I listen to your presentation of this great old tune frequently. I first heard it played by William Coulter as I have most of his recordings. Where are you located and do you ever do concerts? I sense you are a Christian by your selections and thought you might play at church some. Great music!
Mr Coulter is a wonderful artist! I live in central KY, I do play at my church and in some local venues. Thanks for your kind post and if you are ever coming this way know you have a friend here!
There is sheet music for this. Fingerstyle Guitar magazine had it a long time ago try ordering a back issue. This song is the most beautiful song I have ever heard, and this guy plays it extremely well. I use part of it as an intro to an original I wrote. The first time I heard this song I had tears. Thanks for sharing this with us!! I wish I could find my old copy of the music (I do not read well at all but I was able to use the CD and the music together to muster up the intro I use).
I have heard a local guitarist play this as a meditation at church. He was not sure of the name of the piece. Is there sheet music available for this? (I am a by-note player as opposed to a real musician.)
I love this melody, my experience of Celtic music is very limited but I've heard this played by William Coulter and your version is great. Since I started listening to the previously mentioned musician (my first listening experience from this style of music) I'm really caught. Being from Sweden, the drama in the music makes me nostalgic due to some similarity in the structure of the folk music from there.
thanks for taking time to give the video a listen - like yourself i was drawn to this melody from the first time i heard it. Celtic music does seem to have a unique charm about it and i like to devote more time to it as well. Thanks again, hope all is good,
Hi there! I've been looking for this music everywhere - do you know where I can find the tab? My husband and I play it but it's by ear with tinwhistle for melody. Here's hoping... :)
Anyone know where I can get a recording of this song as on this video...just on the guitar? I've found other versions, but none solely on guitar, which is what I would really like. This version is lovely and you play it beautifully tonedr. I'd like to use the song in my wedding mid-August if anyone can help me out.
i wish i could help - the only recording i've heard is William Coulters with all the instruments. Maybe someone will be able to help - i hope your wedding goes great!
I was so glad to find your video as I am trying to learn this beautiful tune. Like you, I loved this tune from the first time hearing it and am now haunted by it to learn! You play it beautifully. Thanks
Dale, I have watched your video probably 10-15 times and can not quite figure the B part. All of us who are trying to learn it want you to do an instructual video on it!! Thanks again for posting it.
isn't it a beautiful arrangement and tune! I'm very glad to hear you are playing it.....i will seriously consider your kind request. Hope all is good,
Dude this is a beautiful piece very well played. I have the William Coulter book Celtic Crossing and love his music. Do you know of a tab version of this tune? Also have you heard or played his arrangement of Si' bhead Si' mhor (translation appreciated) you might like it alot. Great stuff thanks.
wonderful playing, great tone, and great technique. this was a joy to listen to, and was masterfully done. the best of your best; and this is really saying something.
on a side note, I would like to see more emotion in your playing. for a moment there you actually look out the window. you almost looked bored. from your expressions, or lack of them, it amazes me that such a beautiful and haunting melody is created.
sure appreciate the kind words! Good suggestion and i appreciate it very much. You are right and it helps me to get feedback from other players! Thanks again,
"More emotion, looking out the window, bored!!!" Music is to be listened to...did you ever think the emotion is coming from the heart through the guitar. I only wish I could play that well looking out the window!
Still working on this tune Dale and forever thankful for the TAB!
sure appreciate your kind words and your time to watch! Your suggestions are good and appreciated...i hope to continue to work on and improve in this area. All the best my friend,
Wow, you play this so beautifully and with such feeling! What a wonderful song, it is also one of my all-time favorites. Have you heard the version on the Celtic Voyage compilation CD by William Coulter et al?
Thanks for your kind words - I have head that version and it is just beautiful, a beautiful song with some other instruments as well! Thanks for watching, dale.
So nicely done, I play this exact version and learned a couple missing notes from your wonderful video. What other Coulter tunes do you play, I just starting taking lessons from Bill, incredible teacher & well rounded celtic musician and you did as good as anyone I have heard pull this off. Keep them coming my friend, Brian
Hello Brian, great to hear from you and what a wonderful teacher! I'm happy for you. This is actually the only tune of his I do, but would love to discover more. Your kind words mean a lot. Please keep in touch, dale.
You really should credit William Coulter with the unique arrangement on guitar of this beautiful song. It is on his "Celtic Sessions" recording. You did cover it quite nicely though
credit where credit is due mate! I've heard a lot of people play celtic stuff in fingerstyle and open tunings with great technique but little expression or flow. You got it all, I look forward to more from you :)
That is very kind and encouraging! I really appreciate your comments. I love this style of music and it sounds like you have a great deal of love for it as well. I hope your new year is a great one and guitar filled.
