I've always felt I needed to live in this era. Times seem more simple, free! Societies been corrupt its just getting worst. Help in the fight to spread Peace Love and Happiness to the world! :)
If people back then saw our country today, and how bad the drugs are now, they'd be glad to have the "hippies." They were so mellow and wanted a better world. People on drugs today? They want money and only to get high. "Hippies" did drugs to open their minds and hearts to the conformist and closed-off world they lived in.
hahahaha could this be any more biased?? "the hippies are capable of extremely hard work even though they approach work as the rest of us sport. some of them are very successful." LOL wtf. he makes them sound like monkeys. the only thing missing was him being in awe that these hippies were able to use two-dimensional tools
point number 2 at the end is a real strawman and a narrow viewpoint.it's a clear a lot of people did not understand the freshness of the movement and its openess to ideas, or it's penchant for diversity within it.
Those times as depicted in this short film resonates with truth about the, effects of a movement, that has shaped this country and world to what it has become today. It worked for the good, there's no denying that.
While I do agree that these times were pretty bad, the hippie movement was a very important and interesting turn in America. This documentary seems to play it down and think nothing of it! Not everyone understood it of course, but that doesn't mean they should make it opinionated or biased on national television.

I was a hippie in Utero ( I was born in 1968) My mother was a flower child on many levels. I think in the late 1960's and early 70's we were headed in the right direction. But come late 70's everyone decided that they needed their Jordache Jeans and their gas guzzling Cadillacs and started gettin greedy. How ironic 40 years later we are in another Vietnam in Iraq. When we ever learn ??
I feel weird about this, but I need support, or really we need support. We need to change our system in order to prevent our economy from collapsing. The FED have complete control over our money and they have no government agency to regulate them, which means they could do whatever they won't, short of embarrassing themselves. If you want to take down the FED, visit my channel. There's a petition that needs your name on it!
hippies are and always will be complete garbage. They say "world peace" yet don't account the factors of how humans actually work. note how i disagree with what they are saying. Human differences which shoves a cork on their shitty ideas and beliefs scientifically. YOU FUCKERS CAUSE OUR DEBT. YOU LEFT IT OVER TO GENERATION X AND Y. and both those generations don't look to bright either. LOL WE ARE FUCKED!
@tehatemachine It so completely obvious that number one: You are not that smart, and number two: you worship fox news bullshit opinions. You really gonna say the Grateful Dead and the Hippie movement caused our debt. You are so fucking ignorant it is not even funny. The Dead in the 90's made 50 million a year, which they payed taxes on. Not to mention the economic benefits of a concert on any local economy. Seriously just fuck off.
@Hashjihadful HAHAH i knew you'd throw in fox news as soon as you could before you finished your first sentence. "You really gonna say the Grateful Dead and the Hippie movement caused our debt" Not hippies, but a large majority of them YES along with the rest of the baby boomer generation. Those spoiled fucks didn't sacrifice ANYTHING for our nation, instead they sold out every last thing on a boat to china.
Man, I miss good old fashioned hippies. Used to be a lot of them running old flea markets, nurseries and gardening shops in the 80's. It just belonged. Now, too much commercial and monotonous shopping. Hippies brought color and variety to life.
I was living in Atlanta during this time. Atlanta had a HUGE 'counter-culture' group of people. I was just 21 when it started and was 'intrigued' of course, but most of my friends and I were 'weekend hippies'. We had good jobs and had no desire to 'drop out' totally. We just went out on weekends, dressed in our 'hippie best' and 'got down' with the people. I must admit I met a lot of interesting people and had a lot of fun. HOWEVER, there were more of us 'faux' hippies than real ones.
@2hotinaz This being said, the movement, and the people I met DID help inform my 'future self'. I often helped at the hippie-run soup kitchens, thrift stores, etc. I learned the joy of giving back. Even though I came from a staunchly Democratic family, I learned why I would follow them in this. (Up til then I never thought ONCE about politics) I also worked with groups promoting equality for blacks AND women. No, I could never 'get into' the woman's lib movement, cos it was TOO radical for me.
@2hotinaz Although many of us DID work for women's rights, we did so outside of the woman's lib movement. We simply believed that women and men should be treated equally. I didn't hate men as many in the WL movement professed to do. (I worked my way through college by working at the Playboy club. I was NOT interested in claiming men were pigs cos they liked going there. In fact, I was never treated any way but nicely by the customers. This did NOT go over well with the libbers. Thus, I was...
@2hotinaz disliked by the organization. That was OK cos I disliked THEM too! I'm only trying to say that this period in time was beneficial to society in so many ways. I often get sad now, cos it looks like we are going backwards. Peace and love is just a slogan, not an action. Too many people refuse to help anyone but themselves. It seems society has taken 2 steps back for each forward step we made back then. From here, it all looks a waste of time. It DOES make me cry. I think, 'what if?'

