  • THAT'S NICE!

  • his later albums weren't as big though...

  • this is when guitar playing shined.....what has happened?????

  • @notraps

Three things have happened that replaced these awesome tunes and their complementary vocals.

1 The Auto-tuner which has helped mask the horrid singing skills of so many rappers and singers

2 Rappers stole artists music and sampled them, simply killing off big names & their hard work, and then selling them to masses that ate up the new fads

3 Cheaper to use digital music components and synthesizers in music helped to make some decent tunes but no substance

    Mainstream = Stagnation

  • @vguyver2

Funny that you mention digital stuff, the drums sound very drumcomputery and I wouldn't be surpised if those are samples. ;)

  • @SparkPlugnl hahaha, That's true since this is a solo, I actually did notice that XD When they entirely use low budget digital music exclusively in an entire album is when one should cringe I think. Me saying that is actually kinda silly on my part, I do love Midi and synthetic music, but an entire album of rap and synth? Hell no!

  • nice haircut. Too bad it's gone now :(

  • I used to love this song back when I was going through my shred guitar phase

  • @MrUsedBooks Used to?

  • @UnknownSect333 I kind of got bored of it because I used to listen to it so much. I still listen to it every once in a while.

  • Tony is definitely one of my favs... man he rocks!!!

  • I miss these days... Classy instrumental music with real melody... I used to own a BC Rich STIII... I always wanted a cool one (Gunslinger?) like Tony... I miss the look as well, everything.

  • @dzzzt69 I'm getting a B.C. Rich Warlock soon.... Have you played that one by chance?

  • @MajorPwnage96 It's been a while, as I pretty much only play strats now... but I used to have an STIII, and do own an old 80's NJ series Bich and an American Gunslinger. I'm sure the Warlock is good too, you just need to play all the guitars at all price points and see what sounds best for you and has the most naturally playable feel. Some guitars will be easier for you to play than others, it is just a personal preference thing. Cheers!

  • @dzzzt69 Thanks for the input! I'll have to put that into mind.

  • is he full nigga or just a half ?

  • @striker78900 And there you have it. A major reason Tony MacAlpine is one of the most underrated instrumental rock guitarists of all time. What fucking difference does his ethnic background make?

    Fucking retard...

  • @OnedetachedonE well said, i remember hearing Edge of Insanity at a music store and laughed thinking it this isnt real. Tony is educated and one of the top musicians ever. who cares about color, music brings us together

  • @ftwfckyea

Indeed. Tony is a musician's musician. He is certainly not in the mainstream, but I'm willing to bet, he is WELL known among other rock guitarists.

I saw Tony on That Metal Show a few months ago. John Sykes (Whitesnake/Blue Murder) was one of the guests. I could tell he was blown away by Tony's interludes.

The guy is simply awesome. His feeling, choice of notes, technical proficiency and blazing speed make him simply breathtaking to listen to. Love his music!!

  • @ftwfckyea Have him friended on Facebook, he's an incredibly nice guy, too!

  • @ZiddersRooFurry cool. will do

  • @striker78900 good question hahaha

  • watching Tony play this makes it TOO easy to tell which parts of the album solo are played by George Lynch...Toony didn't quite nail it...LOL...no problem, I'm sure the opposite could be said if George played a live cover of this song.

  • @paulpaid playing songs exactly the same on different occasions belongs to classical music and to the sad play-backing present day r&b singers. On the field of modern guitar improvisation and variety is grown.

  • @stewnaaitsabes

Regardless of which style of music, there's nothing Wrong with Playing it exactly as recorded IF that,s what thee Artist wants to do but let's be real....RE: This video, It's not about playing it EXACTLY the same . What I'm saying is Tony did not cover George's parts in any accurate way. Who can Really replicate George Lynch.?? Who can really replicate Tony??

  • great riff ... full of melody

  • another shredding fool

  • @BetterTasteThanU And you ??????

  • increible!!! que feeling csm!!!!!!!

  • @BenitOssj I'm not sure what you said...but it sounded pretty positive!

Proof that music, like math, is one of the universal languages!

  • pode crer

  • Music is the freedom of the soul's emotions to convey beauty, & to glorify GOD'S Love .

