  • @VonManavis

"Hold your fire, there's no lifeforms aboard." "Hold your fire? What, are we paying by the laser now?" "You don't do the budget Terry, I do!"

  • Lol this is rediculous the rebellion were libertarians? If anything the empire enabled international capitalists to colonise outlying systems and 3rd world planets. Ever heard of COMPNOR in extended universe? haha good thing this was cut from the movies, it instantly makes the entire trilogy crap if that line was in there.

  • Biggs was the Bruce Campbell of the Star Wars Universe! :)

  • Oo-tee-nee!!!

  • So an Imperial fleet sub officer saved the Galaxy. Damn you Lucas!

  • Sly anti-communist message in a 1970s film haha

  • wow the cut from uncle Owens House to where R2D2 is rolling alone through the canyon really shows the difference between Tunisia and California.

  • yeah i'm glad they edited this out.

  • Bigg's death would have been more meaningful had he been in the earlier scenes.

  • I wish they'd have turned down the music a bit; not that I don't like it (it's gorgeous), but it almost drowns out the dialogue completely.

  • These are nice scenes. The problem is you don't need Biggs and Han in the same movie. There's only room for one "older, wiser, more worldly brother" type in the film. Besides George mentioned that he never really wanted to do these scenes anyway as he really wanted the first part to be about the droids.

  • Luke & Biggs:

A bromance Made In Mos Eisley

    :p

  • There are other cutted scenes in which Luke observe fight in the sky. Exist only footage...

  • fantastic stuff ... now i don't have to waste $90 on the bullshit Blu-ray set , Lucas isn't getting another dime from me !!!! thanks for posting =D

  • Wow, what a great scene though. Really provides so much more depth to the early part of the story. Why did they cut it?

  • Biggs gets killed off because he really had no significance once these scenes were deleted. He should have survived Episode 4, but then killed in 5 to help promote a darker second act.

  • The Briggs/Luke relationship should definitely been maintained in the series. It added a dimension to Luke's character and Briggs was pretty cool too!

  • @Robikus who in the fucking world is fucking Briggs? at least know who/what you are talking about before you open your mouth! LOL BRIGGS!>?!? ps-it's Biggs

  • @makethemyth I stand corrected, and corrected by someone who is probably 100 times geekier than I. I wish I could post a link to give you your just deserts but I'll have to send that in message.

  • @Robikus i have SW tattoos guy, i am immortal i have inside me blood of kings. i have no rival, no man can be my equal. watch ancient aliens and you will learn some. now go

  • @makethemyth You know why there were no gay immortals? Because it would bring an entirely new meaning to, "In the end, there can be only one."

  • @Robikus ya im sure most could fit 2 or 3 in the end

  • @Robikus for real, especially when Luke mentioned Biggs twice, once while complaining about not being able to leave the farm, and second during the battle with the first death star "blasted biggs where are you!" as a kid I was like, who the hell is biggs! then the later re-release of new hope we got short glimpse of bigs before the battle with the death star.

  • @darkservantofheaven Maybe Luke and Biggs had a be more than the average friendship going on? I'm sure there's fan fiction about that. :)

  • @ShadeToSun damn rule 34

  • @darkservantofheaven As if the R2D2 C3P0 thing wasn't racy enough.

  • @Robikus Biggs, not Briggs, no "r" in his name

  • Add these lost scenes for Episodes IV-VI on the Blu rays and I'm sold.

  • It's good the clip didn't make it into the original release, but we've all seen the movie by now. So, Lucas needs to restore it and add it back to the film. There are people who say that it messes with the pacing of the beginning, but who cares. This scene ties directly into the reunion of Luke and Biggs before the Death Star battle and you shouldn't have one scene without the other. It makes Bigg's death that much more important.

  • IDK y lucas films cant release the deleted scenes and the behind the scenes footage.

  • @vader5445 because there to horny to

  • @vader5445 They are releasing it. On the blu-rays. Haven't seen the trailer yet?

