That was amazing! I'm american, and I never thought about what other countries might call jelly/jam/jello.... geese no wonder they think we're crazy is right!!! Well... we are kinda crazy.
I'm an Aussie and you're thoughts are 100% CORRECT! i thought Americans were eating jell-o (here in after "jelly") and peanut butter, i always thought like, why would u wait like 8 hours for jelly to set, only to mix it with peanut butter and put it in bread, i thought you'd have to eat the sandwich as soon as you made it! the penaut butter & jelly vide by Nicko (robjnixon) just changed my world :P great video by the way. sorry for such a long and drull comment.
Hi katz, I love you, you make my day everytime I log on to check out what you have beeen up to. In regards to pb&j sandwhiches, I couldn't think of anything worse than PB with Jam/jelly whatever you want to call it. My fave is a fried egg on toast with Vegemite & cheese, kikass.lol
cya have a good day.
P.S By the way any chance you ever coming back to oz for a visit ?
As an Aussie it didn't take me long to figure out that a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was made with jam. But for some reason it took ages till I worked out that a jelly doughnut was just a jam doughnut.
Not working on much at the moment no, just a TVC on an performing and creative arts festival at Deakin. Other than that just learning how to do motion capture and writing...
My mother would take bananas that where overly ripe and to get a little more live out of them add it to the Peanut butter. No jelly, just the bananas. It was really good!
Lol Im from Scotland and when I was younger I used to think it was peanut butter and jelly as in... y know our jelly which is your jello... but our jam is your jelly... I think, Anyway yeah I used to think it was quite strange lol :D
I'm in Australia and YES! I did wonder all the time about how on earth Americans managed to put "Jelly" (or what Americans would call Jello) on their sandwich...
and why they never mentioned what flavor of "Jelly" (or to Americans - Jello) went on their p,b&j sandwich!!!
And then one day went to the trouble of trying to make a p,b&j sandwich with Orange flavoured "Jello"....or to the rest of the world Jelly...and it didn't work so well.....
Culture is so funny jell-o jam jelly boot trunk its all kinda the same. You totally woke up in the middle of the night to do this video didnt you??? Random thoughts come to me in the middle of the night.
Other confusing foodstuffs (then) twinkies, oreos, and hershey bars. Oreos are sold here now but not when I was little. I ate a Hershey Bar when I went to the US last year and determined that it had a slight aftertaste of vomit. What's with that?
Hershey Bar... yeah, it is the wax they put in it to keep it from melting too quickly. not the best chocolate... certainly nothing compared to Cadbury :)
As an Australian, I can say that yes, when reading "The Babysitters Club" I always thought that the girls were eating sandwiches with jelly/jell-O on them! And I had no idea what Jell-O was, cos they seemed to be eating that all the time too. Crazy Americans.
I'm from Australia and yes when I was little I though you put peanut butter and jelly (well your jell-o) on sandwiches which I thought was a little weird! Hmm maybe one day I should try a peanut butter and jam (jelly) sandwich? I have an American pen-pal and sometimes the differences we have such as seasons and everything can be very confusing!
ahahah i too tried to put jelly(jello) on a peanut butter sandwhich as a kid. Wasn't very nice lol but in the movies it always seems to be purple? so i tried grape jelly/o with my peanut butter sandwhich. ewey
In Canada we have jam, jelly and Jell-o. I always figured the difference between jam and jelly was the gelatinousness level. The more gelatinous substance is jelly, whereas the more densely fruity one is jam. And then there's this imported lemon custard from Scotland. Mmm... Lemon custard. So good on toast.
Yep thats what I use to think when I was a kid I actually once tried to put jelly ... err ... jello in a sandwich with peanut butter once to try it out cause it sounded cool,
Im an aussie, and yes. I thought you were using "jelly" on your pb & js, until i came there to visit some friends, and asked if they could make me one cause i really wanted to try it... I was kind of disappointed to find out it was just normal jam... sigh lol
I don't know what they call marshmallows... I think it is marshmallow... but cookies are biscuits ;) that took awhile to explain... "what is a cookie?"
No Jello? How can they live without never having jello, a travesty. In my hospital stays jello was about the only thing they'd give me that i actually looked forward to and didn't taste like it was made of cardboard.
Speaking of jam, have you ever had homemade blackberry jam?
My grandma used to have us pick some for her when they came out and then she'd make up jars of it, delicious.
And the term "jelly donut"(jam doughnut in ye olde english talk) does rather lead one to suspect you chaps favour bovine matter in your sugary treats. each to their own!
That makes so much more sense...I've always had this mental image of Americans spreading mashed up jello (well, jello to you, jelly to me) onto their peanut butter...similar to the consistency of marmalade...(the jello, not the PB).

Thanks Angela, I noticed the tweet indeed. We call it jam either way.
What you tweeted I would've first called pudding, and after getting weird looks I would've explained its the transparent-ish kind of pudding until someone suggests I might mean gelatin, which is indeed close to the Dutch word for it.
We don't have koolaid here, but I'm guessing it's a lemonade, right?
O how YouTube opens up possibilities to explore the wonders of the world, eh? ;)
