I pause for a second before calling to Luucia, having her(?) perch on my hand/wrist and begin shouting at the door in draconic "Hello!, Greetings? Welcome perhaps!?"
well, I have a ritual called detect secrit doors. It may come in handy another time... But this is one big ass door. I'm sure there is a small one for works, moving in and out of the castle.
I say the Dragon's greeting to Luucia to see if she will help with the door. If not I make another perception check to see if anything has physically changed then an arcana check to see if it has any magical effect on the surrounding area and/or gargoyles.
Use a knowledge check on the history of the Draconic language in order to find a common greeting. Speak, in Draconic, the "Greeting" while the familiar is perched on my arm.
"A passphrase...?" I thought to myself. I didn't know the passphrase, I don't remember one nor can I find one on Zdravno's letter in case he had written one in code. After thinking for a little while I held out Luucia towards the door and asked, "Recognise her? If I wasn't Zdravno's friend, wouldn't Luucia be frightened of me?"
recalling the letter i think back to where it said speak a dragons greeting and say hello in Draconic . although i have no clue if i speak Draconic that part of the character sheet doesn't say but wizards generally do so lets hope and if i dont speak it make an intelligence check to see if i recall my mentor ever speaking of a dragons greeting or of greetings in the draconic language if i am calling for any incorrect mechanics i apologize i play 3.5e
I should obviously say "the dragon meeting" with my familiar in my hand. I'd like to use my knowlege of the arcane arts, the history of this world, and various religions to see if the phrase 'dragon greeting' is familiar to me.
Awesome intro! I felt really tense as I approached the master's home. Great soundtrack!
I try an Insight check to see if I can remember anything that my master would have used as the passphrase. Since I was his pupil, there's a chance that he might have taught it it to me in his teachings, like some sort of riddle for me to solve when the time comes. Wise masters are always doing that with their students.
By the way, what software do you use to make your world maps and music?
@KeeperOfTheLore Insight really doesn't have anything to do with memory. Insight is the skill of reading between the lines, and gleaning somebody's motives. You make an Insight check after reading over the letter. Your result is 14. Zdravno's writing is full of desperation. As well, you get the sense that he is intentionally try to be obscure in his choice of words. As if he is worried some adversary might be watching, and thus he cannot reveal information directly.
@clownkingdon You ask Luucia, "Do you know anything about the password?". Luucia cocks her head, as if studying you. She squawks and lightly flaps her wings, as if encouraging you forward.
deffanetly snatch one of the tourches before going in it may be dark in there but dont touch it till after the door opens also perception to see if the gargoiels are the monster or just statues. im a humanwith no tourch in a dark forest? yes take the tourch!
@clownkingdon Your knowledge of the arcane tells you that everburning sconces are built into the wall. Removing one is the same as breaking it off, thus ruining it (not to mention, would require some tremendous physical effort). However, with your cantrip "light" you are never without a source of illumination.
You study the gargoyles without getting too close. Your Perception result is 11. As far as you can tell, they are just statues.
It sounds like the answer is the Dragon's Greeting... so I would say 'Greetings' in draconic...
...
Unless there is a specific word that constitutes as a dragons greeting in the language. Maybe a history check to see if there were any other words or a phrase that was known as a dragon's greeting. I dunno, like breathing fire?
Well, I think "fugol in folme" is the password wanted by this magic door. My master's familiar directly looked for me, and I don't think the fear made my master so crazy that he wrote an absurdity. No, it is a key for the search. And now it is the very good time to try to speak it.
I have examined the note and I believe the last line in the note is a clue to his location now.(he says he is fleeing) Fugol is a bird, and it says speak with the fugol. So either we ask his familiar the password or we speak with a bird later to find his current location....hmmm.....Im going to ask the bird.."what is the dragons greeting"? If that doesnt work I'll have my familiar ask it (arcane familiar)
Make an arcana check to see if he can get any kind of clues from the letter. if it ends up having to do with the "dragon's greeting" part, say "Hello" or something of the like, in Draconic, if he is fluent in the language. (BTW Esper, it might be important to note the languages he is fluent in, in this case.)
I believe that xxstemwulfxx has a good idea, but perhaps a retreat is in order as to collects one's thoughts and make multiple attempts without pissing of the door knocker.
I would try to bluff check the knocker to see if I may be able to trick it into letting me in. Although if that does not work I'd inspect the letter further.
I think I'll try to remember the pass phrase if it was told to me before. Certainly my mentor would have told me what it was since I am his apprentice. That is unless he didn't really tell me and left me only clues to figure it out myself.
I would make an arcana check on the note from the wizard mentor to see if any of the words or phrases have any magic meaning or properties that could be the password. More specifically the last line of the note where the dragon's greeting is mentioned.
@XxStenwulfxX I agree, I would suggest trying a nature check to see if Lucia can communicate with us what the password is. There is a chance that Lucia was with Zedraveno when he cast the enchantment on the door/ entered his keep (that is unless the door recognises Zedraveno for who he is...Dundundun!). I was also wondering what our bluff skill bonus is. It may sound crazy, but we could possibly cast light (in hopes that this confuses the door knocker and the gargoyle).

Once light is cast we could then claim to be Zadravenos (Considering that Lucia is with us and that we are a wizard) we may stand a chance if we roll incredibly high on our bluff.
@XxStenwulfxX You study the letter, particularly the last line. Your Arcana result is 18. You can't discern any words that have magical meanings in and of themselves. "Fugol" and "folme" have a distinct sound though, as if coming from some older vocabulary.