  • I admit this scene was cut for good reason, simply because it didn't quite fit in with the narrative. But it is entertaining, tells us more about Luke's life on Tatooine, and gives us some idea of how the Empire is affecting the rest of the galaxy.

  • @LukeAlto2007 I'm also reminded of a great line from the NPR radio adaption of this scene from the 80's, "A Wind to Shake the Stars":

Luke: Looks like there's a wind picking up.

Biggs: Wind's picking up all over the galaxy, Luke. Even Tatooine will feel it, sooner or later.

  • Why didn't they restore this scene when they put the scene at the end of the film back where Luke meets up with Biggs again before the attack on the death star. Without this scene, that restored scene at the end has no resonance. Why George? Why?

  • I just have one crituque: the music. The music for the second deleted scene drowns out the whispers. I think the volume for the music there should be reduced.

  • Do you notice around 0:49-0:51, when Biggs places his hands on the back of Skywalker's head, Luke brushes the hands down immediately? Friendly gesture of "Don't touch me like that"

  • The scene with biggs and luke's friends was how the book began

  • This first scene makes it to the Marvel Comics in 77/78.

  • Was it just me or did the scenes between "Luke" and "Biggs" to be a bit uhmm how can I say this...GAY!! I mean holy crap Lucas should of called it "Star Wars: Brokeback Jedi's".

  • @ASpaceBear Oh fuck off! I know all things gay appeal to a troll like you but lay off a classic iconic film like Star Wars.

  • @sjdrifter72 Oh sweetie you should know "I am GAY" so really I know gay when I see it! Its OK that you think I'm a troll cause least "This" Troll can get more Pussy than you can and I'M GAY! So really thats says alot about you...but I guess once you move out of your Mama's House and get some Pussy (Or Dick) you wont be so anal about a movie.

    Best of luck to you!!

  • "You'll always be the best friend I ever have...until Han Solo shows up, and Says 'Noooooooo!' "

  • good thing they deleted this scene. People would've surely left the theaters the first 5 minutes.

  • I've always knew this scene existed but never got a chance to see it, the circle is now completed...

  • Biggs and Luke are HONEYPIE!

  • They should add the deleted scenes in a special edition DVD.

  • Whos the hot babe at 01:14

  • @starguard That is Koo Stark, an American actress known primarily for one semi-erotic film the same year Star Wars was made, and later for dating Prince Andrew. She also was in an episode of Red Dwarf in the late 80s.

  • @starguard Thank you SO much for that :Double thumbsup: :-)

  • I dont think that was blue milk they were drinking.

  • Another girl in the galaxy?!

  • which version of episode 4 did u use like 97 04

  • Luke as an imperial. That would be interesting...

  • @Kubinda12345 You can say that again.

  • The reunion before the battle of Yavin would've made more sense if they originally showed the first scene with Biggs...

  • Good one mate, I like how you blended it all together. With the Blu-Ray release they should put back all these scenes, not likely to happen I know but still..... it would be nice.

  • You are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor !

Makes the nerd in me feel happy..

  • I agree, Biggs could've been a crucial character for the rest of Star Wars to come; he would've flown at Hoth, led at the space battle at Endor, co-command Rogue Squadron alongside Wedge. What a waste...

Thankfully in the EU there's Gavin, Biggs' cousin.

  • Even though this is my favorite movie of all time, I have never liked the abrupt. late introduction we get of Luke when he speaks to his Aunt at the homestead right before the droid auction. You could almost tell something was missing, even back in 1977 when very few people knew of the missing scenes. I absolutely love the early scenes with Biggs and the earliest scene of Luke with Treadwell, as they introduce us to Luke much earlier in the film.

  • Starwars is indeed an achievement of sound edditing, listen to the motors in c3po and specially in r2d2, excelent!

  • @Biel7318 i've also thought about that since the first time i saw it... there's so much detail in the sound.

