I always liked and admired Chris and his artistic and challenging bass playing - roadied for Drop Bears during the time this clip was made. Funny, I always thought I'd see him again one day. Nearly 30 years. My deepest condolences, Josephine, to you and the family.
If anyone is interested I just bought a few rare Dropbears Vinyl 7" singles off ebay. Can't believe the condition they were in!!!!!! It looks like the seller has a few more, don't know where he got them from, but they surely must be collectable?? never the less they are now proudly in my collection as you never see them for sale!!! Dropbears........Underrated Aussie band!!!!!!!!
@nzoz1982 you area an absolute god. I love alot of the oz music from the 70's and 80's and you keep posting awesome stuff. I had never heard of these guys until I stumbled upon this cracker of a track in the related videoes section while watching the hitmen. Sometimes I wish i was born well before the 80's, rather than in the 80's so I could of grown up with this stuff!!
Josephine, sorry to hear about your brother,he was a very cool bass player, sounds great on this track & also some great stuff he recorded on his solo myspace page. Your brother was an important part of the Australian underground music scene.Best wishes to your family .

@youngdocteurs78 Thank you so much for your comments and thoughts, yes my little brother seems to have been "very cool" to the very end his music was a great passion for him. Chris also put up a tremendous fight against his illness. We were all with him at the end and he will be terribly missed by his wife Phuong, and children Daniel and Amy and I simply cannot imagine him gone.
Hi ninyae, thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot to all of us. Yes, my brother certainly had a talent for the Bass Guitar and also composing which he has been doing for many years now and yes whatever he turned his hand or mind to he gave 100%. Think good thoughts of Chris and thank you again for your wishes.
Josephine
Also if anyone who knew Chris wants to attend his funeral it is on Friday at 10.00am at the Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens Crematorium in the North Chapel
It had been one of the thrills in my life the day Chris got in contact with me on this channel, around about two years ago. He was excited about this upload of 'Fun Loving' and in his words, wrote 'where in the wild world of sports did you get this clip from?'. I got to look through Chris's myspace page and was impressed to see the success he had made of his life, especially as a family man.
To the fans and friends of Chris Toms this is his sister Josephine and I am heartbroken to let you know that Chris passed away on Sunday 17th October 2010 after a very hard, but well fought battle with Cancer. He never gave up!
Chris's wife and children Amy and Daniel and all the family and friends who so dearly loved him will miss him terribly - but I suspect he will be up 'there' playing his guitar and composing new music.

@josephinenowak Hi Josephine, I actually found out about Chris' passing from Bruce Griffiths today. I knew he had cancer as we had been in contact via email. I knew he was facing a tough road and I wish to convey my sympathy to all of you, to his wife and children.
Chris and I used to enjoy some pretty mean games of pool at places like the Civic Hotel and he took great pleasure in beating me, which he did most of the time! He was a brilliant bass player and worked so hard at being good at it.
Wow. Right from when JJJ was the best radio station on the planet. Thank you so much for putting this up. I only have this song on a long worn cassette tape but it is as fresh in my mind as anything.
I remember when these guys were in "next big thing" territory, with their song "Shall We Go"(circa 1984?). Great song! Now this gem, I remember seeing it on the ABC youth cultureshow "Edge of the Wedge" in the mid 80's.
This is amazing. I have been looking for stuff on this band for years. I once had a cassette, with about 6 of their songs, including this one but a friend stole it! Very Very cool!

Great bass sound in this track. Reminiscent of The Cure's sound around that time. Sad to hear of Chris' passing.

Just wondering who the drummer is? My ex husband told me it was his brother, Simon... is this true?

Sorry to hear of Chris passing away. I enjoyed watching him getting right into the riffs playing bass back in the 80's when I was at University.
