  • Do you play post-rock?

  • Do you play POST-ROCK?

  • Nice venue ;-) Would you mind shutting the door so as not to disturb your dad?

  • oh shit !!!!! that was awesome

  • thanks for taking the time to demo all your gear, it has been really helpful!

  • Thanks for making the video ! I like your playing too !!

  • to be honest i thought it was more bad ass with no effects

  • high depth level.... are you inside a grave ?:)

  • ad skip 0:01

  • Great playing!

  • Great song dude! May Allah bless you and your guitar with 72 virgins and rivers of wine.

  • @lute760 allah durka muhammed jihad.....durka durka durka

  • @allah211 Thank you come again!

  • What I don't get is how your style and your playing sound so good, then I go to your band's page and I'm like.........really? You should do solo instrumental stuff......

  • My bands page is old and hasnt been updated for years.

  • @craigmcarthur1 Well, either way. You should do more ambient stuff. It's good.

  • @craigmcarthur1

Dude we got the same guitar man.

  • That sounds awesome man, nice playing

  • hey do you think you can tell me what song that was you were playing

  • Its one of my own, from my band Vinyl Future. It was orignally in a song called Fortune Unknown but we cut it from that song, its now in another song called Terribilis Este Locus

  • Comment removed

  • great clean sound man

    that's awesome!!!!!!

  • Very, very nice indeed. It approximates the huge reverb that Robin Guthrie uses. Thank you for posting this video!

  • Its my practice amp. Its Line 6 Flextone II

  • Is the modulate mode on the rv-5 the same as the modulate mode on a giga-delay or boss dd-7?

  • Just scored a new-in-box RV-5 for $50, I first heard how it sounds from your review, thanks

  • Nice one! Have fun with it!

  • Wow you are great!! how long have you been playing guitar? Very nice job!! I like you'e style of playing! : )

  • what amp u use in this video ?

    ty

  • what amp you use?

    ty

  • You wouldn't happen to have any experience with the Boss RV-3, would you?

  • I have had a very brief experience with an RV-4. I owned one for about 3 weeks before it was stolen along with the rest of my pedalboard from my car! It was good, i really liked it

  • @craigmcarthur1 Do you know why when you plug into input B it really changes the sound, makes it quieter, sounds more wet, and really soaks the tone?

  • realy nice job craig! love the mod reverb

  • Hey man i really like your sound. Is this pedal worth the money, its like $200 where i live. Should i just get a boss ME-20? or some kind of other multiple effect pedal?

  • Muti effects can be great. They can allow you to learn which effect you like and learn to combine them to produce your own sound without having to spend a bucket load on individual effects. Try and pickup up a GT6 or GT8 second hand, or a POD

  • what would you reccomend for me i alr.ady have to delay pedals and i want to get a little more ambient /

  • Reverb mixed with delay can produce some nice ambient sounds. Mixing delays can sound great aswell. Analog delay units add ambience.

Have a look at the Boss RE-20, it is a good unit for ambient tones

  • Great playing by the way! Sounds great.

  • @nrt3296 try mxr carbon copy. by far the best analog delay pedal ive ever tried. altho re-20 is good too!

  • i think he has the same Line 6 that i have :)

  • Hey man you are awesome! I am looking for either a delay or reverb effect pedal to ''upgrade'' my sound. Now I've got not much money to spend so maybe you could advice me which of the following pedal's is the best for me to buy?

    - Line 6 Dl4

    -Boss dd3, dd6, dd7, dd20 or 20-re space echo

    - Boss RV-5

    Thanks in advance.

  • I would buy a delay before a reverb, it is more versatile and will have a bigger impact on your sound.

The DD-3, DD-6 and DD-7 are all fairly similar. Good digital delay tones, but limited in terms of versatility of delay types.

The DL4, DD20 and REspace echo are in a similar league. I preferred the DL4 as it has a loop function

  • Thanks! Tomorrow I'm going to buy the Line 6 Dl4. At the end I liked that one the most for the biggest diversity of delay's.

  • Hey craig,

how is recording using the line 6 recording software or w/e it is that came with the flextone?

