Most of us Americans are too lazy. And we like to get things done as fast as possible, so we like cars more. People these days in the US only ride bicycles for fun. We don't think to use them for a practical purpose that would not only help the earth, but help cars last longer. And maybe if we rode bicycles more, we wouldn't be one of the fattest countries in the world...
the background music is ruining the video man uhhh but the vid is interesting just trying to give you a heads up for your next vid KEEP THE AUDIO IN MIND PLEASE
We have to make it better by coming to the realization that you can't just change cars and hope its enough. Like you said, electric cars would just be offset by the power plants, meaning those have to change too. The problem is that we came so far along one system, wholeheartedly believing there was progress. And now the amount of work and money that are required to get on track is so large that most of us would rather do nothing and pass it on to he next generation until its too late to fix it.
Electricity isn't green .... If we replace all the cars with electric vehicles, the coal powered electric plants would be working overtime. Have you seen the impact of coal on the environment? Look at the strip mines, run offs, pollution and dead miners. We have a really big problem here and getting a warm fuzzy over electric cars doesn't help the global picture. How do we make it better?
I do agree that entirely replacing fuel powered cars with electric ones is not yet a feasible option. In fact, in my video I suggest a family replace only one car with an electric one, not both.
Also, if you do your research, you will find that putting thousands of electric cars on the road will not actually increase the need for power plants.
I do, however, agree that turning only to electric cars is not enough. In order to truly see a difference, we must educate ourselves about the impacts of agricultural practices, urbanization, reallocation of resources and so forth. However, using electric vehicles is, I believe, I start in the right direction.
Why use coal when we could have wind generators giving us the extra power needed to charge our vehicles. Not only the power companies could have more wind generators but each person could have one in their back yard.
ELECTRIC power is the only way to solve the problem quickly, then we can work on perfecting hydrogen powered cars with the goal to replace fossil fuel burners completely.
I remember reading that the average trip distance driven in the United States is less than 5 miles.
Anyone ride a bicycle out there? I've put 15,000 miles on my car in the last 10 years and between 40 to 50,000 miles on my bicycles.
If all the cars out there were to suddenly become hybrid or electric there would still be to many cars clogging up the road ways.
