  • If your looking into joining the military to pay for college your better off going national guard or reserves.

You can get 75%-100% scholarship depending on the state you serve in, the gi bill, and the gi bill kicker. With the amount of benefits you receive from these three programs it is more than enough to cover tuition. You can also apply for pell grants and federal loans to help cover cost of living.

  • For those who don't know, things have been in motion for years to transfer GI Bill benefits to the family members (wife, child) if the servicemember decided to do so. Not ALL veterans/activate duty/reserve want to go to college. At the time the servicemember joins they are promised $50k(roughly.) They are also not informed that college tuition rates are rising faster than inflation. The current GI Bill is getting further and further behind the curve.

  • If you are going to school right now, the GI Bill will not save you from a heavy bundle of loans. By the time a servicemember's child goes on to college, the cost of college may be crippling even with student loans.

McCain wants people to stay in so that he has a force to wage war with. If he gets into office, we will be fighting a war on three fronts: Iraq, Afghanistan, and...Iran.

And our economy will be further in the toilet than it is now.

  • As an Army Brat, and proud of it, and as someone who has worked for the Department of Defense for more than 3 decades...I feel strongly that any American who is posted to a combat environment should receive a GI Bill that will provide monies to attend a four-year institution, and a special, low-interest government sponsored loan for graduate school.

  • thats because you're a tard

  • thats because you're a tard

    ---

No. You are wrong. I have been tested and I am not. Furthermore, unlike you, I actually know how to spell the word. So whatever level of intelligence I have , it is above yours.

  • tard

  • Uh huh.. your level of intelligence reduces you to single words that you cannot spell right.

  • McCain doesn't know what this guy's talking about! LOL We don't need another dumb president people, vote for Obama.

  • St. Joseph,MI - City Manager Frank Walsh and the Housing Commission Board actually voted yes for a satellite company to install satellite TV service at the St. Joseph Housing Commission at the Lake View Terrace high rise.

Its a good day in the Little Cuba section of St. Joseph. Veterans and senior citizens will be able to order pay TV.

  • I cant wait until the debate! People have GOT TO see how McCain ducks and dodges questions, rudely interrupts people, and has a serious anger problem that most of us wouldnt get away with in our jobs. I hold my president to the same ethics the rest of America follows!

  • I don't really love McCain but I am probably going to vote for him. However, his stand on veterans bothers me.

  • Why, may i ask are you going to vote for him?

  • Why, may i ask are you going to vote for him? ---

Sure. Because the thing that I hate about him is that he is too much like the democrats. But they are even more so. Its a lesser of two evils.

  • Either you're dictionary is misleading you on the meaning of evil and/or lesser, or you are not politically literate. Sending people to an unwinnable war time and time again and not supporting their goals and recovery is EVIL.

  • ither you're dictionary is misleading you on the meaning of evil and/or lesser, or you are not politically literate.

    ---

***Neither of those is true, so your dichotomy is certainly false. (thats a logical error in case you did not know)

Sending people to an unwinnable war time and time again and not supporting their goals and recovery is EVIL.

    ---

***I think you are getting way too emotional. Your sentence did not even make sense. It is irrelevant to current activities.

  • It is relevant because there is an election coming up, and people like you are ignoring the facts. Damn right I'm emotional. people are dying because war profiteers just never seem to have enough money...Do you know what a war profiteer is? Can you tell me why we're in this war? Can you tell me who voted to put us there? Can you find a correlation between the cost of war and our factual recession that the Cons deny.

F this! meet me at the play-ground and stock up on band-aids.

  • Maybe it irrelevant, but it WAS, YOU who brought it up.

    I am ignoring no facts.

The reasons you give for your emotional responses are incorrect.

Yes, I can tell you why we're in this war... but first you must explain which war you are referring to.

Historically the only correlation between wars and the economy are positive -- that is war leads to a better economy.

    You are a child.

  • Pick a war and stop dodging the issues.

Historically yes, wars have improved economies...so what gives this time? Its the war profiteers, and I repeat, Do you know what a war profiteer is????

Yes, i am a child, my thirteenth birthday was yesterday and I'm still more informed than you are.

Why do you block out the truth? You're not one of those people who don't believe dinosuars existed, are you?

  • Pick a war and stop dodging the issues.

    ---

Mexican War. What issues did you want to discuss?

  • Historically yes, wars have improved economies...so what gives this time?

    ---

Well, the attacks on 9/11 threw uncertainty into the markets. Markets HATE uncertainty. Then the war in Iraq also threw uncertainty into the markets. Finally the dotcom bubble and then the housing bubbles created and then destroyed equity overnight. These things make the economy uncertain.

