  • I grew up in Temecula and my parents still live there. We moved to the area in 1989 before it blew up into a microcosm of Orange County suburbia. I now live outside of California and, looking back, am interested to see that the entire state reflects the kind of transformation that has happened in my hometown. When I visit I like to go hiking on the nearby Santa Rosa Plateau - protected land.

  • Amazing

  • A famous juggler was once asked how he juggled. after he tried to explain, he wasn't able to juggle for 2 years.

  • @HeurtoSkeurto you aren't... a very good person are you?

  • hell no

  • I've listened to these guys for a few years, but I never had the chance to see them live. Also, for whatever reason, I never looked them up playing live on youtube till now. I always kinda thought they wouldn't be able to play live, just because of the crazy things they do...

It's nice, sometimes, being proved completely wrong.

  • and what hits the spot yeah. like GATORADEEEEE haha

  • This might be a good song, but listening to the lyrics that close made me realize how fucking stupid they are.

  • @hightimesbruce He went to Yale you fucking dolt.

  • @jmamana1

So, because he went to Yale he writes terrific lyrics? No.

  • TALK LIKE NERD, SING LIKE ANGEL. IS FINE WITH ME

  • Hipsters hating on hipsters...nice.

  • So much Troll in these comments...

  • dude lets all get along

  • Yes, I'm the only dislike on here. Why? Because this music is overrated. As for his guitar; I'm an intermediate player myself, but I can play Elliott Smith and Johnny Marr songs which are way more complicated than the pretty much openly played, capoed guitar he's playing. He's such a mediocre singer and the lyrics they sing are really contrived. The girls are okay singers though. Go listen to Jeff Buckley or The Smiths and then get back to me if you take issue with what I'm saying.

  • @HeurtoSkeurto Buddy you've got the wrong idea about music. It's not the technicality of the music, its the emotion. Go listen to some Robert Johnson, some Son House, and then DON'T get back to me if you take issue with what I'm saying. Keep It Unreal, -J. Isaac

  • @TenYearsGone10 I do listen to Robert Johnson, Son House, Leadbelly, Bucka White. and plenty other bluesman. That A-hole singing in the video above you is a far cry from any of those musicians. As for emotion, I don't see it. I see hollow music with really, really crappy lyrics. And if you think the blues is an easy or simple style to play on guitar (I'm going to assume you do since you mentioned it), then you're sorely mistaken. Jazz and blues are two of the hardest styles to learn.

  • @HeurtoSkeurto Oh, you're an intermediate player? Well when you're beyond that, maybe you'll appreciate this a little more. Maybe you'll also be less of a douche, but I'm not getting my hopes high for either, really.

  • @Shazbotben I'm an intermediate player, but I'm an experienced singer and I'm better at singing than this guy. Johnny Marr's and Elliott Smith's songs are way more complicated than his crap. I can play a few songs by each artist too. I've been singing since I was 16 and have had vocal instruction, later guitar instruction, and I've learned quite a bit of music theory. What he does is nothing spectacular. He's playing the way he does for the sake of being different. It doesn't mean he's good.

  • @HeurtoSkeurto Yup, good thing I didn't get my hopes up. I'm really glad for you though that your false sense of superiority allows you some brief solace from your otherwise crippling insecurity about your own abilities.

Who cares how complicated the piece is? In terms of technical proficiency/mastery, there are plenty of artists in a class well above the ones you mention. Does this make Elliott Smith or Johnny Marr any less enjoyable? I say no.

  • @HeurtoSkeurto Someone's jealous :]

Make an album then, create a band, get out there and spread your music

  • @HeurtoSkeurto - Some of the most influential music is not technically groundbreaking nor does it need to be beautiful or the like. It's the same with visual art . Why doesn't anyone paint like Da Vinci anymore? - Can no one do it now? Realism is a style - not a pinnacle of art just like musical style and technique. Maybe you technically have a more beautiful voice than Tom Waits too, but his raspy voice and influential style got him into the Rock n Roll hall of fame.

  • @HeurtoSkeurto he doesnt give a shit what is different or the same, he plays it cause he likes the way it sounds. also if your better why are u commenting on this, and not him. why arent u the professional musician, if your better...?

  • The first time I heard the album I thought the chorus was 'IIIIIIII can make you lots of bread!'

  • @cockyrooster That made me laugh!

  • what a great performance. I thought two guitars played the part he is doing.

  • @getupanddosomething

I think there are two guitars on the recording. First a 6 then a 12.

  • how is he doing this?!

  • I play a 12-string, but right-handed. The melody he plays sounds like Gentle Giant. Also, I would never play this with the capo on the 7th fret. It's not necessary; just change the key. Nice song.

