In history, everyone says the Chassepot rifle was a superior weapon for the French.

Too bad the French totally neglected their artillery technology and were still using muzzle loaded cannons while the Prussians were using superior and very accurate Krupp breech loaded artillery with explosive shells. I think more Frenchmen died to the Prussian Krupp artillery than they did from Prussian needle rifles.
