Kevin Rudd did what John Howard should have done many, many years ago but could never get the courage. it's hard to think he couldn't say one word 'sorry'
gives me shivers every time I hear and see this song. Shame Rudd went on to do nothing else for the Indigenous folk of this nation and still supports interfering in communities and taking kids away under new guises. But I'm so glad we collectively finally got it together to say sorry. Just the beginning really, and so much more to do. Or not do as the case may be.....
I was working in radio as a DJ at an Aboriginal station when this song came out. Gave this song a really high rotation and gave all of Carmody's stuff attention. But still, the young Aboriginal kids in the community, and the old folk, never paid any attention. Rap culture meant more.
As a white guy, I feel terrible that what we took 221 years ago can't really be given back :-(
I'm fairly new to Australia. I came from Oklahoma and the plight of the Aborigines ring very true with me to the same suffering of the Native Americans. This song just breaks my heart to hear.
I hope that this song inspires people not to just leave comments singing one-word praises, but also to actually study the past history perspectives to appreciate in fullness the situation of where we stand and the work we still have yet to do in many areas of racial tension still present in Australia. That being said, this is a wonderful celebration of what has (italics) been achieved :-). Thank you for sharing this song
what does it say about our society that songs about having sex clubs gets more views then this does?