  • I understand your trying to make this seamless but cant hear the new dialogue

  • Biggs is like Luke's version of Lando.

  • George, why? WHY?????

  • I really never realised wehat a faggot luke was

  • Anchorhead is a city you can go to in Knight of the Old Republic and Star Wars Galaxies fun fact for ya

  • there is/are huge amounts of the book which wasnt filmed infact 1-2 chapters in the beggining of the book are all set at anchorhead. but george put the charactors back at the end of the movie. infact i first saw the film way back in the 70's and thought biggs must a buddy of his. its references etc.

but thnakfully for us now directors get there directors cut on dvd's like the brillient lord of the rings movies which are superurb.

  • At about 6:40, he mentions his friend Dak. Interesting... the same Dak who ended up getting creamed on the battle of Hoth?

  • @truenorth1968 Dak. is the one from the book. (And I think there is a comic)

  • yeah, music is too loud and I can't hear the rebellion conversation between Luke and Biggs

  • These scenes should've been included in the movie. There are a couple others from the NPR program that should also be included.

  • @RK831 it was actually originally return then revenge, but changed it back to return because jedis dont want revenge

  • That guy is really taking liberties with lord Vader he's lucky he doesn't put the force choke hold death grip on him .

  • @opencurtin maybe that's why he doesn't kill him. He's not making a mistake, mearly stating fact. Vader, while ruthless, isn't a psychopath. He doesn't just go around choking people with his mind haha. He made a point and Vader, I believe, respected it.

  • I remember these scenes from reading the book. it's cool to actually see them, thanks for posting this!

  • I dont understand why they took this out. It shows the relationship between Luke and Biggs.

  • I dont get why they didn't put this one back in rather than that one with Han meeting Jubba and trying to sweetalk himself out of being hunted. Theres always the next special ed lol

  • i always wondered who were his friends.. like that couple.. she;s the only other female in the whole movie.. (aside from the tonnika sisters at mos eisley)

  • I only came to check this, because my 5 year old daughter brought home an original Star Wars Storybook (published in 1978) that had added dialogue and content in it. I was so surprised to see it that I decided, perhaps, Youtube would have some more info. Thanks for uploading!

  • love the banana republic pith hat

  • BLAST IT BIGS WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!

  • @Aaronp01

    Tosche, not toshi

  • at 8:10 i thought biggs was going to take off and just fly away

  • super cape hes got

  • The second part of the Biggs scene is the most intelligent exchange in the entire trilogy. Really brilliant scene can't believe they cut it.

  • how come these deleted scense were never put on any of the dvd's?

  • Luke and Biggs seemed abit to close to me.

  • That moment really brought a lot of closure and i almost broke out in tears when i seen that. To go from serving the Empire to revealing his true self in the end. That was VERY shocking.

  • Darth Vader was a VERY intense demanding dude.

  • @nutritionjuice23 Yeah, I've always been a Star Wars fan. When Vader revealed to Luke that he was his father, that was one of the most shocking movie moments in history.

  • @sgauden I was a big-time Star Wars fan, too. George Lucas at the time of the filming of A New Hope originally intended Vader and Anakin to be two separate guys so he could avevnge his father in a later episode, but later changed his mind, but the "he betrayed and murdered your father" had already been shot, edited and released. Uh-oh! So Obi-wan had to play it off in Return (originally Revenge) of the Jedi.

  • 5:00 Krayt Dragon

    hahaha

  • This biggs guy should have stayed with star wars.

  • This ten minutes was better than the prequels in their entirety. And these are deleted scenes!

  • 1:18 that brunnette chic is hot. is that Luke Skywalker's ex-girlfriend by the way she was acting towards him?

  • This edit is not quite right. When it begins, the star destroyer has already taken the blockade runner into its hole, but later at anchorhead, both Luke and Biggs say they can see two ships, where there should only be one visible. Other than that, I hope George does restore these clips some day and includem them as an extra on DVD.

