I've seen Justin better than this using Ryu, against very good opposition. He was probably un-nerved by Daigo's reputation.

He seems to lose confidence in his abilities when playing some opponents, the same happens with KOF.

Daigo went to the states in 1998(?) and fought Valle for world champion title, and Valle played with Ryu against Daigo's Gouki and it surprisingly close.

Daigo then took up Ryu since Valle showed to him he was a viable character.