  • Cant comment I'm afraid I've never used the software that came with the flextone other than the 'deep editing' software that alows you to set up presets

  • I dont think I hide behind the pedal. There are songs I play with my band were not one pedal is actually in my signal chain. I use them to enhance and add to my playing. I play in a band with 3 guitarists so you have to be innovative otherwise you get lost in the mix, or the band sounds ike mush

  • can you get the sweet child o mine effect with this pedal?

  • Not sure exactly what tone your talking about. Can you be more specific?

  • @craigmcarthur1

nah sorry i cant really be more specific..im a beginner and i don't know what effect they are using in that song..its like kinda distorted..and it sounds like it has reverb so i don't know..thanks anyways

  • get out

  • I can give you a few tips on that kind of tone. If your amp has distortion use that, around 7-8 on the distortion knob, use around 3-4 bass, 8-9 mids and 7-8 treble, use you're bridge pick-up and turn your tone down to around 3-4-5. That should be pretty close, hope it helps-

  • ok thx

  • No problem. Does it work for you?

  • ya it works..unfortunately..it doesn't help me learn how to play the song though

  • hello, i really love your sound

just a quick question is the verbzilla as good as the rv5

or it has more to offer?

thanks for your help in advance

  • I dont own a verbzilla, so have only used one briefly in my local store. On paper they have fairly similar functions and reverb types. I preferred the RV-5 at the time of purchase however. The TC Electronic Nova Reverb is also worth a look, slightly more expensive but better sound quality

  • You remind me SOO much of one of my best friends..

  • wish i had that many pedals haha :( have to wait until 8th january for the nxt work payment then spend away it is :D

  • Comment removed

  • You look like John Frusciante. Nice playing and demo.

  • I first heard this wehn you posted it man 2 years later im still digging it! Any chance you can elaborate on the notes you are playing a bit? trying to work it out to train my ears.

    cheers!

  • Its in Am, but in Eb tuning. Someone posted a tutorial video of how to play it a while back, maybe worth seeing if you can find

  • thanks man, I think i got it :D

  • RV-5 got ''Hold'' function like digital delay ???

  • Nop

  • Hi,

Can you tell what you favorite setting is on the RV-5 using it in a chain before the amp input?

  • I change the settings often. I always have the RV-5 in my amps effects loop however. The setting svary depending on what other pedals are in use. I like the hall and modulate modes alot tho

  • awesome video

  • I gotta say how much I love the color of that les paul. Looks great! And I also like that you still use epiphone. I imagine that we agree on the fact that you pay A LOT more for the gibson name and get minimal improvement (supposing you got a good epiphone)

  • Well said

  • @GuillermoSmyser That's robot guitar! idiot..

  • @WaLaNjOaRe I have this same guitar (epiphone plus top in trans blue) with new pickups and tuners and it's better than a robot guitar.

  • very beautiful sound !!

  • wonder how'd you got all money for these pedals

  • By working

  • workin as????

  • Optometrist

  • Why the fuck does it matter where he got the money for his pedals from!! Why do people always say this!!

  • wow man, relax.

i was just wondering because he has loads of pedals/amps etc

  • Hes a guitar guy man, I will love and feel better with a guitarist when they have their own gear and effects. :)

  • it most likely came from not having to drop 3 G's on a gibson les paul. smart man.

  • I with you on this one BurmaGuns, I get aked how I can afford this stuff all the time, it gets annoying and repetitive. I play in a band that pays and I work as an Optometrist during the day. But I bought most of this stuff from a part time job whilst studying at university. Thanks for your intelligent comment!

  • what did you click off/on with the second part if you dont mind me asking?

and awsome tone as well as playing. great job dude keep it up.

  • There is a timeline in the video description of what I turn on/off throughout the video

  • can you send me the tabs for this part of your song?? please i really want to play this :D :D

    thxxxx

  • you really are spectacularly talented.

    buying your ep soon :D

i would kill you for your setup. excellent work.

  • Thank you, let me know what you think of the EP if you purchase it. Thanks

  • cool pedal!!!does anybody the name of the song that he plays?

  • Its one of my own songs. It was originally in a track called Fortune Unknown, but the direction of the song changed so it was dropped. It is now part of a song called Terribilis Est Locus Iste

  • excuse my very bad english but, how are your cords? i mean tunning, standart setting EADGBE? because i'd love to play this :$ lol

  • great demo!

based on your info, you placed the reverb pedal before the delay?