  • @howen77 These scenes happen in the book, which was released in 1976, before the movie, so it is in the correct order.

  • @Cesardv8camaro When the escape pod launches, 3po makes a comment about the damage does not appear to bad from the outside, but he does not realise at the time that he is looking at the bottom of the Star Destroyer, not the Blockade runner. Leia's ship has already been taken into the hole of the Star Destroyer, so how could Luke and Biggs see two ships from Anchorhead when their scene takes place several minutes later?

  • I wish they had slipped these scenes into the end of Episode 3, as a way to introduce Luke into the series. I don't believe they were damaged beyond repair, given what digital technology allows filmmakers to do now. Also, I heard these scenes were originally included in drive-in movie prints of SW only, but I haven't seen any proof of that. Given the way they keep releasing these films, its still possible they could officially be restored. As a DVD extra, perhaps.

  • Music was too fuckin loud you cock, are you deaf?

  • Putting all together like this makes it very clear that the scenes don't work. Thank God they were cut, great as they are to see on their own.

  • NATIONALIZING COMMERCE IN THE CENTRAL SYSTEMS!?!?!?!?

  • @cwbellor Shouldn't that be "planetize?" How do nations exist in a galaxy of different planets? lol

  • @aussieyimon the same way they do everywhere, in name

  • The anchor head scenes are on the Radio broadcast with Cammie (played by koo Stark on this clip), Fixer (her boyfriend) Deak , & Windy as well as the anchor head scenes it also has a Scene how Leia goes on a mission to get the stolen data tapes - after a meal with Lord Tion and her first encounter with Darth Vader..

It was approved by Lucasfilm so its gotta be cushty!!!

  • Why Biggs? They could have killed off anoother character. Biggs shhould have been with us through episode 6. He was great.

  • @Sarasdad91 Was he even that prominent in A New Hope? He basically had a few minutes before and during the attack on the Death Star and that was pretty much it, wasn't it?

But I agree, having this footage and having him in more movies would have been way better.

  • @aussieyimon

Hey look at Wedge. He had less than 10 lines in the A New Hope, and look at him in Empire and Return.

  • @Sarasdad91 In the paperback edition, luke had trouble seeing through his visor because he was tearing up when biggs died. Too bad it wasn't emphasized in the movie.

  • While those scenes are interesting, it's shoving too much at the viewer all too soon. It's also not the best way to introduce Luke's character or the stakes at risk. The way the actual film carries is an excellent pace.

These scenes show exactly what could have made Star Wars peel over like the prequels did with shoving too much shit at people without character development or plot development. Way too much.

  • @banglefaar you understimate the power of this scenes

  • Classic heavy-handed George Lucas writing. Cutting these scenes was what gave the original film such a sense of mystery. Rather than give everything to the audience on a platter, they were left to figure it out themselves. Something entirely lost in the prequels.

Cutting these scenes was the best decision ever made.

  • @cgbeauch I think the prequels do not reveal everything about the plot... what about Syfo-Dias? or the prophecy, who did it? How actually anakin was conceived? was this Darth Plagueis his father? Where does General Griveous come from?

  • This would have actually been a VERY cool scene to have in the movie!

  • @THELDSLIFE agreed, it adds some understanding of how the empire builds it's army, ie where stormtroppers and their ilk come from. Also a bit more on the sand people. I guess it was cut becuase maybe they felt it was a bit of a long scene without much action. I'm suprised though that Lucas decided not to use it in the special edition though? With the inclusion of the extra short biggs scene at the rebel base, this would have tied in perfectly? Strange

  • these scenes are interesting and well acted, but you have to think "are they necessary" as Lucas did. There are plenty of scenes later on where Luke describes his frustration with not fighting in the rebellion. Luke's introduction later on is much better, who can forget his Aunt crying "Luke, luke?". It's classic.

Also, there is something more surreal about the entire sequence after the droids land on the planet without Lukes scenes, who are these robots? What's going on?

