  • conditioning at its finest

  • i get the point, but are you saying that little girls can't play "house" i loved that game.

  • "Who looks after the babies" Can't men look after kids?:O

  • And women are fools to themselves because they go along with it and do all the cleaning etc. Leave everyone to sit in their own shit I say, its the only way, don't be a fool running round cleaning up after everyone else.

  • There is nothing wrong with gender roles as long as they work for society as a whole.

  • @TruthandJustice101 Now then. Lets say one thinks that society is a piece of shit... Not good, eh?

  • Notice the videos are ALL from the eightees

  • Wow this video is a real eye opener!

  • can you tell me where i can find the digornio commercial u used @ 0:22, I really want to use it for a presentation on social constructionism. :)

  • I GET IT ... so if the media tells girls at a young age that Barbie hates al queda, our army will be unstoppable in the future

  • That rose cottage commercial is just really sad. =(

  • @Moralvorstellung7 Hmm i think women should have the right to get jobs, if i was a woman i'd get bored of the kitchen.

  • SO stop crying over stupid shit that doesn't matter and learn how to take crap and keep your head up cause all this stuff is just words its not like everyone is being forced into roles because theres alot of people in this world who would kill to have all the freedoms and all of the privileges we have

  • they still complain because they forget whats really important FAMILY, freinds, and being grateful ffor what they have i mean are they the ones starving on the streets of new york and sleeping with nothing but a carboard box and a sleeping bag while worrying if they are going to get jumped everynight an you also cut out most of the commericals to make it look alot worse than it is

  • I think EVERYONE and when i say everyone i mean anyone who bitches at not being treated fair but can say that because its a right (free Speech) we have all be given by our founding fathers needs to develop thick skins and stop bitching about this shit and luckily we all have the ability to complain about not having it good enough me persally i get sick when i hear all these people complaing about how life is unfair to them but they got tons of money and everything that goes with having money but

  • Well, every single commercial now portrays women as being the smart ones who really run the household while men are nothing but child-like, simpleton, feckless morons. There. We're even.

  • ads like the one at 1:57 annoy me so dam much

  • @dcj991 heaven forbid a female should ever cook

  • Okay, I'm just referring to the Snow White part of this video in this comment. First off, Snow White was made in the 1930s when gender roles were expected and part of the American culture. It's not like Snow White was made recently, so I find that using her as an example is unfair. Secondly, consider when the story of Snow White was written. I hope that it's pretty obvious that sexism was even more prevalent then.

  • 2:16 - 2:46 make me sick this is brain washing of cheldren!

  • In Snow White's defense, the movie was made back in the 1930's, when women staying at home to cook and clean wasn't as big of a deal. It was still a good movie, and I watched it all the time when I was little. It didn't teach me that because i'm a girl i have to cook and clean. It tuaght me not to take apples from old women. :3

  • why did the woman forget the time? cause there was no clock in the kitchen.

  • WAHH WAHHH THE MEDIA POTRAYS WOMEN AS WOMEN AND NOT AS FAKE MEN BOO HOO ITS SEXIST :( TIME TO CUT MY HAIR SHORT AND BECOME A LESBIAN

  • I question whether or not a commercial qualifies as a stereotype. You could say the children's responses are stereotypical. I think the video title you quoted is more accurate. "Gender roles-interview with kids." I think a more fitting title for this video is "gender role of women in media."

  • Stereotyping? I played rough and was a tom boy but as a female, my tendencies more of what the "stereotypes" were for little girls, not b/c of society but b/c those were my natural tendencies as A GIRL. Gender roles are perfectly natural...they fall within the norms of almost every society. Little boys don't want easy bake ovens for Christmas or want to be house dads when they grow up. Little girls don't want toy guns over a doll for their birthday. Completely normal. What is the problem?

  • *If I were the girl pointing to dolls*

Guy: Which on cleans the house.

    Me: *points at Ken*

Guy: *raises eyebrow* Which one takes care of the kids?

