I have to clear something up with you about the threepence (3d) coin.

It was minted before Decimal currency came in. (which was 1971). Before decimal currency there was 240d (d = pence) in £1. A shilling was made up of 12d (and 20s made up £1). so a 3d coin was NOT useless, as four of them made 1s. also pennies were worth more then and even when decimal currency came in a penny was still worth something, they even had decimal half pence coins until early 80s.