  • I Wish Biggs didn't get killed.

  • @LTSmart - Biggs got the shaft!

  • The acting may be decent, but the scenes themselves overall are weak. The problem is that [now] when we first see Biggs in the official film, it's at the end, before the Battle of Yavin - but there's practically no context whatsoever. I'm sure Lucas knows how to insert these scenes to make them work, even it means employing voice actors to fortify the lines a little bit more.

  • they shoulda kept those scenes in

  • thanks for puting these in i first saw star wars when i was 5 and i had a book as speical type thing and had pics in that was not in the film i was not crazy the 5 year old was right lol

  • This is actually really good acting by Hamil. Also, this is one take... this actually feels genuine, something missing in the prequels.

  • Deleting these scenes was not logical. They really should have been included in the special edition just like they put the jabba scene back.

  • These deleted scenes are not in any version I've seen before. Also, the very low bass at 4:48 to 4:57 sounds like "Jaws".

  • Looking through those binocs would make me cross-eyed.

  • Biggs your cool I wana blow up like you :)

  • wow!

I never saw that deleted scene. Thank you for sharing.

  • I read the original story and the part where Biggs and Luke are talking. He makes that good point of what good will Uncle Owen's work be if the Empire takes it over? Biggs also says,"Luke, someday you'll have to learn to seperate what seems to be important from what really is important." A moral EVERYONE should live by.

  • too bad this starwars obsessed dad didn't know about this.

  • Why did you decide to use Leia's theme throughout the whole scene? Leia's not even present.

  • Interesting.

  • UTINI!

  • Nice hat Luke.

  • Great video but the music cuts in to the rebellion conversation between Luke and Biggs. Can't hear them.

  • Very impressive. Nicely edited with the additional scenes. Thanks for posting.

  • oke someone should use all the deleted scenese from the star wars movies, and do the whole movie like this! This is great. Thanks for the upload

  • it does drag on, but I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a fan edit of this from one of those link**** sites.. wink wink nudge nudge hmm.

  • Wow the music couldn't be less appropriate.

  • The Empire is Nationalizing Commerce in central systems!?!?!?! (7:30)

    You mean like healthcare???

"It won't be long before your Uncle is just a tenant, slaving for the greater glory of the Empire."

    I know the feeling!!!!!!

  • @tomhavoc

Thought exactly the same thing, lol

  • @tomhavoc It's just the opposite. The healthcare plan (1) allows *private* insurance companies to compete directly for your business (they couldn't before), and (2) ensures even more customers for those private companies. You're thinking of one part of the original bill that was *not* passed, and even it wasn't nationalization - it was merely the presence of a government insurance alternative people could choose if they wanted - no private insurance companies would have been 'nationalized'.

  • @dtstrain

    Thanks for your response dstrain!

I appreciate your thoughts, but I gotta disagree... the entire healthcare bill is a pighole from start to finish... Congress doesn't even know what they're getting us into.

It's clear that private companies are not going to be nationalized. The Gov't doesn't need to bother... destroy the industry and people will have no other choice but to switch to the "Dark Side"

In the end... everyone will have "coverage".... quality treatment, not so much....

  • Holy wampas, he just went to Toshi Station and picked up some power converters. I can't wait for the blu-ray release of the original trilogy. this starts to make up for the butchering he did of it for both special editions

  • Thanks for putting this up. I think you mixed the music too high into your restored scenes. I'm actually having trouble hearing dialog around 06:25.

  • I'm glad Lucas deleted these scenes --unnecessary to the film.

  • I think they're very cool and interesting as deleted scenes, but the movie wouldn't flow as well with them still intact. Who knows, though, Lucas may cut these back in when he releases them on blu-ray for his supposed FINAL edition next year. I hope they give us the option to watch the original trilogy exactly how it was in the theaters. Blu-ray has the technology to give us both and let us flip between them with the touch of a button.

