I could be wrong, but... doesn't the *public* key encrypt while the *private* key decrypts? Sure, it makes no difference to the end user who doesn't see it anyways, but if it's the reverse, the python app I just finished that depends on asymmetric encryption will get me... in trouble. A lot of trouble.
P.S. -- Using public/private key pairs for signing would be a much more secure form of authentication than passwords! Passwords are the weakest point of security in most systems.
@TheVoidReturnsNil Usually. What he called private key cryptography is actually symmetric key crypto.
SSL/TLS actually uses a bit of both because public key crypto tends to be computationally more expensive. SSL exchanges a symmetric key using public/private keys and then uses the symmetric key to transmit data.
isn't there another kind of unbreakable code? or something that keeps the decoder working for forever? oh who's read ...that one book by Dan Brown and i'm not talking about the da vinci code or angels and demons or the lost symbol. one of the not-read-as-much books he wrote...
@Farmboy1927 lol thanks...but wasn't that some sort of code...not some crazy unbeatable one like they thought, but it still took forever for the machine to figure it out...
@MrFair, what? its true, might explained it bad. But thats authentication. Otherwise you might have a future in cryptology.. (or should use better encryption)
Well, I thought that video might actually be a good introduction for someone interested in the basics of cryptography... but after "messages encrypted by the private key can only be decrypted by the public key" at @1:04 I realized that this is not the case... its actually the other way around! Too bad... but this is a big mistake.
I think they get few views per video because they have SO MANY VIDEOS. I'm going to be entertained for weeks^_^ And I just bought their DVD off their website^_^
it's another name for symmetric key cryptography although it's a bit misleading because you shared that key so it's no longer private. A more accurate alias is secret key cryptography
@AtheismandSkepticism well, it's basically because private key cryptography alias for symmetric key cryptography is not accurate. The key used is shared between Alice and Bob so it's not private per se. It's secret key because Oscar shouldn't have that key.
lol talking about this made me think, he never talks about an eternity code encryption. its very basic but is impossible to open with a voice code and imparted with a electrical current of voice encryption and is based on your own language. lol im sorry im a nerd :P
This is obsolete technology (except one time pads), multidimensional quantum fractals are here now, capable of withstanding brute force attacks from existing super-computers and quantum computers of the future.
haha thats a rule among orchestral musicians..."There are 2 rules in the Orchestra: 1. The conductor is always right 2. If the conductor is ever wrong, refer to rule one" XD
Your videos are awesome. You should try to promote your videos more and gain a fan based. Yours videos are great so, it shouldn't be too hard to gain a fan base soon...

A little bit of both. Cryptology would be the study, whereas cryptography would be the implementation.

@AtheismandSkepticism You can't deny that he has a great voice for it.
Sandurz20 1 year ago
@Sandurz20 Sure, but that doesn't mean he should be doing it, He gets many points wrong during this video:
1. It's not called private key cryptography, it's symmetric key cryptography.
2. 1:06 - He gets which key encrypts and decrypts what (cipher/plaintext) in the wrong order
3. Nobody is trying to break one time pads because they are, by definition, unbreakable.
There are a few more, but these are specific terms that can't be mixed up. His evolution video was appalling too.
AtheismandSkepticism 1 year ago
@AtheismandSkepticism I didn't deny that he does a bad job of explaining/understanding it =P
I just think he has an excellent soothing voice.

I like EJC crytography. It's symmetrical, but it's free and very secure. Until all of us are on a quantum network, EJC will do nicely.

Do your math: Intel builds 32Gb, 34 nanometer flash chips * 8 / 64 Kbps (a high quality speech codec) is a long conversation, using one time pad.