The best part is when Harry Reasoner says that the movement is "more style than substance" and just as he says that the Dead play this amazingly intense jam!
Harry Reasoner's presumptuous "journalism" did nobody a favor. That sort of sanctimonious style simply played into the fears of suburban conservatives, but did nothing to help them -- or anybody else -- understand the socio-cultural mechanisms behind the phenomenon. I, for example, was raised by hippies near Haight-Ashbury, and I am grateful for the open environment which nourished both my emotional and intellectual desires.
My mate gav leeson is actually the child of the blond guy, he is autistic, do you think it down to the acid? aldeouse huxley wrote a book after that shit so doin acid cant be that bad? 0862212728 if anybody wants to explain about the acid thingy, i'm confuused :(
This video is funny! I was raised by hippies and I wouldn't change that for anything. My parents fostered an open-minded and intellectual environment that has since helped me become very successful in college and in life in general.
This video is sooo interesting. I was born and raised in SF, near Haight-Ashbury. I still live there, and absolutely love the area, but it has become quite gentrified, therefore expensive. I am a hippie in my 20s, and I might have to move out of my hometown 'cause I don't make enough money to stay. The funny thing is I have a college degree and a decent job. When I see this vid, it makes me wish we still had a groovy area that average people could afford.
come hand in hand. I do not think that we can go back to the days in which we lived in comunes, you can of course, but the cities are becoming bigger and more land is being destroyed. There has to be a midway path. Science and math are very important. I think the world will lay in the hands of the new generations. We must teach them, educate them. That is what i think.
I think that the way the world is today, it will be almost a revolution, a peaceful one. I believe that we must move technology forward, striving not to make money, but to coexists and live peacefully with the planet. I do believe that spirituality plays a major role. the sort of spirituality in which we can all be united in. The ancients used natural entheogens. They expanded their conciousness and opened their minds through them. I dream of a world in which technology and spirituality will
haha, why do people think the us governments and world leaders band LSD, acid and psychedelic compounds in 1966/7 just as it was rising up and getting popular? because it opened young peoples minds, and the government were like Fu** we gotta do something about this before they understand all this shit is a set-up and bullshit and create a new real free world, were people like us wont exist.
drugs r a big part of the movement!! love it. to think they were living in a time where they can speak openly about drugs expanding there minds!! now a days u wont see that, the realness and truthness they stood for!!!
Change your being through drugs?...We were all given the great gift of life. I used to do drugs and follow the Dead and all it did was ruin my life and my family.. And pot isn't harmless like a lot of people are acting like these days. I don't know...maybe it doesn't afffect everyone the same way, but messing with your brain like that is really bad. You can develop serious mental problems from the past drug use. It changes you. I hope all of you young people think twice. Be a drug free hippy :-)
@tubiebrother Its all about moderation my friend. Yes some people can't handle drugs, and maybe that is our culture of addicted personalities. But, as a person who loves doing LSD, Moli, and smoking pot, I must say that believe Alcohol is much worse. And its legal. I do work hard although, after a 40 hour week, and taking college classes, tripping on some LSD at a Dead show is fucking amazing, gives me reason to keep working so hard.
Yea those stupid hippies did nothing, except helping to end the war, and getting people to question U.S. foriegn policy, and expanding the rights of women and minorities, and starting the environmental movement, and creating new programs to help the poor, and leading the revolution in sexual freedom, and creating amazing new art forms, and inventing organic farming, and showing people that they didn't have to live life stiff as a board like Harry Reasoner.
I'm a little annoyed that when Reasoner says "style without substance," it's a long shot of Bobby. He's a good person, and he was COMPLETELY drug free at the time, I think. Sorta unfair. Can a person be persecuted for being cute?
I don't mind hippies, but today its just those neo hippies and wannabe kids trying to emulate what they saw in the past. Its just an exhausted idea, but peace is a good thing.
@ buy bunco or what ever the fuck ur name is .FUCK U u r cunheaded lil peice of shit eho doesnt know nythng bout the hippies u keep ur penus hole shut n fuckoff