  • Jeez...anyone talking shit about this performance...get back on the medication and get over it. Whether it's your style or not it's amazing anyway.

  • Tony was the most melodic of the "shredders". This is a great tune, not just a vehicle to show off chops.

  • @krelbar than you obviously haven't heard of jason becker and shawn lane.

  • THE FCKING TONE IS AMAZING!!!!!!!

  • Really like his style. First saw him playing with Vai on G3 videos.

  • I remember buying Maximum Security on cassette and playing it so much I had to buy a second copy because I had worn it out.

  • it does remind me of jason becker wow

  • Jason Beckers double....

  • tony mc alpine is one of the best keyboard player, he played the key boards for vinnie moore on the album "minds eye"

  • i think my favorite part is 2:26, when the tracking messes up and reminds me i'm watching VHS. haha gotta love dated eighties tech! just the same TMac is a beast...

  • de que album es esa cancion

  • @MrScream291 Maximum Security. No me digas gracias. Lo mereciste.

  • @Evanschamp gracias de todos modos

  • thxs for the great vid......he`s one of my favorite guitar player`s.....

  • those guitar hero wankers won't be able to play this even on the video game!

  • That melody.... That melody(echo)

  • truly underated

  • OMG!!! this melody it's beautiful!!!

  • I just saw tony on an episode of "that metal show" on VH1. What amazes me is how he can make his guitar work look so effortless. I mean, seriously, when you watch him on some of his lessons, he really makes it look like any idiot can pick up a guitar and just shred it! Mad props.

  • Beautiful song, great playing. Thanks That Metal Show for showcasing this guy

  • My new guitar hero

  • I'm sad to say that I've never even heard of this guy. Thank God for Youtube.

  • @iamjustme0055 Jesus dude get his first couple of cd's. Essential shit for any guitarist.

  • sadly this guy does not get the recognition he deserves

i bet is because he is black sad but true

  • yo pensaba qe era una bandade hardrockmelodico....pero me doy con esta grata sorpresa ademas

  • Whats a good song to learn from tony on a SIX string electric?

  • he's finally on the metal archives

  • Omg that hair. Wow!

  • Go to stallion1262 and listen to Paul lane from captured who is a big fan of Tony play tears of sahara and others awesome !!!

  • Great song.

  • 240p, we meet again.

  • @RiddickTheKiller 240p comment, we meet again.

  • @22FretsIsNotEnough 240p comment comment, we meet, finally!

  • @RiddickTheKiller Well played.

  • @RiddickTheKiller lol your comment is an insult to 240p...

  • I'm never sure why there is all this competition, its not like sport, who is better than whoever. If they play music I like then I like them, if they don't they don't, on a pure technique level someone may be worse, but if they play music that i like more than someone with better technique/style, who really gives a shit? I know I don't. Music is emotion, not a competition. I didn't get that attitude to music when I was younger and I understand it even less now. This song is quite beautiful. :)

  • @atnighthawk Very well put. I think this is lovely playing. All this stuff played as fast as possible to show off so called guitar skill looses its musical quality. This is without doubt the real deal, music at its best.

  • @spartanworria sir yes sir :) too many idiot guitar palyers speed race thru the fret just for the sake of being fast. Music is not a RACE lol

  • @atnighthawk I couldnt agree with you more! Im so sick of people putting artist down because of the way the play. This song is beautiful!

  • @atnighthawk excellent, excellent post!

  • Tony is one of my favorite guitar player period.

    He's awsome!

  • better than joe stratini?

  • @TDLakaDavidLover satriani jesus christ....

  • @TDLakaDavidLover youre a retard.

  • I wonder what kind've pickups he's playing in this... lol

  • This is beautiful music at its best by a Black rock guirarist. This is a kick in the ass to all those who say Black people can't play rock guitar.

  • @eyeofset ...who ever says that? I think Hendrix crushed that stereotype awhile back. You gotta watch out for the Asians now, mostly. The Brazilians too. They make everyone else look like crap.

  • @Trahira517 Way before Hendrix there was Robert Johnson, Chuck Berry, T Bone Walker, need I go on? The 60's had hendrix, the 80's had Tony MacAlpine, and the 21st century has Tosin Abasi. Black people can be great guitarists, no question. And as for Asians and Brazilians, check out Kotaro Oshio and Kiko Loureiro, respectively.