    Me: *points at Ken*

Guy: Which one goes to work?

    Me: *points at Barbie*

    Guy:...are you sure?

Me: That's how its been in my home. =/

    Guy: Oh...hn.

  • So what's wrong with this ?

  • Ugh, are all my fellow women hypocrites? We always complain how we are sexualized and how men always want us to be Maxim models, when we make crap like Twilight and always expect men to be perfect Greek gods. And the whole " we are stereotyped" argument is invalid because men are stereotyped as slobs or male models.

  • @Lalabeachbetty You give me faith in your gender again. Kudos and Thank You!

  • @ITHEREONETHATHASNT The sad thing is I'm 12.

  • @Lalabeachbetty Um Stephanie Meyer is a mormom... What you should really be complaining about is not the person that wrote it but the fact that all these soccer moms are letting their daughters read something that is basically mormon propaganda.

  • @TheMindoverpower #1- what are you implying? That she is a stupid Mormon? All Mormons are idiots? She's a moronic mother? I'm confused. #2 Are you saying that Stephanie Meyer is exempt from responsibility for her opinions and what she writes? Parents shouldn't always limit what their children can or can't read or see, because not only is that totalitarian, it inevitably allows children to grow up ignorant and narrow minded. Stephanie Meyer needs to take responsibility for what she said.

  • This makes me hate everything.

  • refer to the unabomber's manifesto: only those who have inferiority complexes attach themselves to nonexistent battles spawned by their hypersensitivity toward unoffensive material.

  • why do people keep putting women cleaning as a big issue? there are many single men on earth who can't get women, they have to clean their own mess and cook their own food, which is why so many even get married just as a scapegoat, women need to stop marrying altogether.

  • oh my GOD that last black and white bit really pissed me off.

  • And this is why I'm proud to be a lesbian. Twice the food prepared!! :)

  • dude....i want a husband who will stay home and cook and clean while i go out and work...but not in a sexist way. in a more..."ha in your face I'm straight and cleaning while wearing a pink apron and even if i was gay that'd still be discriminating so HA!" kinda way. x3

  • The end clip is so sexist.

  • The hell with these things (I hesitate to call them men cuz they arent) Im a woman and if the bastard cant cook or clean for himself hes the wrong material for me, I work a public full time job and will not exhaust myself for stupid chauvanistic stereotypes they can kiss my ass. I got alot of pride and will not bow down or be a slave for anybody, God help him if he tries to hurt me I will kill him and feed him to the local swamp crocs, game over.

  • Well, when you think about it, what good does advertising do for men and women? Sure, it helps sell products, but the main reason why women are mostly portrayed as housewives is because many women and men can't bear the idea of househusbands. The reason why men are mostly portrayed as working, lazy slobs is because people cannot stand the idea of a working woman....kind of. If everyone wants stereotyping to stop, then for goodness sakes, CHANGE!

  • i hate u hailey fowler

  • Theres other parts of these commercials that you missed, have you seen the pizza commercials where the women take charge??? Cuz there are some including the one that you showed but you picked out parts which i dont think is right i dunno just my opinion

  • The animals were helping Snow White to clean the house, so she wasn't alone. Also, I believe that she was doing it to show her gratitude to the seven dwarfs for allowing her to live with them.

The second clip, that showed the man ordering the woman to bring pizza for him and his friends, was unacceptable.

The difference is that Snow White was made during a time where ideas about women where seen as the norm. The second clip was much more recent, which makes it more offensive in my book.

  • I can't wait until all this insanity stops. Women belong in the home. That's just nature. You think it's fun going to a real mans job where you really have to produce and not get 16 tinkle breaks a day.

  • @joethemechanic

Is that your response to gender discrimination. Wow! and I suppose you believe it's nature that all blacks should be working in plantations and it takes effort to be a white man that heards and keeps slaves in order. There is no logic in your answer.

