Three things have happened that replaced these awesome tunes and their complementary vocals.
1 The Auto-tuner which has helped mask the horrid singing skills of so many rappers and singers
2 Rappers stole artists music and sampled them, simply killing off big names & their hard work, and then selling them to masses that ate up the new fads
3 Cheaper to use digital music components and synthesizers in music helped to make some decent tunes but no substance
@SparkPlugnl hahaha, That's true since this is a solo, I actually did notice that XD When they entirely use low budget digital music exclusively in an entire album is when one should cringe I think. Me saying that is actually kinda silly on my part, I do love Midi and synthetic music, but an entire album of rap and synth? Hell no!
I miss these days... Classy instrumental music with real melody... I used to own a BC Rich STIII... I always wanted a cool one (Gunslinger?) like Tony... I miss the look as well, everything.
@MajorPwnage96 It's been a while, as I pretty much only play strats now... but I used to have an STIII, and do own an old 80's NJ series Bich and an American Gunslinger. I'm sure the Warlock is good too, you just need to play all the guitars at all price points and see what sounds best for you and has the most naturally playable feel. Some guitars will be easier for you to play than others, it is just a personal preference thing. Cheers!
@striker78900 And there you have it. A major reason Tony MacAlpine is one of the most underrated instrumental rock guitarists of all time. What fucking difference does his ethnic background make?
@OnedetachedonE well said, i remember hearing Edge of Insanity at a music store and laughed thinking it this isnt real. Tony is educated and one of the top musicians ever. who cares about color, music brings us together
Indeed. Tony is a musician's musician. He is certainly not in the mainstream, but I'm willing to bet, he is WELL known among other rock guitarists.
I saw Tony on That Metal Show a few months ago. John Sykes (Whitesnake/Blue Murder) was one of the guests. I could tell he was blown away by Tony's interludes.

watching Tony play this makes it TOO easy to tell which parts of the album solo are played by George Lynch...Toony didn't quite nail it...LOL...no problem, I'm sure the opposite could be said if George played a live cover of this song.

I just saw tony on an episode of "that metal show" on VH1. What amazes me is how he can make his guitar work look so effortless. I mean, seriously, when you watch him on some of his lessons, he really makes it look like any idiot can pick up a guitar and just shred it! Mad props.

@eyeofset ...who ever says that? I think Hendrix crushed that stereotype awhile back. You gotta watch out for the Asians now, mostly. The Brazilians too. They make everyone else look like crap.
@Trahira517 Way before Hendrix there was Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, T Bone Walker, need I go on? The 60's had hendrix, the 80's had Tony MacAlpine, and the 21st century has Tosin Abasi. Black people can be great guitarists, no question. And as for Asians and Brazilians, check out Kotaro Oshio and Kiko Loureiro, respectively.
@Trahira517 Compared to the average guitarist he is pretty good obviously. But when you've been watching ridiculous musical masters for years he won't seem that good anymore. Get back to me when you find some really good guitarists.
@Trahira517 I just watched some Kiko to make sure we're on the same page. By far his best quality seems to be his technical ability as his melodies sounded very average. There are way too many guitarists who's technical ability makes his look like a joke.
@Easleytee What a coincidence. I was listening to chimp spanner, and thought " I want to check out this Tony MacAlpine guy ive heard so much about". Thats pretty crazy haha
Yeah, I had the Maximum Security album (guess I still do!), and another one of his records. Also, I think he played keyboards on one of Vinny Moore's albums. I read somebody's comment that he's had a hard time. I can believe that. It's like Chet Atkins said: "Nobody wants you when you just play guitar".

@LisaD472 Well said, the thing is maybe he was not commercial enough? For instance Vai went down the commercial road playing for Roth,Coverdale and Malmsteen with JLT,i just dont think Mcalpine could live with just playing rock or pop stuff.Maybe he had offers to join big rock bands but turned them down?Hold on 2:42 is were the fireworks really start.lol.Anyway is is a super player.

What's hair have to do with anything? He's truly gifted with melodies that touch the hearts of those lucky enough to have heard him play. It's about the music guys. Tony is one of the most unselfish players of our time and he has brought so much to the Shred scene that he deserves our respect.
@patriotpizzaman i couldn't agree more. tony is one of the truly underappreciated guitar players of all time. he never recieved the notoriety that he deserved for his incredible talent. i'm a fan of yngwie, vai, gilbert, and the many shredders from the 80's. tony managed to mix speed and technical virtuosity with beautiful melodies. most of the more popular players couldn't do it as well as he. his playing never gets boring.
@Dazzler59 mullet is short top and sides long in back. that is a mullet. you may like the guy (i like the song it's quite nice, good musician) doesn't change the fact he's pimping a mullet as were alot of ppl with little taste in hairstyles during this time.
@Fektthis yea thats what i said , a mullet is long at back and short top/sides and no hes not "pimping" one thats just long hair , and good musician? come on son hes outstanding
@xTheFormlessOneIGF1 C'mon man grow up a little bit. this music isn't made for geniuses either. I don't hear anything special in there. I know the man, his piano playing skills, the fact that he played with Vai for a while ; but there's no extasy for my ears in there... Compared to Becker this is bullshit...
@skolnick14...good point those names you mentioned are not only better than us 'normal guys but also leagues ahead of popular guys like Santana Clapton Knoffler BB King SRV etc....who get all the guitar acclaim..btw George Bellas and Jeff loomis are the two top guns of today on MY opinion

What's hair have to do with anything? He's truly gifted with melodies that touch the hearts of those lucky enough to have heard him play. It's about the music guys. Tony is one of the most unselfish players of our time and he has brought so much to the Shred scene that he deserves our respect.

@patriotpizzaman i couldn't agree more. tony is one of the truly underappreciated guitar players of all time. he never recieved the notoriety that he deserved for his incredible talent. i'm a fan of yngwie, vai, gilbert, and the many shredders from the 80's. tony managed to mix speed and technical virtuosity with beautiful melodies. most of the more popular players couldn't do it as well as he. his playing never gets boring.

mugable 11 months ago
@mugable thats not a mullet , a mullet is a german hairstyle where the back is long and the sides shaved
Dazzler59 10 months ago
@Dazzler59 mullet is short top and sides long in back. that is a mullet. you may like the guy (i like the song it's quite nice, good musician) doesn't change the fact he's pimping a mullet as were alot of ppl with little taste in hairstyles during this time.
Fektthis 10 months ago
@Fektthis yea thats what i said , a mullet is long at back and short top/sides and no hes not "pimping" one thats just long hair , and good musician? come on son hes outstanding

@xTheFormlessOneIGF1 C'mon man grow up a little bit. this music isn't made for geniuses either. I don't hear anything special in there. I know the man, his piano playing skills, the fact that he played with Vai for a while ; but there's no extasy for my ears in there... Compared to Becker this is bullshit...