  • Nop reverb ALWAYS last in the chain

  • I like the thongs you played. could you tell me what it is?

  • Its a song of my band Vinyl Future. Its called Terribilis Este Locus

  • which neck pickup ? seymour duncan 59 or sh2N ?

  • 59 in neck

  • i am thinking about buying new humbucker neck pickup for some post-rock and "clean sound" things...i am between 59 or SH2n....whats better ? i think 59 because of lower output but i'd like to do coil split and sh2n has 4 conductor wiring...:/ ....but 59 in your video sounds very good ;)

  • I like the 59. I like to have a higher outpur pickup in the bridge for heavy stuff, but when I switch to clean I switch to the neck pickup and like a smoother lower output pickup like the 59. the 59 is well matched with the JB

  • Sounds great!

  • yea thats what i did ..those helicon products arent bad..thanks man!

  • will this reverb pedal work with vocals?

  • Erm Im actually not sure. It might interfere with the phatom power from the PA desk to the microphone. Would possibly work if you used it in conjunction with a DI box. If your looking at vocal effects you should check out TC Electronic Helicon range.

  • nice stuff man....how do you think this pedal would go with the metal zone?????

  • Yeh, I have a Keeley modified MT-2 and it works fine alongside the RV-5

  • Where can i get tabs for this !?

  • I have never written any tabs for any of my bands tunes Im afraid, we just kinda write parts as we go and have never taken time to write any tabs out. Sorry

  • i just got the discontinued RV-3 from my friend at Boss. i like it way better than this

  • I liek the RV-3 I had one of them, but it was stolen. I prefer my TC Electronic Reverb to both the RV-5 and RV-5. But I do like using the very digital sounding modulate reverb mode on the RV-5, its the only reason its on my board.

  • Great tune, I wish I had written it myself! It is exactly along the lines of what I have in my head. I'll definitely check out the other tunes, as well.

Scotland rules!! I'm from Greece but I lived in Edinburgh for one year and a half. I miss it a lot...

Now, about the reverb... I am such a horrible pedal snob and usually go down the boutique route, but this Boss one just gets these wonderful Isis reverbs in a second, and that's a big plus for me... (they use it very often).

  • You from Argentina?

  • Nop I'm afraid not. I am from Scotland

  • are you Bi-amping the Mesa head with (i believe) is a line 6 combo?

  • I use three amps. Line 6 Flextone II combo as my practice amp. Live I use a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb Head for my overdrive tones and Hiwatt 100 head for my cleans. I use a Radial Tonebone Headbone VT to switch the heads satellite controlled by a Gig Rig Pro 14 and ocnnected to a Mesa Boogie Stereo Recto 2x12 with V30's

In this vid its just the Line 6

  • wait this riff sounds like the one from your line6 dl4 looping video terribilis est locus iste but only in a different key. is it the same?

  • Yeh its the same riff without the harmonies, but with an extra bit. I dont know about the key, not sure if I had the guitar in standard or Eb in eitehr vid

  • i see you really dig your digital boss pedals.

i'm kinda stuck between the boss rv5 or ehx holy grails series.

    what say you?

  • Erm Iprefer the RV-5 from those two, but the TC Electronic nova reverb is better than both of them, but more pricey

  • how bout the much talked about hardwire reverb? that looks decent too.

  • I cant comment on the new Hardwire range to be honest as I havent tried any of them. I have read a few reviews which were all positive however.

  • are u in a band then?? or just yourself

  • Yeh I play in a band. We ar called Vinyl Future. Details ar in the video description.

  • sixk, you just made my mind up for me, im off to buy one of these!!

  • whats the point in living wen theres people better than u at everything

  • Thats the spirit

  • whats the point of watching these videos if your just gonna be an ass? Just cause he doesnt play a million notes a minute doesnt mean hes a bad guitarist.

  • i was being serious. i know if i practice ill be as good, but im 22

  • i think you got mynameismark wrong, i dont think he was dissing craig, rather he was dissing himself.

    22 stll young man!

