  • I want to dedicate this song to Woody, a counselor from a camp I went to as a child. He'd always sing this song with us and his part was when the girl 'answers'. He'd go into 'high pitch' and we'd just love it!!! All the girls back then (we were 11) thought he was HOT!!! Thanks for the memories!!!!!

  • It's funny, many years ago I took my young " white by the way" lol daughter and her best friend to the store and on the way back asked her best friend if she wanted to stay the night and she said I can't I'm gonna watch my grandma sing tonight. I'm thinking church, okay where is she singing? She answered I said who is your grandma? Doris Jackson of the ..?? WOW my daughter knew but never mentioned it. I loved their songs reminder if the innocent days we need to bring back.

  • Absolutely amazing. This music is filled with sentimentality and emotion, why can't we have this type of music today?

  • @GaussTruth Because people today don't have 'normal ' sentiments or emotions.

Rather they have smart ass attitudes mixed with vulgarity & immaturity!

Look at the world around you, it's not just the music.

  • this is so sk8tr boi.

  • A Top 5 hit for The Shirelles in May 1963. This would be their last big hit.

  • Dionne Bromefield did good covering this and she was like what...13 when she sang this? She is going to be really good when she gets older.

  • Music from my youth. Loved it. Nothing like it. Roller Skating at St. Stephens on saturday morning with Connie Jones.

  • Aff,amei essa música...conheci através da Amy ok

  • Dilla sampled the intro!!!!

  • reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll music

  • Completely authentic. Original superbly and classically talented.

  • They were absolutlely fabulous on stage and off. Doris was a good friend of mine. She was truly one of the neatest people I ever met. Every time I see an Oreo cookie (her favorite it reminds me how much I miss her.

  • They were great on stage and off. Doris Jackson was truly one of the neatest people I ever met. she was a good friend and I miss her tremendously.

  • Saw the Broadway show "Baby It's You" about the Shirelles ( and Florence Greenberg ). Good show. This song was one of many featured.

  • I am 58 years old and i remember this song because it reminds me of my older sister connie. Connie was born in 1945 so when I was 9 she was 16, she played all ki nds of music on her record player, this song she played all the time. My sister was beautiful, and the guys really liked her. When mom was drunk which was nearly all the time connie took care of us. When mom beat me it was connie who would comfort me with loving words, her arms holding me tight. I lost connie, I miss her so.

  • @7252christian God rest Connie's soul.......what a wonderful, loving sister.

  • @7252christian So sorry for your pain, then and now.

  • @7252christian

It was the Lord who put Connie in your life to help you through the dark patches.

Even though your sister is not there now, God is and He will continue to love and protect you. Some day you will be with your sister again rejoicing around the Throne of God.

Thanks so much for sharing that and God Bless You.

  • @grabastic Keep religion to yourself please.

  • @demo2382 what did you say? Who are you? This is a free country and all comments are solicited on YT. Where do you get off telling me that. Who are you?

  • @7252christian That's a beautiful story. I think about it now every time I hear this song, and that is a lot :) I am a big sister and I will always try to take care of my little brothers just like that! Connie sounds like such a great person! You are lucky she was your sis' :)

  • @7252christian what an incredible story, thanks for sharing that. Connie, Connie, Connie, bless her.

  • @7252christian

I'm glad connie was a ray of sun in your darken corner. May she live on forever in your heart where she has always been.

  • @7252christian well Connie lives on with music my friend. never forget x

  • @7252christian This is so wild because my sister was 12 years older than me and that is how I got the same appreciation for this music...She taught me how to Chaa.. Cha,,. in the living room...

  • @7252christian I Heard This Song From My Big Brothers Around The 90's I'm 22 Now I Know Whe Don't Really Relate But I Love This Song.....

  • @7252christian I really love this song, too. I work at a casino that plays all the old songs and I had never heard this before and now I can't get it out of my mind. Although no one can say for sure, but I truly believe that when we die, those we loved in this life will be there in the next. Connie sounds like such a sweet person. I'm glad she was there for you.

  • @7252christian awh ( ':

  • @7252christian I am the same age as you. I too was abused by my father. I had no one. You were lucky to have a sister that cared about you. She must of been someone very special. I am sorry for your loss and may she Rest in Peace. May God Bless you and I hope today you are doing well. Peace

  • Weren't They Just The Cuttest!

I was Lucky Enough To Be There,

In the 60's, listen & Buy These Records.

  • The early 60's were such an incredible time...JFK in the White House and a wide open music business with all of these incredible African American talents making fabulous records...and genius like Phil Spector in the studio and Carol King writing these songs.

  • @BartA22 The 60s were a great time to have grown up. The music and overall "excitment" was indeed incomparable. There were some unpleasant issues, too, going on though : Vietnam War, Civil Rights protests, assassinations, etc... but we all survived. At least most of us...

  • Take that you little two timer !

