantly.
CaptainAmerica322 2 years ago
After OSUT, you go to Airborne/Air Assault if it is in your contract. If not, you go to your first duty station.

i hope you guys will help us in Europe if those fuckheads in russia decide to attack us
stomach5000 3 years ago 3
For sure the US would help! But I mean Europe has a much larger population and what I would belive better technology! So I think you guys could handle Russia with the right coordination!
dsm4eva2 3 years ago
Europe's technology is no different than ours. But yes, we would help them in time of need.
TheGeneralHimself92 3 years ago 2
Europe's military technology outside of the UK is well behind the US right now. Reason being they have not tested their gear in actual combat and made all the necessary changes. Their stuff prob looks great on paper, but it needs to be battle tested.

My best friend is in the aussie inf and all we do is tell you marines which way to f#$%ng go, he copped a bullet in the leg from the marine standing next to him.
badass91110 4 years ago
Yes the Army still trains with the Bayonet.
Davebuck187 4 years ago
actually the infantry does not train with the bayonet any more. they phased that out
biginfantry20 4 years ago

im an australian reserve soldier. from what i hear over here, american army kicks ass over marines anyday
sloc0006 4 years ago 4
are you really that stupid? the british armys basic training is more than the us marines!! what does that say.more british soilders have been killed my americans than iraq's.americans go for quantity not quality!
hallza909 4 years ago
You Brit's are way too arrogant. Your army's training is longer, but it's not really anymore intense then our Air Force's training from what I've seen of it. American training tops off at about 17 weeks for Infantry OSUT, and then our soldiers continue to train constantly once stationed at their units.
garganjuhboy 4 years ago
Sorry but my english isnt so good, so what did you mean?
The american army kicks the asses of the marines, or the marines kicks the asses of the american army?
but marines are imn the american army, thats carzy ?!
marshallxms 4 years ago
Your english sux and ur retarded!
dsm4eva2 4 years ago
i can't believe you people.your all so pathetic.the army, marines, navy, and airforce all need each other as well as allies.with just one of these missing the rest are nothing!!
hallza909 4 years ago
hallza actualy Airforce was created 50 years ago and does intellegence for all of em.. They do no part. the US army already has its intell and Actually back in the 1600s US ARMY Reserve was the only Real Branch and they fought every one.
UnspokenSoldier 4 years ago
cause they get their fucking job done quicker the army lags dont get me wrong i like the army but i think marines are better
marleyfan43 4 years ago
yeh the marine are better because thay have been trained better and the marine have more intence training lession and have a lot more things to do then the army but very one has an inportant part in the army.
BryanAdamsRocks123 4 years ago
Bull crap. The US Army was waiting in Baghdad for nearly two days waiting on the marines to take their half. A CNN reporter told the viewers back home that US Army units were told to slow down during during the battle of Fallujah because the marines couldn't keep up?
Davebuck187 4 years ago
army is nothing compared to the marine corp
marleyfan43 4 years ago
but you didnt explaine to me why marines get deployed for 6 months and the army gets deployed 12-15
ohioguardsolider 4 years ago
army infantry is just as well trained as marine infantry except army infantry has better equipment, i would take army infantry over marine anyday.
gruntsnpr 4 years ago
marines are better than army
marleyfan43 4 years ago
oh so that explains why their depolyments last 6 months and active last 15 and guard and reserve last 12 ok

If you really support the Americans troops go see for yourself or talk to veterans denied meidical attention or watch and listen to their words.

wow, liberal losers again....
Ironically, the insurgents who are fighting us have been known to shoot rockets at ambulances and carbomb schools.

oh yeaa... unless your in the army you wont actually know that
infantrysoldier666 4 years ago
if you don't stand behind our soldiers, feel free to stand in front of them, that goes for all allied countries
infantrysoldier666 4 years ago
If the us army is soo great, than why are a bunch of kids from iraq with home made bombs kicking their asses? Didn't the same thing happen in vietnam when a bunch of kids in pyjamas kicked their ass and sent them home?? you would think they would learn..
hinspere 4 years ago
Hey %$#^Head, they aren't a bunch kids and they're not kicking ass. Way to believe what you see on CNN, not look up your history and you're probably a video go hero and a legend in your own mind aren't you? Come through Alva, Oklahoma sometime and ask for Reb, so an army infantryman can kick your ass you immature creep, and stop to thank better men and women who were willing to and ultimately did die for their friends family and country. You make me sick
metallicarebellion 4 years ago

dsm4eva 4 years ago
Oh by the way have you served time in a real combat zone? Im talking about all balls out shit going on? If you havent then you have have no right to even think about commenting on something you have never experienced and I quote "fucking liberal politicians and their decisions to tell soldiers how to do their job without experience of their own and sitting at home while those decisions keep killing our servicemember."