  • @djc741 t bon was so freaking awsome!

and tosin, holy fuck, one of the mot inspiring guitarists of all time in my opinion!

  • @xDimebladex yeah totally! got a used t bone cd for $2, 11 songs. whaddup. Yeah tosin is just unbelievable

  • @Trahira517 Dude name the asians and brazilians that are so good please. Most of them are pretty adept but very good is not what I would call them.

  • @Trahira517 Well the ones I've heard. Kiko loureiro seems ok and takayoshi ohmura is technically ridiculous.

  • @andrewkeen24 I was half kidding...anyone can be great at guitar. And if you think that Kiko Loureiro is just "ok" then I cannot help you.

  • @Trahira517 Compared to the average guitarist he is pretty good obviously. But when you've been watching ridiculous musical masters for years he won't seem that good anymore. Get back to me when you find some really good guitarists.

  • @Trahira517 I just watched some Kiko to make sure we're on the same page. By far his best quality seems to be his technical ability as his melodies sounded very average. There are way too many guitarists who's technical ability makes his look like a joke.

  • @eyeofset If you think about what your saying it sounds kinda racist dude.... We are all human beings :/

  • Music made in heaven.

  • Comment removed

  • Check-out Chimp Spanner...fabulous guitar player. His "At the Dream's Edge" is a finely crafted guitar opus.

  • @Easleytee What a coincidence. I was listening to chimp spanner, and thought " I want to check out this Tony MacAlpine guy ive heard so much about". Thats pretty crazy haha

  • I remember the edge of insanity record , killer !!!

  • 47 people drowned in the tears of sahara

  • George Lynch guest starred on the solo.

  • T-Mac and Vinnie Moore both put Vai to shame. case closed.

  • @buddahmaster very true. vai is the celine dion of guitar.

  • @buddahmaster totally agree!! my 2 favorites guitarrist ever...well Jason Beckert is great too

  • NEVER say black people can't play heavy guitar... lol

  • @1234gnrslash Tosin Abasi.

  • Love Tony. he reminds me a lot of Becker in his style, and the types of notes he uses.

  • @FretsOfDeath666 thought that too

  • witch pixel is playing the guitar? jk

  • @Switchedpro ahahahaha .no shit ..did they shoot this vid ..with the first cell phone camera that come out !

  • @Switchedpro

    witch?

    WHICH

  • @Switchedpro It's actually a wizard pixel.

  • @Switchedpro lol

  • @Switchedpro it´s not about whatching just listen

  • Yeah, I had the Maximum Security album (guess I still do!), and another one of his records. Also, I think he played keyboards on one of Vinny Moore's albums. I read somebody's comment that he's had a hard time. I can believe that. It's like Chet Atkins said: "Nobody wants you when you just play guitar".

  • Amazing Instrumental for all time !!!! \m/ Tony King \m/

  • whenever people dis bc rich this is always the first video i point them too

  • @bigfatoilyguy I use a BC Rich, and it works very well!

  • my dad use to rock me to sleep to tis song wen i was a baby =D

  • @menwhostareatducks1 you are one lucky guy

  • @menwhostareatducks1 omg realy cos so did my dad :)

  • @menwhostareatducks1 when i was a baby i went to sleep to some kenny g

  • @menwhostareatducks1 mine too actually!! :)

  • @menwhostareatducks1 lucky bastard

  • @menwhostareatducks1 ur dad had good taste

  • @menwhostareatducks1 Cool dad... I play lotus feet to my baby on the ipod.

  • I really like Tony MacAlpine.. I Had his album Maximum Security as a kid... Always thought he didn't get enough air-time. But then the competition was pretty fierce back then so not really surprising.

His personal story is inspiring and I'm Glad he made it into this tough profession. Best of Luck to him.

  • @LisaD472 Well said, the thing is maybe he was not commercial enough? For instance Vai went down the commercial road playing for Roth,Coverdale and Malmsteen with JLT,i just dont think Mcalpine could live with just playing rock or pop stuff.Maybe he had offers to join big rock bands but turned them down?Hold on 2:42 is were the fireworks really start.lol.Anyway is is a super player.

