the scariest thing about this movie was that it was based on a true story. i cant imagine being tied to a chair and have 3 crazy masked murderers take turns stabbing me and my fionce
Good, creepy and terrifying but IT NEEDED MORE GORE AND SLASHING! I realize that it's creepier without that but still....I got bored towards the end!!!
It's really ridiculous and saddening that the majority of today's audiences are so tastelessly conditioned to cheap slasher/bloody/horror films and don't appreciate this film for what it is. For a first time director, it is clear that Bertino's talent far surpasses several veteran writer/directors in this genre. Because the film is so intimately shot, it gives a very personal feel, unlike most horror films. A great film from a great film maker. For his FIRST time directing, it kicks @ss.

just watched the movie it sucked big time...it was boring, predictable, the characters were morons, the plot was pointless, Bryan Bertino is a hack, and the film was HORRIBLE!!! I just lost 90 mins of my life that i will NEVER get back.
on a scale from 0 to 10 i give "The Strangers" a 0.
@UclaChris1 so I can say his film was a steaming pile of shit...and how the director and ANYONE who is a fan of his, is a Nazi born to a wretched dumpster slut. I just felt that the film was bad enough that it deserved this type of action. haha
@EngleSackJus The story is that the strangers wanted to terrorise and then kill people. They wanted to see them suffer and see them desperate with fear and see them in distress. Like they say, "Because you were home." They were just bad people doing bad things. That is the plot of the movie.
You've been poorly trained by cliched hollywood horror movies.
Ah, just imdb-ed him, hes got the same birthday as me :) oh and hes from a town called "Crowley".......come on........you gotta turn out a fucked up horror director coming from a town with that name lol
The frightening aspect of this film is that, this can happen anywhere, at anytime. Although parts of the film had to be augmented by Hollywood, very much of the originality of this film stays quite true to real life events,(i.e. Sharon Tate/La Bianca Murders, Keddie Cabin Murders). Unlike regular slasher films where predictability is found, The Strangers is an eerie original tale of, "What If".
this movie was pretty good. It was well done. I can see some 1 remaking this 30 50 years from now. He is also writting part 2 which i know is going to be a pretty good 1. Bryan ur the best :-D
He keeps saying "what would you do", "what would we have done", in a similar situation. First of all, we'd probably do exactly the opposite of what his incredibly stupid "characters" did. He seems like a genuinely nice guy, but damn he's lucky this got made. To quote Susan Walker: "With no plot to speak of, no character development, no theme and precious little intrigue, what we have here is simply a pileup of effects. There is not even an ending to give away."
I don't get what's with all the hate on movie. I loved it thought it was scary goes long with all those underground horror cult flicks. I'm really interested n the story it was off on peaceouts
now im glad:) after i saw this movie i just had to read about the writer, Bryan Bertino. and i got my info! TNX:) you are a bad director and you made one BAD BAD movie! DROP your next title "Alone" i realy hope a sick idiot puts on a dollmask and kill you! this sux!
i actually thought of something interesting...i may be stating the obvious but what if the couple was (in a way) portrayed as the strangers because they don't live there and say the "real" strangers actually occupied that house unknowingly...i know that has holes in it but i found it interesting
HORRIBLE. If I were 13 I may have liked it. I t want until I saw the interview that i was convinced IT WAS NOT an M Night shamalalananaan movie. Just god awful.
I liked the movie, thought it was very suspenseful, but would've wished the director would've kept more of the movie inside the house. The first 45 minutes are terrifying, primarily because you don't know whats going on, and all you hear are sounds and the girl's voice. Once they get outside the house, it becomes less scary. Nevertheless, it was very effective, and a rare gem for horror, in a dying breed.
You have 2 keep in mind that this is based on actual events. 3 People died, no one obviously knows what truly happened. Being investigated they were able to put the pieces of the movie together as well as they could. Saying they should have added more people, they didn't because being based on actual events, there weren't other victims in the house. It was well done, BUT this was an actual horrific event that happened. I can't begin to imagine what this young couple went through that night.
I have to agree, the movie was very well directed. Personally, the calm and quiet scenes built more suspense because I just didn't know when something bad was going happen, it was unexpected.
dig the movie, but false advertising. "unrated" "more pulse punding terror" bullshit. It was exactly the SAME movie that was in the theatre. What the hell was new? if you played them side by side, it would be even. what the hell did they add?
I loved The Stranger, it avoided all the cliche's and was fresh and original. It didn't use cheap tricks like having loud noises to spook you, when the bad guy pops out. He didn't use the cheap mirror shot that 99% of scary movies use, his style was very original for a horror movie, and I hope he comes out with more movies.
They could've add some more people. I mean it could've been like 2 couples in the house with the strangers terrorizing them. So there'd be more blood, deaths, violence....
He didnt use as much blood, he relied on suspense. All people think are horror films are suppose to be bloody with sex and violence. Wow, where has horror come to?
I loved the Strangers. It's my favorite horror movie, but to make this movie more public I said they could've add another couple cause some teen kids who expected another Slasher movie didn't get what they wanted so they started writing all these comments on the internet that the movie is bad, boring, slow and blah blah blah. It's a great movie for some people and really bad for other ones there's no middle. Somewhy...
Just watched it. Very impressive. Old concept, brilliant execution. Most slashers feel formulaic and boring these days. Strangers in contrast maintains tension thoughout. The film does successfully convey the 'in the place of the victim' feeling he talks about too.
Amazing director... Can not wait to see what else Bryan is going to create.. For a 1st time director/writer, The Strangers impressed and shocked me in many ways where I caught myself jumping out of my seat.. Great movie and look forward to seeing a lot of impressive things coming for this young director..
He is cute; just saying. Lol. Cute and creative are two great characteristics.

More blood, deaths and violence just makes another "Scream" or "I know what you did last summer" movie. I'm GLAD they didn't do that.
