@Fathreena In case you have not received the text: Lord, I have cried unto Thee, hearken unto me. * Hearken unto me, O Lord. * Lord, I have cried unto Thee, hearken unto me; * attend to the voice of my supplication, * when I cry unto Thee. * Hearken unto me, O Lord.
Let my prayer be set forth * as incense before Thee, * the lifting up of my hands * as an evening sacrifice. * Hearken unto me, O Lord.
I'm new to Byzantium (I'm a Roman Catholic, hoping to become Ruthenian at some point) and I decided to look into the Akathist hymns. I am blessed to hear their ancient beauty. :D
@Shiranui115 It would be good if u talk to some of the orthodox monks in the monastery....those who live asctetic life maybe ur heart searches the truth and whoever searches the truth will find the truth....Roman church is currently cnsidered herressie after they split from other 4 parishes back in 1054....
@srpskiheroi Yeah, I'm aware of the split in the Pentarchy. Actually, I have an ACROD mission just about 3 miles south of my house. I should go there sometime; it's much closer to me than the Melkite Catholic parish or the Ruthenian Catholic parish. I just don't think you can objectively say which side of the split, Catholic or Orthodox, is in the right; what one person uses as proof for Orthodoxy, another uses as proof for Catholicism. But thanks for the invite, and God Bless :)
@coleridgeboy Also the whole reason there is still an Orthodox church is because the Liturgy is performed in the native languge so as to spread the light of Orthodoxy, IE St Cyril translating it from greek to cyrilic(russian/ukrainian) St Herman to Inuit , the greeks to latin , then the africans then the americas. Some people think of the Church as greek or russian and not as the Church. chooseit2 is one of those people, they are pathetic and have my prayers.
@SovietHolyMan so your saying that 90% of those who are part of the orthodox religion are oriental orthodox? of the people that are part of the othodox church then they should learn greek
@chooseit2 Im saying the Russians,Americans,Canadians,Latinos,Asians,Africans, and Antiocians dont speak greek . Your theory that the Orthodox church is soley a Greek church tells me you are not Orthodox, and very misinformed. If you are Orthodox then you need to talk to your priest. Ask him why the Church has so many languges. He will say its Church Doctrine to translate the Bible and Liturgy into the languge of the people it is being brought to. If this isnt clear I'll post some numbers for you
@chooseit2 10,737,428 est. Total population of Greece--- It is estimated that there are somewhere between 80 and 100 million Orthodox in the Russian Republic alone, and upwards of 300 million world wide. So yes Im saying 90% of Othodox dont speak Greek. By you own Implications the Greeks should learn English,Cyrilic,Chinese,Japanese,Spanish,Korean,Ethiopian and Arabic that would be a good start.
@SovietHolyMan I agree with most of what you have said i.e orthodoxy has absolutely nothing to do with nationality and by extension language usage in the liturgy, in the sense of faith. but truth is many non-greeks like some of those 90% orthodox people you mention actually do find greek great, as probably greeks find english or russian or assyrian great
MrExorcist: I understand that your first language might not be English, and that is perfectly OK. I feel, however, that I must point out that what you said here makes absolutely no sense in English. As a native English speaker, I have no idea what you are trying to say here. You might consider re-wording it a little more carefully if you want to be understood. (I understand this is hard, as I have experience trying to communicate in Spanish).
Man can you show the lyrcs "Kurie ekekraxa" in original lanugage not in english cause i have searched in sites but i found only in english not in original if you have the original you can send me in Tube Message...
Could anyone write for me the lyrics down? I will be very grateful. :) Impatiently waiting for a message.

@1bzbz it sounds better when its chanted in greek, the language that it was created for. In english it ruins it
chooseit2 1 year ago
@chooseit2 This kind of thinking is absolutely Catholic and not Orthodox.
If the non-Greeks wrote their own hymns, you'd accuse them of not being Orthodox.
If they take the originals and simply sing them in your own language, you accuse them of ruining the hymn.
Why translate the Bible at all? The original scriptures read much better in Greek, I'm sure you'd agree.
Every Christian should be made to learn Greek, right?

@SovietHolyMan alright you've made your point about the orthodox churches,
but catholic and anglican?
orthodox is the true religion so why fuck it up by mixing it with other religions
and dont go on some bloody rant with stats
