Now that Red Bull has revealed (which turned out to be rFactor Pro!) their sim rig, it doesnt really look so much different to this one. I'd like to see a sneak preview of McLaren's sim.
from what I can this is just the video game release of rfactor, not the expensive training one, and it doesn't model bumps in the track or hitting curbs...
F1 teams don't even share tire pressures, they would confiscate all video replays of their laps if they could...Williams was the only team public about their sim for publicity reasons, red bull can afford to make one like this
and you can just tell, watch when cranking on the wheel, it doesnt fight our bounce back like the one in this video
@SuperColossal33 Well, checkout this article from R1 Racing mag: tinyurl (dot) com (slash) 35nv8ux
It's the same system than in that article. It's driver training system not a setup tool.
I noticed the oddly easy looking steering too, and if they're using the same tracks with no added laser scanning than all rFactor or Race07 players are using, then it is a bit funny.
about all this "understeer" talk.. it's bullshit because this is just a simulator, nothing like driving in real life. Also this sim is the same standard as computer games like rfactor, so not very advanced :P
@Killerkarpfen1990 what i mean is that the simulation probably doesn't handle like in real life, as the steering looks way too smooth.. Unless he is just driving casually
@Mongoose1358 afaik the Simulations like rFactor Pro e.g. are pretty accurate. Of course they can't simulate the G forces and I guess that's what makes driving F1 cars that hard. The pure physics of driving isn't that difficult I think if you have the data. And the steering looks smooth in a real car, too. It has to because otherwise he wouldn't drive that fast. It's not 1:1 like real life but the driving for itself is pretty good I think.
There are two tendencies for a car (F1) to oversteer. With the accelerator OFF and as the car ENTERS the corner, as the car SLOWS down the vehicle's weight transfers heavily to the front and lightens the rear CAUSING the oversteer, this is usually a mild one and there's still considerable grip. The other one is oversteer with the accelerator ON, as the car EXITS the corner and the all the vehicle's weight moves to the back. This usually gives too much wheel spin and is not a desirable method.
Call me a retard if i get this wrong. I see Nico more as an understeer driver. He enters the corner with accelerator off. He steers and the car slides a bit forward. If the car oversteers with the accelerator OFF, then he's an oversteer driver - BUT based on this video, he isn't. He did oversteer on a few corners, but he was ON the accelerator when that happened. Therefore that's more of a power induced oversteer ON EXIT. Lewis Hamilton is an example of an oversteer driver.
You can see Nico Rosberg understeer considerably alot on the following:
0:08, 0:22, 0:45 (although this one, he missed the apex, caused by missing the braking point.),
1:02 is an example of OVERSTEER as he exits the corner and with the accelerator ON. Although it may have also been induced by the chicane caused by a sudden left-right weight transfer.
I think it makes you realise just how good these guys are, when put in a context I can somewhat relate to. I have rfactor as well as numerous other racing simulations, complete with steering wheel. You kind of take it for granted when watching them in the cars all the time, but this was some very very pin point driving. great video.
i dont know if sim itself is so much better than rfactor but damn that gotta have awesome ffb and that cockpit was made for just that sim so its awesome
even though the singapore track is beautiful, i never like driving the singapore track! it has too many heavy braking corners and it's more difficult to drive than monaco! even the drivers complained about the bumpy roads! this is unpleasant as it can sometimes turn cars out of control and into a wall! by the way, i'm driving this track with rfactor f1 mod and f1 2009 challenge delux!
Probably he made some mistakes in this lap. There's no problem with that since he was still learning the track and he was in a simulator, where he could make all mistakes he wished cose he was not spending tires, gas or anything.
This simulator is made by BRD simulation, and is probably running the same engine as netKar Pro. Stefano Casillo works for BRD, and is the creator of netKar. Look up who BRD are on google.
In an air-conditioned room, while sitting in a stationary chair? Possibly.
Remember, when the car is going around corners with over a ton of downforce, over 100 mph, and trying to pull your head off of your shoulders, its not that simple anymore. I bet it's a lot more fun that way too :P
Plus, he was probably using some of that slide to help point the car through the corner as well.
I don't think so. No matter what they say to the press, the drivers would probably feel that the sim is very different than real life. It is used to learn the circuit, not learn how to drive an F1 car. I believe the real car would be much more twitchy and difficult to catch. Rosberg probably uses the sim like you and I would play an arcade racing game. (within reason, it's obviously a complex piece of software, but that it's driving physics fidelity is 1:1 with real life? I don't think so.
I think the back end slid there more because of the weight transfer then because of too much throttle. The throttle did contribute to it though. Basically the car wouldn't normally lose grip under that much acceleration but the fact that he turns right then left throws the cars weight to one side. I tried the sim that people say this is based on, it's pretty easy to catch oversteer there as long as you release the throttle, the steering wheel pretty much countersteers on its own.

Man I wish such simulator would come out to the xbox, ps3 or the pc. Todays games suck! they all have the arcade touch to it that just make them all so boring.
r1swedie, looks you you have been playing wrong games then. Forget Gran Turismos and Need for Speeds and get some proper PC sims, like those listed above this post.
he actually crosses the line @ 0:15 and again at 1:58, so a predicted laptime i guess between 1m40 and 1m45....it looks like a pretty long lap indeed.
hahah they play rfactor :)

yeah ok it looks like Nico with a dark helmet from behind in a dimly lit room lol ? who the fuck ?? .
anyway, cool simulator and i think Nico is underated as a driver, if he had a better car you would see many more clips of him he is very good.

Oh and stop promoting your fav. sim and stomping every other one to the ground. its kind of ridiculus, there are loads of good sims on the market.
Something else, the plattform is NOT what makes a sim realistic, its the product itsself ;-)
