Amazing rifle. And no FlyingSpitzer, his shoulder wasn't black the morning after. There is a right position to absorb the shock. I can say it because I was from Brazilian Army and the standard weapon is the FN FAL 7.62x51mm. This rifle is gas operated (its possible to change the gas pressure for each shoot condition) and has a great accuracy.

@spidlenexor That's proper handling and stance. You can't stand straight as a fence post and control a rifles recoil, much less a full auto FN 50.03. Properly handled, these rifles are great fun to shoot. And no they don't bruise your shoulder, that only happens when the gun isn't firmly planted on the shoulder.

@ObdurateJayhawker You have to drop a lot of cash for one. An AC-556 is about $5000, and for an AR15 you will have to pay $10k-$15k. I don't know about AK's or FALs, but it's expensive.

The alternative is to have a full auto sear. But you can't have one AND the gun at the same time (in Germany I think you can have both, you just can't install it at all). So you need a pre-81 unregistered sear.

How can you prove it's a pre-81? It's unregistered so you're fucked anyway. Just a warning.

I believe when the FAL was issued to soldiers in the UK it was Semi-Auto. I read that during the Falkland Islands War UK soldiers were dropping their semi-FALs and picking up the argentine's full auto fals.

The UK were issued with a variant known as the SLR (or L1A1) same as issued in NZ some time back. Yes they kick like a mule but great for effective range. It took great skill to master on semi-auto so I am impressed holding that stance on full auto. I would love to know how is grouping looked though

@braggersum Obviously, you don't know much about the FAL family of rifles. Most of them are select fire by design. Only the British commonwealth and those for the civilian market are semi auto only. It is not a mod, it is an FN manufacture Model 50.03 FAL. It left the factory select fire, and he is firing it in full out mode.

@Master7770 this guy controls the recoil very well. If you can't control recoil it goes all over the place. And remember, it might not look like much recoil from a 3rd person perspective, but when looking at it from 1st person perspective, the recoil looks and feels much higher.

@Master7770 I watched that documentary too. I think they were referring to the shape of the M14. The stock is positioned too low. Newton's Second Law kicks in, and you have a recoil pushing the muzzle up and the stock down. This gun has the stock at the same level as the receiver. Compared to the M14, it makes it easier to manage climb as it kicks back, not up.

the recoil of the fal is not insane, i think its quite light for a 308 gun. ever shot a G3?? same bullet, twice the recoil. this is simply someone who is shooting it right. over compensating actually. many people just dont understand the concept of holding a gun on target. i know plenty of people who cant even hold an m16 on target on full auto, that recoil is almost non existent so it just comes down to skill

This is typical trained handling of any F.A. You can't stand straight as a freaking fence post and control any F.A., Not even the 5.56. You must lean into the rifle and thus use you body weight and grip to negate recoil impulses. Besides, the 7.62X51 doesn't have a severe recoil to start with. Use this as a guide and Practice. It ain't magic, it's proper hold and stance, nothing more.

This is literally the most incredible display of recoil control I've ever seen. Not only that, but he's actually aiming down the sight as he's shooting it...and most likely shooting an incredible group if he's aiming at any form of target. I slowed it down and watched the movement of the muzzle and it's literally negligible.

But this is one hell of a rifle. The one rifle I would NOT want to be shot by in comparison to other main battlefield weapons.

@1stMarineCapt The FAL shoots up (and as I remember) slightly to the left rather than recoils. At least the British SLR version did. The guy did well to kep it down on full auto. All people have to do is hire or buy one and try it at a range, thats the advantage of being in the US.
