  • I have had 6 of these amps now that have suffered catastrophic failure of an output transistor. The reason was; the fans wont come on until the heatsink reaches a ridiculous 100c. And even then only when the amp is sending a signal to a speaker! At that heatsink temparature the transistors are seriously underrated. Arcam dont seem to realise transistors are rated at 20c. This is inept design. On my modified amp the fans come on at 60c and even in bridge at high volume I have had no problems.

  • Does this guy ever draw breath? Surely Arcam could have found someone with better or even some diction.

Bi wiring the front speakers is pointless unless a filter is placed between the power amp and the preamp and this cant be done. I have modified my 400 to use amp 6 & 7 as a bridge with the main amps and this REALLY makes a difference.

My 400 only had a pair of 10,000uf reservoir caps which is what you would expect to find in a two channel amp. Very disappointing. I have 33,000uf in my amp.

  • he mumbles a bit, but this is the most comprehensive review i found. very useful