  • @joethemechanic

But lots of people don't get married , have children and make new families. So what do those single men and women do? what are their role in soceity ?

  • ...and y'all think it's easy for men to be at work all day getting stressed and having their boss shout down their necks all day? HA! Traditional Gender Roles exist. Get over it!

  • What's so bad about women being so DAMN GOOD at chores? I wouldn't want a lazy couch potato as a woman!

  • I want to see a cleaning product commercial with a male actor so badly.

  • @dragonofthedarknight Here in the UK, the 'Flash' cleaning products are demonstrated by a male actor.

  • @PurpleShades1 I love UK <3

  • @dragonofthedarknight i thought i was the only one who kept thinking that xD

  • @dragonofthedarknight Cleaning products understand their target market well. I'd like to see PrimtTime TV shows that do not cast men as bumbling idiots in the kitchen always subservient to the unrecognized genius in the house : the virtuous woman.

  • @feministsAreCorrupt Their target market? Men clean too. And they should do so more! If the media continues stereotyping women as the only ones who do housework, then we'll get no where in destroying our conceptions about gender roles. A man who cleans isn't subservient to "the unrecognized genius in the house" he's just cleaning his house cause he doesn't want it to be dirty, the same way women don't want their houses to be dirty.

  • @dragonofthedarknight Why should men clean more? Why don't women clean less? Should female fetishes for polished surfaces and aligned carpet fibers define household behavior? Should a man lengthen his showering from a quick five minutes to a 20-30 minute soak and steam bath to match a woman's water use?

Overall, it is very fair that women do more housework as women contribute less financially to the family, both in income and assets accumulated before a marriage.

  • @feministsAreCorrupt sign, you're just trolling aren't you? Stop talking and go watch your tentacle porn.

  • @dragonofthedarknight Think about it. Women already respond well to commercials with women taking control of polishing kitchen surfaces to a mirror shine. Thus, there is no reason to change the actors. If a woman sees a man using a particular cleaning product, will she trust a household cleaning product that is endorsed by a man? That would be like men taking advice from women on any piece of high technology : it is simply not credible.

  • @feministsAreCorrupt So, women are bad with technology? Aha. Fuck that shit! Do you know how much women would love commercials if there were hot, half-naked men called Fernando selling the products to them? The only music video I consider like able enough to watch the whole thing was Lady Gaga's Alejandro cause all the men were half naked. We're not that different. If cars and body spray can be sold with hot chicks, why can't cleaning products be sold with hot dudes? it only makes sense.

  • @dragonofthedarknight Advertisers use whatever works within FCC restrictions. If sexy men would sell cleaning products, you can be sure advertisers would use them. They are businessmen. I disagree with you that men and women are the same regarding sexual advertising. While you may be a rare exception with your back issues of PlayGirl, men are more influenced to part with their dollars for female sex than women for male sex. If not, tell me where this male Utopia exists.

  • @dragonofthedarknight "If cars and body spray can be sold with hot chicks, why can't cleaning products be sold with hot dudes?"

In Greece, I saw a Volkswagon billboard for the Cabrio with the car on the left side and a nice pair of sun-bronzed boobs (no woman) and nipples on the right side. Do you have a reason for why such a billboard would not appear in the US?

  • @feministsAreCorrupt I doubt that what you just said is true.

  • @dragonofthedarknight The Cabrio ad in Greece or that women are more effective in selling sexual access to the opposite sex? If you haven't been to Athens or any other major European city, you just can't imagine nudity in European advertising.

  • @dragonofthedarknight The Volkswagon cabrio ad was the tops. I found an article to support my observation :

Greece puts brakes on its racy billboards

    ncbi nlm nih gov/pmc/articles/PMC2598352/

  • @dragonofthedarknight Here's a commercial with a handsome, half-naked actor selling personal hygiene products. Does this ad make you want to buy a case of the product and validate the advertising?

search youtube for Old Spice | Scent Vacation

  • @dragonofthedarknight R U FUCKING KIDDING ME!!! does Billy Mays mean nothing to you!!!

