I was 16 and in Memphis. I was watching a rerun of the Brady Bunch when I heard. The city didn't expect what happened after his death. Memphis had no idea how big he was. He was just a neighbor down here. It was a crazy three days after he died.
This was truly one of the darkest days for Memphis and the world, I would have given anything to have been there, I was only 15 and didn't have my drivers license yet or I would have been, what a horrible nightmare for us Elvis fans.
No doubt greatrey that the day Martin Luther King was assassainated was also one of the darkest days of Memphis, so very sad and tragic, two wonderful men lost at such early ages, both who never wanted to do more than just help people but in different ways. May they both rest in peace for the work they did.
@ElvisFreak77 Sorry you couldn't make it to Memphis. I was there, thru the night and the next day. As the news spread, people started coming. . Everone was in shock. It was surreal. It was quite, people talking in low voices, as if they were in church. It was a memorable night, walking along the wall, gazing at Graceland with sadness and unbelief.Elvis, dead? It cant be! As dawn broke, people began drifting in, becoming a flood of Elvis lovers to pay their respect to the man, the King !

I still remember where i was when i first heard Elvis died, i was still too young to remember JFKs assasination...I still remember Kurt Russell playing Elvis and saying Oswald
was going to brag to the world "Ah assassinated Elvis Presley" with an Elvis accent. That would make a good documentary on the History channel.
Thank you WMCTV, for being what you are today!!

I will never forget the day he died.

It is hard to believe that Elvis has been dead for 34 years.

The Seville in the road is Elvis' Cadillac.
He was driving it at the time.
It was the last automobile he purchased for himself in 1977.

Does anybody remember the PSAs from TV 5 that bled into programming as a transition from commercial during the 1970s and 80s?
TV 5 was up there with KSDK as one of NBC's top rated affiliates in the 1980s.
