@randysguitarclinic How does this distortion compare to Marshall's of the day? The distortion sounds so thick in this video. It seems like fender has always been a "clean" amp and marshall has been a "dirty" amp from what i've heard but I love the sound of the overdrive in this video. Loads of bass.
@gitarmanjim1985 I actually prefer Fenders for both clean and overdrive. Then add a tube screamer and you have SRV, or a fuzz and you get Hendrix sounds. Hendrix used Fenders a lot for clean in the studio, and for Voodoo Child (the 15 minute one, not slight return). And he also had them at Monterey, next to his Marshalls. Alex lifeson (Rush) used a Super Reverb and a Twin Reverb to record Fly By Night, Caress of Steel, and 2112. All of the distortion that he got was from the amps. Great amps.
@xSGTxPEPPERx One of the new ones? Or an old one? Fender is making a new Bandmaster again. I haven't played through one yet, but word is the new one rocks.
And yes, a Bandmaster (amplifier head and 2 x 12" speaker cabinet) would be worth the money. It is a pain to load in the van for gigs, but sounds great..
@xSGTxPEPPERx If you don't mind lugging the big speaker cabinet around, this is a great amp. Really rocks. And the new version has more effects from what I have heard. When I was younger I took this amp a lot of places.
If moving the amp is an issue, try the Vibrolux. About the same power, and a lot easier to move.
Of course, the visual impact of a big speaker cabinet is worth something on stage, also. Hard choice, and only you can make the choice.
That may be a '68 Bandmaster. It has the metal trim around the grillcloth and I believe that was the only year they did that. If you look at the sticker inside it should be the 763 circuit, same as the blackface models.
@darkknight91 Hate to sound like a gearhead but they only made the bandmasters with the 763 circuit until may of 1968 and they used old circuit layout labels even after they had replaced the circuits with the 568. I shall now retire to my vault to pore over more fender history.
Great demo! So many people just blank and blab. Right to the point.

I just got a bandmaster reverb from 1973. what kind of speakers/cab do you recommend?
thanks a lot!
bille77 1 year ago
@bille77 Sealed back cab with 12 inch speaker(s). Fender makes a Bandmaster cabinet again! Try Musician's Friend.

This is a great sound. The guitar speaks abstrusely and you can feel the
vibe within the spectrum. You can hear the true "Heart and Soul" and
tone shaping as well.
what tubes did you use in the videos?
Happydays254 1 year ago
what kind of speakers are inside the cab jensen 15'' ?
jks2 2 years ago
@jks2 Originally, yes. I had to replace the speakers and re-did the baffles to accept Fender 12" Standard Replacement Speaker 4ohm .

Thanks for making this video! Great sounding amp! I need to get me one. The Marshall I have has an awful clean channel. Your amp sounds real nice.

would you ever sell that head? I have the cab but need the head.
planetcaravan93 2 years ago
Sorry, but no. I am way too sentimentally attached to this old amp. try ebay or Craigslist. I am sure there are Bandmaster heads for sale.