  • @dragonofthedarknight I want to see a postive male role model instead of moronic homer simpsons who need to be put in place by their wives and children. Guess what? It aint gonna happen. WOman wanrt men to be portrayed as fucking moronic.

  • @dragonofthedarknight What about the oxy clean commercials? lol

  • I want to see a cleaning product commercial with a male actor so badly.

  • what is the ending clip from :p

  • @shmexiihobo leave it to beaver

  • @y100269 thanks i couldnt remember the name of that show for the life of me

  • Its funny how society is like a "tradition" in the video the man asked the children that were at least 5 yrs. old who cleaned the house and they all pointed at the girl barbie and when the man asked who goes to work they all pointed to the man barbie. I never really noticed how all commercials as a whole persuade everyone into thinking that woman cook and clean, while men just sit down doing nothing and only cook outside and not inside. Why do you think that is so?

  • @everythinginbetweenX Yeah, that's sadly true as well... ads seem to stereotype pretty much everyone.

  • Someone should do a video of stereotyping of men in the media. You realize while women are often portrayed as cooking and cleaning men are often portrayed as lazy slobs. Nobody seems to notice because men don't complain about it.

  • @everythinginbetweenX i notice it and i've been mentioning it for a long time and im a female. even in relationship books men are portrayed that way.

  • @everythinginbetweenX Well you're obviously complaining about it now. And many men don't complain about it because going against a male stereotype is seen as weak and effeminate. Why do you think so many straight men hate gays with a passion?

  • @Asperuaca First of all, I'm female, I'm an androgyne, but still female. Just getting that cleared up. I suppose you're right about the reason they don't complain about it, not that it's a good reason, but it's probably right and I've always thought that straight men hated gays because they felt that their own masculinity was challenged.

  • @everythinginbetweenX yep, too lazy to complain....

  • @everythinginbetweenX Also as masculine and muscular, good at sports, cars, and fixing things.

  • @everythinginbetweenX Yeah, and this encourages them to behave that way. UHG

  • last one is the greatest clip ever! loled so hard

  • You get an A+! Why do the women all have to look perfect, but the guys can be fat slob neantherdals!

  • i dont see anything wrong, women are good cooks and cleaners.

  • @infamousda1st I'm female. I'm really bad at cleaning. :/ (and hate doing it) I'm only a good cook because I went to school for culinary arts, I always set fire to things before... And I know tons of other women like me, think before you generalize.

  • @infamousda1st My fiance is better at both of them. He is better at house work and is more inclined to home and hearth than I ever will be.

  • CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME FIND A DIRECT LINK TO THE AD THAT STARTS AT 0:23! thankyou :D

  • Marketing lipstick to men and condoms to women would be throwing away advertising dollars... same principle here.

  • @podx990 I don't see how they couldn't successfully market male birth control or female condoms.

  • Yes, I guess it's a woman's lot in life to be the home maker, cooker, cleaner, and pop out brats 24/7

  • whats wrong with this video?

  • i guess its a sterotype that all the men have to die in the wars...

  • Nice video but I don't see anything wrong with these traditions.

  • @theskiesbelowme cause ur a guy....idiot. i bet white people didn't see anything wrong with slavery either

  • @skilletfreako - Actually there are a lot of white people who disapprove of slavery. :-/

  • Woah this is so good, nice job :))

  • Unbelievable.

  • This is kinda irrelevant to the topic of the video, but I love the kid in the interview wearing goggles. Freakin' great!

  • i like this video, especialy the end. so old school, i wish i was a man in my 30s around 1930s with a nice wife in a american home

  • where did u get that clip in black and white that plays when the end credits appear??

  • @t239

    Yeah including your mom

  • hey can i know where you got the clip from that study at 2:17. i need to do something similar for my sociology coursework...

  • yes i found it on youtube search "gender roles-interviews with kids"

  • cool thanks =]