Actually a true analyzation, but a little biased n cynical at the end. But right about its hedonism, self-indulgence, hypocrisy, n unproductivity to solve pressing problems instead o' emotional.
Thanks for accomplishing nothing while the world was burning, you selfish, long haired assholes. "We're not interested in revolution." No doubt, you were instead interested in self indulgence and hedonism, and eventually that led the the recession of political consciousness in the US and the rise of Reagan. Great work.
@veganjoshua Umm....they did accomplish making wonderful (subjective) music and being a positive (instead of evil) force for millions of people. I would say that's pretty unselfish and quite remarkable. Besides, just because someone isn't politically minded doesn't make them inferior. There are other kinds of accomplishments.
@veganjoshua Yea hippies are completely impractical, half-assed n they new it. They had pleasure and n enchanting lifestyle, but knew it wouldn't last for long in a challenging universe
3. I lived through all of this, lived in the Haight, did the anti-war protests, did the whole "trip." Then, in the 70's, I grew out of it.
4. The residue of the Hippie movement can be found in the postmodernism that has infected humanities depts around the USA & Europe.
5. On a lighter note, the best part of the scene was getting laid on a regular basis, with many partners, with no fear of HIV, Chlamydia, etc. All the STD's were curable, but not now, kids. So be careful w/ your immune system.
@bboucharde Good points. Now, when you say you 'grew out of it', do you mean that the idealism was just 'a phase' you were going through and you're wiser for not being idealistic? Must take umbrage with that logic. Now sex without consequence - that IS beautiful!
@Ghoopty Thanks for your response. My thoughts: Yes, idealism is normal in 20-year-olds but very questionable in 50-year-olds. After you get married, have kids, run a business, meet a payroll, do a couple of graduate degrees, serve in the military, and travel overseas, you tend to become realistic and pragmatic. Later on in retirement, you become fatalistic or reactionary. Such is life. About the "free" sex? Yeah, that was a sweet time--no regrets there--But there is more to life than that.
1. During the interview at the Dead's house, the interviewer's question, "What have you learned?" .....and the vacuous responses, reminded me of an unprepared grad student getting wiped out during his his MA oral exam.
2. Hippies were not new in 1967; it is just that the LA & NYC media discovered them, and in reporting about them, inflated the movement. There were beatniks before the 1960's, and Bohemians before that. There were "hippies" in Berlin in the 1920's. See p. 2.
Hey, come and listen to my MEDITATION PIANO MUSIC and tell me how it helps you meditate. Also listen to any other tunes or watch videos and tell me thoughts or feelings.
@Ghoopty i agree with some of what you say but i have a problem with the generalizations of old and new hippes. as if there is such a thing first of all. and second i think u would find hypocrites (or dishonest people poseing and hip for some reason) in both what u generalize and old and new
@Ghoopty I surely agree with number 1.I saw the transition occurring during the later years of the Grateful Dead. The difference between the Phish fans and the Dead fans is incredible. There are exceptions to the rule, but it seems EVERYWHERE at a phish event the fans are rude, obnoxious, impatient and fucking downright shitty at times. There are the exceptions to the rules though. Now the kids think a wookie is cool. In the day a wook was a lolife, thief, beggar, scammer, spare changing derilict
@otisflywheel420 Dude I go to many Phish and Dead shows, (Furthur now) and I have to say I think you are wrong. I have many awesome Phish buddies, so maybe I am biased, but there great people at all these concerts. I purposefully bring some drugs, booze, or something to give away to random people, so maybe I have good karma, Last Phish show I went to three weeks ago, a guy gave me a free ticket, then I snuck right down to the front at the HollyWood bowl in La. It was awesome.
@Ghoopty This is 100%. I was told by a younger person with a New York art background never to say that I supported "hippie" things, because that word had come to mean all the wrong things, so I say "classic" or "60s" hippie ideals. Or I talk about John & Yoko. Jay
@HodgePodge218 That's amazingly pessimistic. What you're saying is that you have no hope and no faith in mankind. I do. There's MUCH more tolerance in this country than there used to be. I believe people are INHERENTLY good. Look what's happening in other countries - people are tired of being oppressed and are affecting change. I know politics is set up to reward greed in the present, but I believe that will eventually change. It has to. Or we will perish.
