@Cisselala then you'll be amused to know that another movie, Brightstar, has its story happening at the same century and the name of the first character is Fanny too !
I want to slap Mrs. Norris so hard. She is so awful, cruel and two-faced. I hate this Henry Crawford. At least in the mini-series one, that Henry Crawford is at least appealing to look at. This one is ugly :/ Same with Blake Ritson. I think I prefer Johnny Lee Miller's Edmund better. But this Lady Bertram is wonderful and beautiful.
How could they possibly think that it was quite proper for young girls/women to show that much cleavage, especially when society was so conservative in general? They are not even at a ball or anything like that.
I haven't read the book, so I can't really get a good opinion of the movie, but this is a little off the mark for a Jane Austen. I do like Blake Ritson's portrayal though. A far cry from his role in Emma
Blake Ritson, who plays Edmund is so much better in this than in Emma. He is so annoying in Emma, but I actually think he is kinda hot in this movie. I love his eyes!
I think it's funny that these people all act very high society, and as if they emit the essence of class; but then treat Fanny with such indignity, and disrespect. If anybody has class, it is most certainly Fanny. I'm glad she doesn't lower herself to her families level, in order to put on the phacod of being minutely important
@1BubblesPPG that's for one, also it was considered imprudent . just the way "actors" were supposed to dress up, and show too much ankle, stuff like that...
@emsyduckie I think it wasn't so much that they were acting, because it wasn't uncommon for young people to put up a little play, but the play they've chosen isn't the most proper, considering that it includes professions of love, intimate touching, and Maria is engaged, after all. I guess if they'd been doing one of Shakespeare's tragedies Sir Thomas wouldn't have been so upset.
@Wilzo I completely agree :) but generally this time, acting was merely done by "urban" people which weren't from the nobility ... also, women were not supposed to act so much as well, most woman parts in operas for examples were sung by boys and everything. But sure, Shakespeare wouldn't have been so bad as this one for sure ;)
If Henry Crawford was to be transported into today's day and age, I can safely assume that he would be a date rapist. Either that, or a Jersey Shore member.
@Ub3lBlatt I think that was the style back then. Like, it was just the standard for most dresses. Like today pockets on the booty is a standard for blue jeans. I agree that both mansfield movies the fanny has been not what i got from the book, but this one is mmuuuucch closer than 1999 fanny. i am sorry but 1999 version fanny gave off a ''i'm 30 '' vibe, not a ''i am young and innocent'' vibe. also 1999 fanny had a headstrong vibe. this fanny is better for me.
I think Edmund is blatantly taking advantage of an opportunity to become closer to Mary onstage, using the excuse of common decency, although he may not be fully aware he's doing it, bless him.
And I love Fanny here, trying not to laugh at Rushworth's shot and trying to comfort her quietly, although I do feel so sorry for her when Edmund leaves with Mary and when Aunt Norris shoots her down. Bloody woman; you can see here, and in the novel, just why JK Rowling used the name for Filch's cat!
@Thearsenalkid you need to chill out.. and your language is a tiny bit on the rasist side. they area actors. you have english actors playing americans sometimes.
@bubblescout324 Yes, you are both right. Michelle Ryan plays Nimueh in Merlin and Maria here - she really gets around, actually, she's got a lot of varied roles under her belt!
i think this is the one part that bothers me- she refuses to act several times and is never punished for it. Edmund speaks up on her behalf saying that she's the only one who acted rightly.
Fanny's hair though, is quite modern, but if you remember in "Sense and Sensibility (Emma Thompson & Kate Winslet version)," because the Dashwoods are on the poor side, their hair was down or in a "messy bun/ponytail" formation quite often. As Fanny is the poor relation, I understand the direction taken in the subject of Miss Price's hair. It is reflective of other Jane Austen adaptations.
Fanny's Aunt, not Lady Bertram but the other Aunt, is getting on my last nerves. If it were possible, I would have jumped through my computer screen and smacked her right across her pompous face!
@lonesomelittlegirl Because if your writing in this comment section this is for the 2007 version your probably trying to find the 1999 one and they probably cut it out because of some improper word, or something to that effect. Censoring it.
I think this makes me an official Austen NERD, but...
Edmund from Mansfield Park (1999) was Jonny Lee Miller who plays Knightly in the new 2009 BBC adaptation of Emma (Amazing). Blake Ritson who plays Edmund in this Mansfield Park (2007) also stars in the new Emma as Mr Elton. It's a small Austen world.... Love it!! Thanks for posting!

I can't understand why no one was bother by Billie Piper's VERY MODERN HAIR style and look.
She would probable fit better in "Lost in Austen" where she could look like this without being a distraction in watching the movie.
Through out all the movie I felt like she just step back in time 200 years and NOT like she was "part of that time".
Billie Parker was a bad choice for Fanny.
