Fack! How about just replacing the rivet! Dah! Seriously...30 seconds per rivet...and if its blind (can't get to the backside) maybe a minute. Geeezz. Maybe we can light some fuel off in the belly!
heating aluminum causes it to expand, then when it cools down it gets tight again, often causing weak points , which in the long run will ruin your fishing day.
can find the potable butane torch used here with brazing rods here cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330481014286&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
you guys are missung the point....yes tig would be fast and clean but how often do you drag your tig machine out in the boonies to go fishing........probably never.........this is a good solid repair in the field
@sickdeathshappen Take your tig out 50 miles from electricity under an oak tree with the cold wind blowing and show me how good and fast you are. I never have been able to get my electric welders to work without electricity.
@jimmyg34567 This rod is not for someone as smart as you are. This rod and technique is for someone that does not have an expensive welder, and cannot afford to take their boat to a real welder and pay $300 for a 5 minute job.

That's brazing, welding requires electricity.

@certifiedpronw If you are not just plain stupid, you will cool your aluminum slowly and it will not crack .

Yea but, why not just tighten the rivet a little bit? And it that fails, just replace it. Those are very soft rivets and easy to work with.

this isn't welding, it's brazing.

@sickdeathshappen You must be really, really smart if you can take a TIG out in the wilderness, with a breeze blowing and weld with it.
1930charles 2 months ago
@sickdeathshappen It takes much longer than that when you are out in the wilderness with the wind blowing and you have no electricity.
1930charles 2 months ago
@richmansteve By your user name, I assume you are rich enough to have a tig welder. Everyone cannot have a tig.
Everyone can afford a propane torch. BTW, I have seen some tig welders burn a big hole in a boat. Hope you weld better than you spell.
