No, no, no you probably think of your cousins, the Norwegians rather than us Brits? We've got plenty of clean water here in the developed world and we probably have better hygiene too. That is, in contrast to Iceland (at least your capital village) where the water really stinks. I remember having a shower at a hotel in Iceland and the water stunk like rotten eggs. The locals explained that it was due to the high content of sulphur. As you can imagine I only drank bottled water after that...
haha well it depends how the water is..if u get the hot water straight from the earth (like a lot of hotels do) then it has a really bad smell...and that's disgusting..but actually every normal house and almost everywhere in iceland the water is used in another way...then it is made cold...and then again hot before it comes to the inhabited area..and then it doesn´t stink :) and also u didn't have to drink bottled water...the cold water is completely clean..one of the best water in the world :)

One of the main reasons so many people invested in Iceland was because of this guarantee - and now the banks have failed, i'm afraid this moves the debt from the banks to the nation.
I'm interested to know if the Icelandic government really did agree to act as a safety net. I want to see signatures if that is the case. If someone from the government agreed to that then that is a very serious thing. Or is it all just allowed in the EES agreement. Also if the icelandic government did not promise anything and the banks said that they did it is even more serious and the bankers are responsible. Not the icelandic people.

Iceland will have to pass this repayment bill, otherwise the country will be in great trouble financially. It is a burden for Iceland, yes, but it has to be said. The Icelandic people are understandably bitter that they have to pay for the banks mistakes, but it is absolutely necessary if they want to stay financially alive.

I think and hope everything will be ok with the Icelenders. But to be "wannabe rich peoples" as the Icelenders wanted to be the last 7-8 years, is just stupid, and mostly people predicted this to happen. If you don't produce anything, and just loan money, you will struggle after a while. Try to get up the GDP pr capita, and then become rich. I know it's a long way, but that's the only way. Wrong. Great britain were split in 2. Northern Great Britain were Controlled by Norwegian Vikings (Their capital was Jorvik, or today York) and Southern G.B by Danes.

No, no, no you probably think of your cousins, the Norwegians rather than us Brits? We've got plenty of clean water here in the developed world and we probably have better hygiene too. That is, in contrast to Iceland (at least your capital village) where the water really stinks. I remember having a shower at a hotel in Iceland and the water stunk like rotten eggs. The locals explained that it was due to the high content of sulphur. As you can imagine I only drank bottled water after that...

haha well it depends how the water is..if u get the hot water straight from the earth (like a lot of hotels do) then it has a really bad smell...and that's disgusting..but actually every normal house and almost everywhere in iceland the water is used in another way...then it is made cold...and then again hot before it comes to the inhabited area..and then it doesn´t stink :) and also u didn't have to drink bottled water...the cold water is completely clean..one of the best water in the world :)

Look - the people to blame here are not the savers, they had guarentees both from our government and yours... you should be able to trust the word of a countries government. Lucky England's going to loan iceland the money so all will be ok.

Having their own currency means that all foreign debts will cost them much, much more (like all the money they'll have to pay back to us here in the UK).
Also, tp be in the single currency have rules about taking on too much debt which would have stopped all the borrowing.
I'm no Europhile - it holds back the boom in the good times - but it also give strength in size during the bad.

Besides, the claim it'll effect fishing rights is a myth. Even in the EU you can still have 'Exclusive Economic Zones' for fishing - France has the second biggest in the world and they're in the EU.
Look - it's too late for you to join the euro anyway... it'll take years to re-address the damage done to your economy. But my point was - were you in the Euro, you'd probably not be bankrupt now.

A company can either create value or destroy value.
At the end of the year, you basically account the total sales you've made (banks normally gain in comissions and loans)!
At that value you deduct operating costs.
At that new value you deduct the money you owe in obligations (Iceland HAd A lot of debt).
At that money you Deduct depressition on your assets.
And than if there is anything left you pay your taxes.
And then comes the profit!

Yes - obviously. Even with your 100% savings guarantee I'm sure people there are worried.
But it was the icelandic government who agreed to act as a safety net and guarantee peoples savings here too.
One of the main reasons so many people invested in Iceland was because of this guarantee - and now the banks have failed, i'm afraid this moves the debt from the banks to the nation.

If someone from the government agreed to that then that is a very serious thing. Or is it all just allowed in the EES agreement. Also if the icelandic government did not promise anything and the banks said that they did it is even more serious and the bankers are responsible. Not the icelandic people.

The problems not the type of money... it's that Iceland (and her banks) used other peoples money to fund a lifestyle that they simply could not afford. - their companies own football teams here, department stores, supermarkets... it's all been brought with other people's money which has suddenly 'disappeared in the books'.
If they had spent what they could afford and the government put proper regulations on the banks - there wouldn't be a problem now.

Just a reminder, the UK is responsible for banks under there supervision, witch includes any bank operating in the UK. Just as it would be the same case for UK Banks in Iceland, if there was any.
