All i want to know is, how do you make the weapon crates that lets you take weapons, grenades, etc?, and also landing pads and tents

when you place an object, look for the category named "empty"in the faction list. Then you choose ammonution from

the type of "units" and there you have a list over all the factions ammonution crates etc. If you want to place a helipad you must go to the "game objects" category. There it is.

So does arma have an actual terrain editor or does it just let you place in objects?

the editor that comes with the game is just like a open map an you can place objects/waypoints/scripts an all that but you can get programs to create the terrain itself but you gotta learn how to do it.