  • I am only 23! Age means nothing. There is a guy I kno through a friend who is 16 and plays as a professional session player on big shows here in the UK. He is unbelivable!

  • bang on.

why have people given this comment a thumbs down??

  • hey dude i checked out your EP

its pretty good, wish it had never run with scissors on it..

also you should realy check out the digitech/hardwire pedals.

    rv-7 or dl-8

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. NRWS will be on a record of ours at some point. Its one of my favourite songs also!

I will defo check out those pedals at some point, been mega busy so havent been ito the guitar store for a while

  • do you get alot of this stuff for free since you make videos and review of gear?

  • Hahah I wish, I bough all this stuff myself Im afraid. Worked my ass off!

  • that's a pretty tune, dude!

  • I want tabs, haha :D

  • Man that is a really erie tone..And distinct..cool

  • what string gauge are you using ?

  • Depends which guitar I am using and which tuning I am in. If in Eb standard I use 10's normally.

  • Thanks. And just one question . What do you think about boss dd-20 ? is it good or line 6 DL4 is better ? by the way cant wait to buy your EP. :) ...sorry for my english

  • Your english is great!

Personal preference really between the DL4 and DD-20. Have a look at the TC nova Delay I prefer it to the others.

EP is available as an MP3 from iTunes etc, CD will hopefully be out next month.

  • for sure . TC Nova is great i know...but... i want a looper and delay in one unit if it is possible :) I wish that Magnum Opus will be on CD, too ! the best song from Vinyl Future in my opinion.

  • if you want looper and delay in one pedal look at a headrush or dl4. Although if you mean running the features simultaneously then the only way is to have multiple pedals

  • Thanks a lot ! E2 Headrush looks great ! you showed me new way that is cheaper than DD20 or DL4 . thanks :)

  • No probs dude i absolutely love my headrush, if you look on my videos you can see my guitarist using one when were jamming. listen to the looping in [harmonics]

  • thats beautifull.

  • nice sound mate !

    peace

    dkd

  • what is that song he is playing?

  • Its a song I wrote for my own band Vinyl Future.

  • I have to say, what you're playing is freaking awsome.

  • I love the tone here. That modulation reverb is my favorite reverb sound :)

  • Hm .. I'm still wondering .. Craig? How does the standard reverbs on the RV-5 compare to those on the RV-3? I always use the last setting on the RV-3 for my more textural reverbs but I'm liking that 'Modulate' mode on the RV-5, so if that last mode on the RV-3 is also featured [and exactly featured] on the RV-5, I'm gonna sell my RV-3 and get me a 5.

  • Im not entirely sure I havent used an RV-3 in any great depth Im afraid, I had a very brief mess around with a secondhand model in a music store as I was considering buying it. So couldnt really comment

  • I see. That's okay. Let me know if you ever get one or one of your friends has one. If you can make a demo of those two compared, I'd be really grateful. Cheers!

  • Is that the plus top epi? I have that one. I bought it just because its so beautiful.

  • cool vid, made me clear the use of reverb...cool melody also :)

  • Man nice vidz!!!

  • you have alot of gear man, ALOT of gear.

  • you really like les pauls dont ya i like the original songs dude its really awesome

  • great song

    have you made it?

  • Yeh its a song myself and my band wrote dude.

  • congrats man, u have great gear and guitars, sounds really good I would like to hear it complete

  • Amazing Playing Dude!

    Thumbs Up!

  • No problem. =) Then in couple of days there will be not 30000, but 40000 views. =D

  • Beautiful! Can you post tabs somewhere?

  • Afraid not dude for two reasons (1) Band policy = no tabs, (2) no tabs actually exist for our songs as we have never written them out. Sorry! Its quite a simple little melody u should be able to work it out easy enought. Thanks for the kind words. Cheers.

  • This video, your 3 delay one and the loop function one was all i needed to subscribe. I love your tone, and just playing style in general.

  • Thanks man

  • I don't really like the sound of this reverb... sounds...thin and high....

  • Wow. Nice tone.

  • beautiful guitar and playing dude

  • OK You win ;) Bless

  • have you got a tab please

    i love song

  • I really love all of your videos they really really inspire me to play. I'm buying an RV 5 as I'm typing this.

  • i love your guitar !....

  • I really want to get it now