  • en Français ce n'est pas mal non plus chantée par HELENA LEMKOVITCH

  • The Shirelles show that you can be classy and still sexy

    my idols =)

  • LITTLE GIRL :LA DA LA DA

    TEACHER:STOP SIGING THE SHRILLIES

    LITTLE GIRL:IM SINGING THE SHIRLLES

    TEACHER :OH

    LIL GIRL:LA DA LA DA

    TEACHER : HEY!!

    LIL GIRL: OH SRRY

  • @TheCupcake490 - I don't get this. Is this suppose to be funny?

  • Shirelles were my favorite "girl group" by far!!! So many wonderful songs. On this tune, I love the back and forth between the singers, the arpeggio guitar, and the simple but effective solo, and the way the song fades out at the end .... I had this on 45 back in the 60s and just about wore out the record ....

  • I love the shirelles and I hate how people think oldies are limited to Michael Jackson or the Beatles- I listen to songs from the 50's to 60's with my grandpa in the car

  • Love this song!! Definitely not my era but nothing beats oldies:)

  • I am a poet.

  • @ThisBodyLikesMusic (Not trying to be rude.) And?

  • Amazingly beautiful voices ^_^

  • only 8 extreme feminists ))

  • I love this song!

  • @geebeeman1 hey i love this song too its beautiful

  • I can still see myself dancing off of this in about 1964. I was still in High School. I loved these girls, they were a class act till the end.. Thanks for the upload. ; )

  • @9876543217303 Their still out there performing ,and singing their hearts out . How do I know ? I promote and produce 50s 60s 70s original R/R staged events. The line up has changed alittle , but still some of the same girls are in the group . Ive used them many times , they are always a great group to stage , and as friendly as can be . Keep on supporting their music , they all appreciate it dearly

  • @mrconcertman this is awesome to know. I grew up listening to the Shirelles before any other girl group so I know that I will continue to support them. I just hope that they work their way back to Chicago lol. At any rate, it's always nice to see them going strong. They were always good girls. Thanks a lot! : )

  • @9876543217303 Im from ILL also and have done alot of concerts around my home town ,at the Peoria Civic Center We did an all ladies show featuring The Shirelles , The Chiffons , and The Crystals , along with The Dixie Cups awesom! Dee Dee Kennibrew , lead singer of the Crystals was the one who helped me, and inspired me to get in the in the business about 15 years ago .

I made alot of close friends in the business , and they all appreciate what you guys do for them and all the support

  • 1963 Hit Great group .Best Times

  • dionne bromfield version is wayyy better XP

  • Good song!

  • Dirtbag Dan does a rap of this

I think he does it incredibly well

  • @TimeForDadTime haha hell yea he does.. hiphop def loves the classics

  • The Beat Goes with the lyrics Perfectly

    thats Dope

  • San Jose, Baby!

  • Bring back the bouffant. If I were a woman, I'd have one.

  • Helen Miller is probably the most underrated songwriter ever. This song is heaven. The French yé-yé singer Tiny Yong did a great cover of this song called 'Tais-Toi Petite Folle' that's well worth checking out.

  • @torridscene Miller was a talent. So was Greenfield. Somewhere along the way, all the great songwriters disappeared....our loss.

  • dirtbag dan..

  • @drowningpoolsz hahahaha you funny!!!! dirtbag dan is sick wit it tho!

  • I like this, but I prefer Dionne's version, it seems a bit more singalongable but this is good :)

  • The Cookies did the original demo of this & it's also great.

  • This is probably my fave Shirelles hit, though I'm also fond f some of their later "non-hits", as they don't quite so "girlish"...

  • This is the most beautiful way to tell some one. YOU FUCKED UP!! PAY BACKS A BITCH (which of course is rejection).

  • So much better than that cover version. Best version easily.

  • Dirtbag dan?

  • @matic49ers lol, THE ZAY BABY, AHHHHH!!!

  • @matic49ers Thats Fuckin Awesome :)

  • in response to an previous comment, the shirelles were from passaic ,nj!

  • One or more of these babes were from Passaic, NJ. One of the main drags known as Paulison Ave. is also named Shirelles Blvd. Hometown girls made good!

  • i love this song!..so cute and emotional!!

  • I like this kind of music. It´s great.

  • im 22 years old and was raised to listen to this music and i gotta say its true music and not like the stupid garbage of today

  • @esperantomusica lol okay

  • @The85thkid okay what? :S

  • @esperantomusica I'm 26, and as much as I am in agreement, I also have to point out, not all the music of today is garbage, just the ones we can access easily through radio and/or television. I doubt there will ever be the beauty and innocence of love will ever come back.

  • A classic gem

  • Great oldie my Mum used to sing..

  • @PrimrosePoet yur mom is awesome

  • Yeah, but we should be damned thankful for Dionne Bromfield. That CD of hers is just excellent and this is one of the best songs (and videos) of the CD. She has covers of other Shirelle songs on that CD, too. Man, I wish she'd tour with Amy Winehouse. That would be the perfect concert for me. Of course, the Powers That Be won't even let Amy into this country. Don't get me started.