@Ghoopty Negative talk against Hippies NOW adays? They have always hated the Hippies, man. The Hippies were cool, are cool.Except for the Hippie Chicks that dont shave their armpits.Other then that,i love them.Jesus invented the Hippie Movement and they nailed Jesus to a tree for saying we should treat each other better.
@rwnfrd It's true - the hippies have always been maligned, but since I'm 38, I never witnessed it firsthand (just read about it). It just seems to me these days that it's fashionable or trendy or something to condemn hippies and the hippie movement when a lot of the naysayers are 1) probably in grade school and therefore need to grow up and/or 2)just don't know what they're bashing (i.e. we fear what we don't understand). One could make the point that Jesus was the original (and best) hippie!
1) If anything, it's the other way around. How many modern hippies do you know that are like the stereotypical hippie?
2) Most of the negative talk concerns the general stereotype that hippies are too hedonistic and just lay about doing nothing but smoke joints (and that is not the case).
3) That just isn't true. War is declining worldwide. That isn't even a matter of opinion. It is just fact.
@Cthulhudiddit I think a lot of your response (AND mine) was completely speculative. I know more old hippies than young ones. Certainly there are exceptions to every rule, but FOR THE MOST PART hippies embrace hedonism & escape (nothing wrong with that, I do it too). As for war declining worldwide, that may be true - what I was referring to was our current culture's fascination w/violence, which manifests itself in UFC, road rage, killing sprees, the media, etc.
My Dad worked as an undercover cop back in the 60s & 70s, pretending to be part of the hippie counterculture, usually in order to trap ‘undesirables’ on drug busts.
He told me that as a ‘bonus’ he could rape any ‘hippy chick’ who ever took his fancy. If they ever complained, a fake prosecution would be arranged- apparently resulting in a prison sentence. He was then just moved onto another assignment- his bosses laughed at his “bestial stamina in continual sex with these filthy animals”.
@SuperTruth77 Wow. Great story. You're either making this up or you're dad was a sick mother f**ker. If what you're saying is the truth and your dad took pleasure in his job, I hope God has taken care of him. I've never come across a comment like yours!
@mistaAnthonyWilson Yeah, but for some people those doors are closed and you know what opens those doors to self honest, responsible, and forgiving self? well , drugs that open the mind and such, for other people it is love, respect, you can not say it is self destructive in your terms my friend because it is out of your understanding.
@Alithecomedian REALLY truly HONESTLY ? I think not, what one WILL find within the experience one 'can' get from drugs is that the experience was not ACTUALLY needed, nothing can be taken from it that one cannot get by SELF directed honest evaluation ov whatever one 'seeks' and I have extensive experience ov this 'phenomena' myself.
HOW would U know what I understand or NOT ?
is LOVE of WAR not destructive in itself ? next you WILL B telling me that there is none WHO love war eh.
@mistaAnthonyWilson I disagree my friend, as a person who lost his father young in life, i was a messed up angry individual. When I was like 18, 2006 was the year, I started going to Dead related shows, and took lots of Psychedelics. The experience of being with someone on this drug and just talking for eight hours straight, with no ego, no connection to your former self, you really have some incredibly deep insights. In the 50's pyschologists used LSD for psycho-analysis.Nancy Reagan even did it.
@Hashjihadful are you sure you REALLY needed the drugs to do that?, meaning could you not have done SO without intoxicating yourself and that FACT you where effectively intoxicated, what does that say about you the situation and the remedy.
SELF HONEST introspection doesn't need drugs in FACT you might find that you can effectively solve your issues without them entirely, I mean are you STILL tripping NOW? I doubt it and therefore you might be better questioning why you needed to take LSD at ALL
@superchrist1000 haha, why do people think the us governments and world leaders band LSD, acid and psychedelic compounds in 1966/7 just as it was rising up and getting popular? because it opened young peoples minds, and the government were like Fu** we gotta do something about this before they understand all this shit is a set-up and bullshit and create a new real free world, were people like us wont exist.