  • @Raelspark it def makes those stretches easier though, plus changing the key might've not made for a clean fit for their voices

  • @Raelspark If you change the key will be a strain on the voice, no?

  • @Raelspark He probably play it in that key because it's within his vocal range...

  • Ï û kœ ę ª

  • Maybe there could be this tremendous fortune excavated! It yes... Shhh... Temecula sunrise

  • hes defiantly like the best guitarist ever

  • i hate temecula so much

  • 2:01 hes a dinosaur

  • This is why I love the Dirty Projectors. 2 capos on Dave's guitar. Awesome.

  • what is the next video to this one. the other ones dont seem to pick up where this one stops

  • the interviewer's like whaaat the fuck is he talking about? and frankly, i agree. guy's a hell of a musician, but the whole interview sounds like hipster-speak bull.

  • @foolery15 I think I understand the concept for the song actually, and I think I its pretty brilliant. A sort of Utopian suburban Complex that is subdivided into smaller cubes each containing different artistic or philosophical movements or "scenes". The song has an eclectic tapestry like sound of continuously unfolding chordal and tempo changes symbolizing the varying colors and qualities of the hodgepodge housing, and its located in Suburbia which is ironic...Maybe, that's my interpretation.

  • good writing but what is he talking about??? lsd

  • he must have two brains because it takes all my mind power to just play the guitar part but he sings at the same time.

  • I know what you mean but it's always easier to play a part you have written.

  • @danyoll exactly. if its yours, its yours and makes sense to your brain

  • sweet icy demons t-shirt

  • do not know how he sings while playing the verses...jeez. talent.

  • dude i live in temecula

  • @NightmaresandLulabys i'm sorry

  • @NightmaresandLulabys How are the sunrises out there? they as pretty as this song??

  • I know a girl that hits the spot like gatorade , funny her name means sunrise

  • whats her name?

  • morgan

  • the girls are dressed like an angel and devil :D

  • @deepsecond which is ironic because the girl that is dressed like a devil is named Angel

  • unbelievably talented. They're better live.

  • agh, yeah, I finally figured this one out pretty well but to sing over it...totally want a 12 string now though, does anyone know what his electric 12 (circa Getty Address and Stillness video) ?

  • Man, 12 string guitars must be so awesome with alternate tunings. Think of the dissonance you can achieve! :D

  • @AirHendrix91 this is in standard tuning if you thought it wasnt. he is an awesome guitarist.

  • Oh yeah, I figured. Its standard tuning with every other string tuned to the same note.

I'm just saying that 12 string guitars must be fun :D.

  • Yes, it's a 12-string. I've had one for thirty years. One way to think about it is that every other string is a light string, therefore it's much thinner and harder to see.

  • Goddammit, I live like twenty minutes away from the U of M, I wish I knew this had happened before hand. It would have been awesome to see it.

  • do you know how hard it is to sing this song while playing it on the guitar? its impossible. Longstreth would be one to do it. Hes superhuman

  • yeah! i know i recently found a tab for this song, and its like..... really? how...

but there are some good tabs for these guys, and its a challenge, but i can do rise above by them now and no intention...

  • Hey, could you tell me where I could find these god tabs? The ones I've seen so far were kind of shitty.

  • type in temecula sunrise cover in the search, the first video has a link to a bunch of em, and he even does requests, haha, good luck its tough, but worth the practice

  • @abluesman100 It's much different when you write a song rather than learning a song. He's playing it to the rythym in his head, it's how he wrote it. I'm sure he couldn't play Hendrix. It's not hit style....

  • @abluesman100 And sound great! Both vocals and guitar.

  • @abluesman100 . Totally! He's doing exceptionally complex parts on both guitar (fingerpicking an acoustic 12-string!) and vocals.

  • @abluesman100 especially something with no chords and that has wierd timing.

  • does he have two capos on his guitar?

  • they sound beautiful even live, this is probably the most interesting band ive ever heard

  • is that a 12 string guitar with only 6 strings?

  • sounds like all 12 are on there.

  • All twelve. Do you know how difficult it is to find a rental left-handed twelve string guitar?

  • kinda looks like it hu?

  • Beautiful song. I love Dave, he's so awesome.

  • dirty projectors is one of my favorite bands. i was lucky enough to get to see them in july.

i actually live in temecula and if you can get past the the bros, the excruciating heat in the summer, and all the right-wing conservatives, the town isn't too bad.

it would be awesome if they came down here to film the music video.

  • ha i love "what hits the spot like gatorade?" maybe dave is actually a bro, haha