  • You can convert this or any youtube video to an mp3 at audiogetnow..com

  • Hey I was born in 1952 and remember the Shirelles and alot of the girl groups back then, pre British Invasion they ruled.

  • I was so young but my big sister's played it all the time! Good old days! :D

  • Straight outta of Passaic NJ high school.the Shirelles helped put the girl groups on the map and deservedly into the RHOF.

  • This is probably my most favorite song from that era. The women were so classy and so lady like. (At least in public) To bad being classy went out of style, because that is what really made the women of that era SEXY!!!

  • @donnyg7531 --yes shirley owens sings lead

  • what do black ppl think about this?

  • @willfullyobscure I dont understand your question - why should it even matter what black people would think about this? Its a great tune, liked by both whites and blacks-

  • @christheone8773 I guess because they look and sound very "white". the girls aren't wearing their hair natural in any way, and they have this clipped, nasal mid-western girl diction that is obviously faked.

I suppose your right, it doesn't matter. It is a good song, but these days its weird to see black folk trying so hard NOT to be black folk.

  • @willfullyobscure well, if THAT were the case, I think that many female Motown artists like Diana Ross and The Supremes, and Martha and The Vandellas had the LOCK on things like that already, with their long flowing hair and makeup-

  • @christheone8773 I'm sorry, but I'm very young, and these videos from more than 100 years ago are pretty far from what modern life is like. I'm perfectly willing to beilieve that other female artists did the same thing, but I just wanted to know how ppl felt about it now, seeing the things their great-great-great-great- grandmothers did after the REvolutionary War. Its a little strange to see videos from that time these days.

  • @willfullyobscure this videos way less than 100 years old. these people were around within livin memory.

  • @willfullyobscure Nobody's THAT young. What planet are you from?

  • @willfullyobscure If you grew up in the suburbs back in those days you must certainly sounded white. My family is the whitest sounding Black family around. We're always laughing about the way we sound. Immigrated from Jamaica 1960's as little kids grew up in Laurelton Queens then Valley Stream long Island. There weren't many of us out there back then. Back in Jamaica but visits US often. US will always be my second home.

  • Great song

  • love this!

  • Love those house party's with the blue or red lights and sweet smeloling girls.

  • i love this sonng<333(:

  • i like this song i discovered it from my aunt and she's 18

  • top song...good post

  • One of my favorite groups from the 50's/60's. Their greatest hits albums showcase the depth of talent they had.

  • This song brings me back to when I was a little girl.... I love this song..

  • Doing the Chacha to this in high school. I was cool. Hahaha

  • I love this, its before my time, but good music has no timeline

  • I love Dionne's version. So much more cheerfull

  • My fav Shirelles song!

  • always LOVED this song, thanks so much for posting it!!!

  • Sounds great! Very modern sound actually for its time... Love how clear they sing.

  • Comment removed

  • in the picture. which ones which (apart from the lead singer)

  • @CenaTv2 OK, I'll take a try (someone who knows please correct me if I get it wrong)- from left- Doris Jackson, Shirley Owens Reeves, Beverly Lee, Micki Harris

  • definitely my number one shirelles song

  • dionne's version is better :)

  • dig that keyboard solo!! this is real singing !!!

  • Has it not occoured to you that the music of the 50's and the 60's has lasting and staying power. So no wonder your generation is copying our music and calling it their own. If it was'nt for the greatist generation, and the baby boomer's your generation would not be able to do the things that you are takeing for granted, and that includes taking our music.

  • @lincoln68508 How exactly can the baby boomers take credit for "the things that you are takeing (sic) for granted."? Baby boomers can take credit for the drug epidemic, AIDS, and President GW Bush.

BTW - "the greatest generation" got drafted.

  • I have to say the "The Shirelles " were the #1 female group of all-time....no not the Supremes..

  • can anyone say what has become of this group? are they touring or have they all died?

  • @ralphsteadey Beverly Lee is the only remaining member. She still performs as The Shirelles with two other singers. The original members: Shirley Owens Reeves left the group in 1975 for a solo career. Micki Harris died of a heart attack onstage in 1982. Doris Jackson died of breast cancer in 2000.

  • Man, one of my all-time favorite songs, and certainly the best of the Shirelles (this and "Mama Said"). Thanks for the great, high-quality post.

  • THATS RIGHT LOL

  • i like dionne's version better juss cuz its original duznt mean its beter but i respect it though

  • In this case, yes it does.

  • @elephantstuff If you want to make a statement I would suggest that you learn to write and spell correctly. Also dionne's is a copy, not the original, so the original had to be better because dionne like it.. So don't take the past for granted, don't you realize that everything that you are enjoying and taking for granted came from the generations that came before yours.

  • @lincoln68508 1st of all mii spelling is quite legible if u cud respond to it so I dnt think mii spelling is a problem, 2nd dionne's version is waaaaaaaay better and soulful than tha original.. nd like I stated b4 juss cuzz sumthin is original dnt make it better 12 inch colorless tv's are original duzz tht make em better than their modern flat screen hi def colored counterparts juss bcuz of when it was made??.. no it doesn't