Ok, that kinda makes sense. When watching Fists of Fury(or The Big Boss), the foreman explains to Bruce Lee's family and friends, concerning the whereabouts of their murdered family members that sometimes, kids drop out, didn't really know what he meant but I guess it just means they fall by the wayside with booze and drugs when they get alot of money, I guess, lol.
@chairmanofthebored1 Well, with turn on , tune in, drop out, Drop Out' meant (according to Tim in his autobiography): self-reliance, a discovery of one's singularity, a commitment to mobility, choice, and change. Unhappily my explanations of this sequence of personal development were often misinterpreted to mean 'Get stoned and abandon all constructive activity'.
So tell me, how do you's long-haired kids live with yourselves, huh, lol? Bet that's what they were thnkin. Yeah right, hard rock, maybe by 60's standards, lol.
Hahaha Dead playing "Hard Rock" :D. How naive this narrator, and actually entire network, really is. And if their movement is growing, more and more people are "dropping out", isnt their philosphy for a better world working? great video, laughed pretty hard at how things have changed since then, and in otherways how they havent
heheheh. 'they rely on hallucination for philosophy. this is not a new idea and it has never worked'. nice quote. seing how numberless cultures use hallucination as their transition rituals into adulthood and such. funny guy!
You can really notice the intellectual gulf between Bob Weir on the one hand, and Garcia and Lesh on the other. Or maybe Weir's brain was just fried at that point.
I don't know the reporter so I don't know whether he's a dickhead or just a man of his time. I find his contemporary take on the hippie movement fascinating, and he is a well-spoken man. This is from somebody who was born more than ten years after this documentary was aired. Grateful Dead rocks!
@aksalone The reporter sounds like Harry Reasoner who was working for CBS at the time. He was a very respected journalist. Starting in 1968 he was on 60 Minutes and later became world news anchor for ABC.
@aksalone Yep, as said above the reporter is Harry Reasoner. Sounds like you and I are about the same age (I was born in '78). Just my guess is he was a man of his time. Just from talking to my parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents, how much more liberal society got in the mid-60s was a marked change from just a few years earlier and how buttoned-down things were in the 50s and up to around the time Kennedy was killed.
I want a new kind of hippies, spiritual hippies, i want that all the people come on the streets to meditate and fuck the television, the media and this morrons with their corrupt governement. Just spread love and actualley live the life to the fullest
I don't belive for a second that the Grateful Dead ever admitted to "abuse" LSD! Abuse is a ver much abused word by media and officials working for the goverment!
WøW! smoking is indeed a filthy stupid habbit.2:03 especialy if a whole table is drawing nicotine like maniacs.I smoke myself ,but not as sheepish communal as that bunch.
I try not to light up ,if other people around me are smoking. They truly look like, they ape each other.Try to cut back anyway.;[▬~""""
@PAULLONDEN - Don't be a bitch. People can smoke if they want. And plus it's the 60's, the who the fuck cares if a couple guys sit around a table and smoke a few cigs? It's not a crime.
Ever hear of a drug war: Drug dealers have wars all the damn time.
People who use drugs don't have wars because the term war refers to conflicts between nation states---and such groups of people don't make up nation states. There is, however, drug inspired violence: which is little better.
For the record acid can't even kill you, drugs aren't drugs. You have to elaborate your definition so that you understand the positive usage behind them.
The philosophy behind hallucinationogens have never worked? Psychedelics are ment to expand your conciousness and put you in the subjective reality you're trip tells you. This old dude needs some acid... Nowww
they made some good points in their interview, but whhhhyyyyy did they have to say that drugs are the way to a peaceful world. no wonder the commentary was negative.
I think that the reason why some people dislike hippies is cause the the drug habits. jerry says that his idea was influenced by drugs but I had the same view before drugs and before I saw this video. Even if it was influenced by drugs it doesn't matter cause he wants peace!!!!!!!!! And that's all we want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Theres the real danger that more and more young people may follow the call to turn on tune in drop out." I dont know about you guys but Im down for that...the only danger is coming back to the crap mess you left from...never comin back...peace!
Who's talking at 2:04? Which of the Grateful Dead guys in this video are still around?