  • Funny looking hat though

  • my friend who saw this movie back then in theatres says these scenes were in the movie,he said he saw them and was wondering why they werent in the video when it came out.

  • @jayfey77 I've heard that that's a myth, and that it's caused by people reading the book or hearing the radio drama, and thinking that they saw these scenes in the movie.

  • @jayfey77

It did appear in some releases across the US. I remember seeing this seen when I was 6. I don't think it was in every cut in every theater at the time though.

  • i think ur right cause my friend swears up and down he saw these scenees in the theatre in 77 and then he said they werent in the rerelease in 78.

  • @jayfey77

It's funny - I have a buddy who thinks I'm an idiot because I mentioned the scene to him and he responded like I was completely nuts. "No such scene," he says. You have to remember that this movie was supposed to be a flop. They very likely had a couple of slightly different versions hit different theaters at different times. I imagine that they were doing editing right up until the last minute and possibly a bit after they had already sent films out to theaters.

  • Wow - this well put together for (I presume) an amateur's efforts, given a bit of a spit-shine by THX, Skywalker sound, Industrial Light & Magic and Lucasfilm (and all their money) I could easily picture these scenes making an appearance in the Special Edition Six-film Saga boxed set (if they ever release it...) on whatever format comes out after blu-ray...

My hat goes off to you, great job for piecing it together!

  • Lucas, are you listening? One day the fans will want the Super-Hyperdive-in-Overdrive Extended Edition, the one where Luke mends his socks, and Vader simply denigrates a subordinate rather than choking him.

  • 1:28 she said "you watch it" when she should have said " NOOB"

  • they shouldve kept camie in a new hope

  • think they should have kept the one where biggs is talking with luke

  • What kind of academy was luke going to? :D

  • @Nimrod9458

    Flight Academy.

  • Bet Biggs is pissed this scene got cut. All he go was a bit part in the end.

  • I read the novel and saw photo footage in the collecters guide relating to some of these scenes, Jabba being a fella originally too lol. Nice to watch x

  • I already knew about the scenes because although they're not in the movie, they are in the novelization and the comic book adaptation of A New Hope.

  • Actually now a part of the movie makes no sense after watching these deleted scenes and makes the death of Biggs more puzzling. By the end of the movie Luke acts like the death of Biggs did not affect him at all, Luke reacts like "oh well, there goes that jack ass of Biggs who never paid me back those 30 bucks and screwed my girlfriend..." that does not make to much sense since he is so happy and hugging his new pals Leia and Han Solo, but not even shed a single tear for his best friend?

  • OMFGWTFBBQSAUCE!!! I AM NOT INSANE! I'll be 40 yrs old in July, and I actually remember seeing these scenes at the drive-in theatre. Odd, because the official LucasFilm Limited standpoint is that these scenes were NEVER included..which leaves one with the now inescapable conclusion that some drive-in theatre owner got some of the footage that hit the cutting room floor, and spliced it back in. I read a blog entry by a writer in New York who also remembers seeing these scenes at a drive-in too!

  • why the fuck is biggs wearing a cape?

  • @beefmcc Well his sense of fashion leaves something to be desired shall we say.

Brown leather pants, blue shirt, white jacket, black cape. The person in charge of his wardrobe must have been fired. Also just imagine how freaking HOT he must have been. He is wearing LEATHER pants in TUNISIA!!!.

  • They talk face to face geesh

  • This video made my night, :). I never knew these scenes existed, and it was really great to see them. I can see why they were not put into the theatrical cut, but it would have been nice if Ep. IV had been released on DVD with the cut scenes put back into the film.

  • i belive this a wonderfull scence.we ,as an audution, are introducrd to lukes gay lover biggs.i can see why lucas cut it from the film.LOL!!!

  • I should say this video has good use of editing in the deleted scenes.

  • why did they remove it?!?! It feels so incomplete without it.

  • Has anyone seen the deleted scene that Deak Starkiller is in?