  • He's looks like Greg Howe ahahaah xD

  • Beautiful song, beautiful playing, beautiful tone.

  • This is great !

  • Like it love it or if you don't just go away. I true musician appreciates most all music. Music is as individual has the individual. Much like many many different personality's''' means many different kinds of music which can also greatly influence many. Point is don't trash on someones style'''' now to the good stuff... Tony is freaking awesome!!

  • Ooooh, that feeeling, way back i was astounded.....today.....still the same.....tingles the motion-nerve soo much.......looove, loooove it, man!!!

  • put the like button for tony !!!!

  • Killer Jammage!

  • More tasteful than most shredding.

  • What's hair have to do with anything? He's truly gifted with melodies that touch the hearts of those lucky enough to have heard him play. It's about the music guys. Tony is one of the most unselfish players of our time and he has brought so much to the Shred scene that he deserves our respect.

  • @patriotpizzaman i couldn't agree more. tony is one of the truly underappreciated guitar players of all time. he never recieved the notoriety that he deserved for his incredible talent. i'm a fan of yngwie, vai, gilbert, and the many shredders from the 80's. tony managed to mix speed and technical virtuosity with beautiful melodies. most of the more popular players couldn't do it as well as he. his playing never gets boring.

  • macalpine songs can touch the soul!!!

  • Very nice, Tony!

  • judging by the hair, i'd say late 80s, early 90s.

    tony macalpine with a mullet.

    never forget.

  • @mugable thats not a mullet , a mullet is a german hairstyle where the back is long and the sides shaved

  • @Dazzler59 mullet is short top and sides long in back. that is a mullet. you may like the guy (i like the song it's quite nice, good musician) doesn't change the fact he's pimping a mullet as were alot of ppl with little taste in hairstyles during this time.

  • @Fektthis yea thats what i said , a mullet is long at back and short top/sides and no hes not "pimping" one thats just long hair , and good musician? come on son hes outstanding

  • @MiikaT96

    why why?

  • Lets not forget: Gilmour, Santana, Vaughan, Marino, Beck, Healey, Wylde, Rabin, Schenker, Guy, Frampton, Lifeson, Banamasa, Edge, but to name a few.

  • @nereus1357 forgeting Dick fuckin' Dale.

  • the soul is there at least slow or fast makes no difference..its the load that counts

  • fantastic musician and player

  • hes like michael jackson in guitar

  • @ugie88 why?

  • tony sos un groso de enserio con todas las letars¡¡¡¡¡

  • That's how I want it, baby! Gimme your huge Gb#13!!!

  • what kind of pickups?

  • 0:00 to 4:01 is epic... I hate the 4:02 ! ^^

  • 2:44 to 3:05 is so epic!!!

  • he's not only can play guitar but also can play keyboard!! check out my channel!!

  • Pink Floyd is a totally different vibe I love them both!

  • This song Blows my Mind!!!

  • the intro is so fucking dope

  • When B.C Rich actually made good guitars.

  • this is just a melodic assault!

  • 43 people are stupid.

  • @xTheFormlessOneIGF1 :::: 46 at tihis time...

  • @xTheFormlessOneIGF1 C'mon man grow up a little bit. this music isn't made for geniuses either. I don't hear anything special in there. I know the man, his piano playing skills, the fact that he played with Vai for a while ; but there's no extasy for my ears in there... Compared to Becker this is bullshit...

  • springfield mass says well done son , jeff schuman and tony marvici say hi , keep rockin tony!!!!!

  • Just amazing, the thinking of him to come out with the title of the song itself - TEARS OF SAHARA.

  • tony grande tony la guitarra de tony traspasa el espiritu que viva el metal

  • @skolnick14...good point those names you mentioned are not only better than us 'normal guys but also leagues ahead of popular guys like Santana Clapton Knoffler BB King SRV etc....who get all the guitar acclaim..btw George Bellas and Jeff loomis are the two top guns of today on MY opinion

  • Let's all just agree that Tony,Vai,SAtriani,Malmsteen,Gilbert,Howe,Govan, and many others are better guitaris