I was living in Atlanta during this time. Atlanta had a HUGE 'counter-culture' group of people. I was just 21 when it started and was 'intrigued' of course, but most of my friends and I were 'weekend hippies'. We had good jobs and had no desire to 'drop out' totally. We just went out on weekends, dressed in our 'hippie best' and 'got down' with the people. I must admit I met a lot of interesting people and had a lot of fun. HOWEVER, there were more of us 'faux' hippies than real ones.
2hotinaz 6 months ago
@2hotinaz This being said, the movement, and the people I met DID help inform my 'future self'. I often helped at the hippie-run soup kitchens, thrift stores, etc. I learned the joy of giving back. Even though I came from a staunchly Democratic family, I learned why I would follow them in this. (Up til then I never thought ONCE about politics) I also worked with groups promoting equality for blacks AND women. No, I could never 'get into' the woman's lib movement, cos it was TOO radical for me.
2hotinaz 6 months ago

I am a hippie in my 20s, and I might have to move out of my hometown 'cause I don't make enough money to stay. The funny thing is I have a college degree and a decent job. When I see this vid, it makes me wish we still had a groovy area that average people could afford.

So be careful w/ your immune system.
bboucharde 11 months ago
@bboucharde Good points. Now, when you say you 'grew out of it', do you mean that the idealism was just 'a phase' you were going through and you're wiser for not being idealistic? Must take umbrage with that logic. Now sex without consequence - that IS beautiful!
Ghoopty 11 months ago
@Ghoopty Thanks for your response. My thoughts: Yes, idealism is normal in 20-year-olds but very questionable in 50-year-olds. After you get married, have kids, run a business, meet a payroll, do a couple of graduate degrees, serve in the military, and travel overseas, you tend to become realistic and pragmatic. Later on in retirement, you become fatalistic or reactionary. Such is life. About the "free" sex? Yeah, that was a sweet time--no regrets there--But there is more to life than that.
bboucharde 11 months ago
@bboucharde I hear you. Thanks for your intelligent responses (rare on YouTube)!

Kids, a few points:
See p. 2.

A few more reasons why people hate hippies -
4) People fear what they don't understand.
5) Empathy is at an all-time low.
6) Cartman on South Park
OK, I'm done.
Ghoopty 11 months ago
I think there's a few reasons for this negative talk against hippies nowadays.
1) Modern hippies are giving the original hippies a bad name.
2) People are envious/jealous of the hippies and their hedonistic lifestyle.
3)The world is getting harsher and embracing conflict/violence.
What people are apparently blind to is that WE MUST EMBRACE HARMONY AND TOLERANCE IF WE WANT TO SURVIVE TOGETHER ON THIS PLANET.
Peace and love to you all.
Ghoopty 11 months ago 27
@Ghoopty i agree with some of what you say but i have a problem with the generalizations of old and new hippes. as if there is such a thing first of all. and second i think u would find hypocrites (or dishonest people poseing and hip for some reason) in both what u generalize and old and new
collectiveconscify 10 months ago
@Ghoopty I surely agree with number 1.I saw the transition occurring during the later years of the Grateful Dead. The difference between the Phish fans and the Dead fans is incredible. There are exceptions to the rule, but it seems EVERYWHERE at a phish event the fans are rude, obnoxious, impatient and fucking downright shitty at times. There are the exceptions to the rules though. Now the kids think a wookie is cool. In the day a wook was a lolife, thief, beggar, scammer, spare changing derilict
otisflywheel420 7 months ago
@otisflywheel420 Dude I go to many Phish and Dead shows, (Furthur now) and I have to say I think you are wrong. I have many awesome Phish buddies, so maybe I am biased, but there great people at all these concerts. I purposefully bring some drugs, booze, or something to give away to random people, so maybe I have good karma, Last Phish show I went to three weeks ago, a guy gave me a free ticket, then I snuck right down to the front at the HollyWood bowl in La. It was awesome.
Hashjihadful 4 months ago
@Ghoopty This is 100%. I was told by a younger person with a New York art background never to say that I supported "hippie" things, because that word had come to mean all the wrong things, so I say "classic" or "60s" hippie ideals. Or I talk about John & Yoko. Jay

