Music shouldn't be about computerized perfection, in my opinion. It removes the imperfect, intriguing human element and creates something sterile where natural talent, practice and effort is no longer required. Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, Jim Morrison and more didn't have or need Melodyne or Antares Autotune, and there's just something about raw human performance that I worry will be lost with the advent of technology like this.

@MattStottmann dont worry it wont be replaced,nothing beats live music :). its just that standards will be higher for live performances, because we will be used to people singing in tune, anything that isnt will stick out like a sore thumb.

besides pitch correction isnt perfect and you can tell if something has had alot of pitch correction on.

with all this new technology the mix engineer can be far more creative and really bring a unique angle to the performers music.

this should be a core vst that comes with all digital workstations, audio - midi? that's some basic but incredibly useful stuff, we've always been doing this but by using transposition and stretching and it just seems obvious that this is the smart way of doing it. but i guess they're gonna rake it out as long as possible, keeping it a seperate piece of software to generate as much money as possible cuz that's what software companies do best...

Guys, melodyne doesn't always have to be for singers who don't know how to sing. It can be used in many ways. If you watched the video and paid attention, you would know that. It's just a fun program to experiment with. Expand your ideas with music and realize producers like this aren't just fakes.

What's the point of a human singing if a computer is used to perfect the recording?  It's not even the person singing it anymore. I guess that's why so many singers sound awful live or have to lipsynch. Most pop singers are a farce, and this proves it.

If this trend of using pitch correction software like Melodyne and Auto-Tune continues, we'll have artists all singing in an easy key for their voice and then having them and the producers artistically choose what key to move it to. It really is all about the power of the software, which is described as so easy almost anyone with a basic understanding of music can use it. Of course I appreciate the value of a good producer. Producers are the ones who make a track pop or resonate. A lot of the time they play a huge role in the basic character of a track. Yet this is not a video that celebrated or discussed producers.

Most artists including the greats even MJ use some sort of tuning. For studio recordings its kind of crucial. They do it a very little bit just to make it 100% perfect, but they do it. Unlike artists today, it used to be used just to keep on key not to change the total sound of their voice.
