  • your video made me buy the Canon G9 back in 2008!!

  • what do you expect it's a canon :)

  • You forgot to say a very importent thing: It shots both RAW format and JPEG format simultaneously in the samemexposure!!! That feature can be very useful!

NOW, when I am writing this, the G11 has hit the market.

  • just bought one ! :)

  • i have too :)

i cant wait to receive it :D

  • price?

  • I just got the G9 and I agree, it's an awesome camera and the video is great! I was wondering what the best way to record video into a computer , but using a different audio input ie. filming a music video but recording audio using a different mic. Is there a program you can suggest?

  • If you are using a Mac try Final Cut Express...if you are using a PC try Pinnacle Studio version 12. Cheers

  • but unfortunately this camera does not allow for optical zooming during movie mode right? So you have to stop zoom record stop unzoom record etc etc.

  • correct, but in my case, i use as a primary consumer point and shoot for still pix. works great in that field. btw, the videos that i shot of dancing fountains in barcelona are pretty amazing, without zoom in and zoom out :-)

  • it took me about two months to decide between Canon G9 and Panasonic Lumxi TZ5. I went with Canon G9 and i tell you, it is fantastic. it has all the ease of any point and shoot cam PLUS, if you really want to learn about photography, it has all the funactionality of a manual camera. Thats what sealed the deal for me. right now have a basic time lapse clip on my page, will soon post soem pix.

  • heheh, thanks for the tip. untill I found your comment I was having the same problem. choosing between the two of them. :) Just a question though. I'm a bit confused, this guy says it shoots 640x480 but Canon states it shoots a maximum of 1024 x 768 so my is how's the 1024 x 768 if this is shot in 640x480? thanks very much.

  • yes, canon G9 shoots videos in 1024x768. i just returned from spain tour-it was the trial tour for G9- and though im not big of videography, i took some videos of the dancing fountains in barcelona and they are all in 1024x768 format; and fantastic. btw, the still photography that i did was in 12MP- 3000x4000 and i set quality to "fine" mode instead of "super fine" and it was still amazing. what surprised me was how much i can learn about photography on this camera!

  • that's awesome. I really appreciate you taking time to answer. I'll get it as well. thanks again. Cheers!

  • and btw, i had bought lense adapter, telephoto & wide angle lenses with it. but returned them after a week. it was pointless as it adds bulk to the camera (makes it larger than even small consumer DSLRs!) i dont plan to use G9 for wildlife/nature photography- for that i'll say buy a prosumer DSLR. i think buying adapter and other lenses for it gives a false impression that now we have a prosumer DSLR :-) For me, this is a small travel camera, and it does well on that front!

  • I'm buying it.

  • Thanks for the information! I must say you convinced me into buying this. Im going on a interrail trip, crossing europe by train and did not want to bring all my camera gear, so I read a cuople of rewievs and came up with this one in the end as my choice for this trip.

  • Good quick review. I'm finding I want to use the video mode more and more. It's great to have in my gear bag along with my slr.

  • Great review! Good to see the G9 in action. Audio demo MUCH appreciated...bob

  • this camera has a good relation body size and weight because of its metal construction you can feel a steady camera

  • Great review. I'm stuck on either the G9 or the Nikon P5100.

  • Just what I am looking for, great example of the cameras capabilities, you saved me alot of time, I'm going to try it out for myself, thanks.

  • Hey - It's me, Coleen. This video makes me wanna "run & gun"! You're such a good speaker Michael. I liked when Dirk was sideways and then turned upright in that shot.

  • Fantastic information

    Thanks Michael