HodgePodge218 6 months ago
@HodgePodge218 That's amazingly pessimistic. What you're saying is that you have no hope and no faith in mankind. I do. There's MUCH more tolerance in this country than there used to be. I believe people are INHERENTLY good. Look what's happening in other countries - people are tired of being oppressed and are affecting change. I know politics is set up to reward greed in the present, but I believe that will eventually change. It has to. Or we will perish.
Ghoopty 6 months ago

HodgePodge218 6 months ago
@Ghoopty Negative talk against Hippies NOW adays? They have always hated the Hippies, man. The Hippies were cool, are cool.Except for the Hippie Chicks that dont shave their armpits.Other then that,i love them.Jesus invented the Hippie Movement and they nailed Jesus to a tree for saying we should treat each other better.
rwnfrd 6 months ago
@rwnfrd It's true - the hippies have always been maligned, but since I'm 38, I never witnessed it firsthand (just read about it). It just seems to me these days that it's fashionable or trendy or something to condemn hippies and the hippie movement when a lot of the naysayers are 1) probably in grade school and therefore need to grow up and/or 2)just don't know what they're bashing (i.e. we fear what we don't understand). One could make the point that Jesus was the original (and best) hippie!
Ghoopty 6 months ago
@Ghoopty
Cthulhudiddit 4 months ago
@Cthulhudiddit I think a lot of your response (AND mine) was completely speculative. I know more old hippies than young ones. Certainly there are exceptions to every rule, but FOR THE MOST PART hippies embrace hedonism & escape (nothing wrong with that, I do it too). As for war declining worldwide, that may be true - what I was referring to was our current culture's fascination w/violence, which manifests itself in UFC, road rage, killing sprees, the media, etc.
Ghoopty 4 months ago
My Dad worked as an undercover cop back in the 60s & 70s, pretending to be part of the hippie counterculture, usually in order to trap ‘undesirables’ on drug busts.
He told me that as a ‘bonus’ he could rape any ‘hippy chick’ who ever took his fancy. If they ever complained, a fake prosecution would be arranged- apparently resulting in a prison sentence. He was then just moved onto another assignment- his bosses laughed at his “bestial stamina in continual sex with these filthy animals”.

Alithecomedian 9 months ago
@Alithecomedian REALLY truly HONESTLY ? I think not, what one WILL find within the experience one 'can' get from drugs is that the experience was not ACTUALLY needed, nothing can be taken from it that one cannot get by SELF directed honest evaluation ov whatever one 'seeks' and I have extensive experience ov this 'phenomena' myself.
HOW would U know what I understand or NOT ?
is LOVE of WAR not destructive in itself ? next you WILL B telling me that there is none WHO love war eh.
JUSTIFICATION.
mistaAnthonyWilson 9 months ago
@mistaAnthonyWilson I disagree my friend, as a person who lost his father young in life, i was a messed up angry individual. When I was like 18, 2006 was the year, I started going to Dead related shows, and took lots of Psychedelics. The experience of being with someone on this drug and just talking for eight hours straight, with no ego, no connection to your former self, you really have some incredibly deep insights. In the 50's pyschologists used LSD for psycho-analysis.Nancy Reagan even did it.
Hashjihadful 4 months ago
@Hashjihadful are you sure you REALLY needed the drugs to do that?, meaning could you not have done SO without intoxicating yourself and that FACT you where effectively intoxicated, what does that say about you the situation and the remedy.
SELF HONEST introspection doesn't need drugs in FACT you might find that you can effectively solve your issues without them entirely, I mean are you STILL tripping NOW? I doubt it and therefore you might be better questioning why you needed to take LSD at ALL

Ok, that kinda makes sense. @chairmanofthebored1 Well, with turn on , tune in, drop out, Drop Out' meant (according to Tim in his autobiography): self-reliance, a discovery of one's singularity, a commitment to mobility, choice, and change. People who use drugs don't have wars because the term war refers to conflicts between nation states---and such groups of people don't make up nation states. There is, however, drug inspired violence: which is little better.

@MetaMorphy ...the drug war is a side effect of drugs beeing illegal. It's just the same that happened with alcohol during the prohibitation days...

Nowww

@Pan3405 I think it's just someone who looked a bit like Neil. Real Neil is very easy to spot, just like his wonderful music.