It is actually a miracle that we have not had a recession.

  • Its the war profiteers

    ---

***Nonsense. They are not a factor.

and I repeat, Do you know what a war profiteer is????

    ---

***I know what they are and I know who they are. What I know is not the same thing as what conspiracy theorists imagine that they know.

  • Yes, i am a child, my thirteenth birthday was yesterday and I'm still more informed than you are.

    ---

You are not more informed than I am, but I do not debate with children.

  • Why do you block out the truth? You're not one of those people who don't believe dinosuars existed, are you?

    ---

I do not block out truth and dinosaurs are irrelevant to the conversation.

  • not really irrelevant. Either you believe things that are proven or you believe what others tell you to.

At this point I am assuming that you are actually a liberal trying to make republicans look stupid. Mission accomplished, keep up the good work.

  • not really irrelevant. Either you believe things that are proven or you believe what others tell you to.

    ---

***No one has ever told me that didn't exist. So again, this is irrelevant.

At this point I am assuming that you are actually a liberal trying to make republicans look stupid. Mission accomplished, keep up the good work.

    ----

    ***You are just a child.

  • Why vote for the lesser of two evils, when you can vote for a candidate outside the traditional paradigm? There are other candidates out there that want actual change for this country, and are standing upon the traditional values of the Constitution; Not standing on more war, more taxes, socialism, fascism, more centralization of govt., etc.

  • Why vote for the lesser of two evils, when you can vote for a candidate outside the traditional paradigm?

    ---

Let me correct then. Lesser of 5 evils.

  • Does this man ever give a straight answer? He talks in circles trying to hide the fact that he really couldn't care less. His name should be McShame. At least Obama supported the bill.

  • St. Joseph,MI City Manager Frank Walsh banned the Veterans and low income residents at the St. Joseph Housing Commission from cable TV. If St. Joseph does let residents at the Housing Commission order pay TV the channels will be controlled by the city and they won't be able to order the packages they want. It's like 'Little Cuba'.

Call Frank Walsh at 269-983-5541 and tell him to lift the cable TV ban.

  • McCain thinks the GI bill is too generous for US troops? Because he thinks they would abandon the military in favor of college. How does that make logical sense. Most join the military because of college in the first place.

  • This is terrible. I probably won't be able to go to college when I get out because I have a family and need to support them. If you get a job, you're automatically barred from full-time benefits - which are half of what you get normally.

I spent 8 months in Iraq. None of these people care about us. McCain, Obama, Bush...none. Sometimes I think about just staying overseas.

  • I understand your frustration but Obama is the one who supported the new G.I. Bill. McCain wanted to kill it in the Senate because it was "too generous" to our troops. he actually said that with a straight face. Obama also supported the bill that would've increased healthcare benefits for all veterans. This bill was killed in the Senate with the help of McCain.

If you want some real change, vote Obama 08'.

  • Okay, you didn't pay attention. I'm a veteran. My friends are dead, more of my friends will die and will not stop until we leave. I also have friends who live in Iran. All of these men want to send us there to get their oil and smite their economy. If you think I'm alone in thinking this, you're wrong.

I understand I joined and I have a job to do. But my job is to protect America from the bad guys, not make new ones. BTW; my friend, PO2 Okon, in Afghanistan told me Obama treated them like shit.

  • yeah, there is still a long way to go. Obama may be just like the rest, but look at his votin record, and if your still not happy vote for Nader or Paul, but don't give up on voting because it is the only little power we have. yeah elections might be fixed anyways, but what if their not?

Thank you for serving and please keep speaking the truth because we rarely hear about the soldiers against the desicions of this administration.

speak out. Iknow you've already done so much, but we need you.

  • You do not have power to vote. You are a child. The reason that children do not have the power to vote is that they are deemed to lack sufficient independent judgment.

  • I'm a child? Why is that? What makes you think I can't make an independent decision? I made a decision that I'm not going to vote for these major candidates because I don't like their flip-floppery, if you can deem that a term.

  • I'm a child? Why is that?

    ---

I was talking to someone else.... unless this is a sock account.

  • My bad. Your reply was under my post so YouTube emailed me with it labeled as a reply.

  • That is strange because it shows here as definitely under freelove4me.

  • So you know:

McCain placed more than 100 American troops in Iraq into deadly danger as he used them for human body sheilds as he strolled around a Baghdad market. If any had died, it would have been his fault.

McCain has publicly stated the reason he is against benefits for our troops is because they won't stay in the military.

McCain received a grade of D from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America

McCain recieved a 20 percent vote rating from the Disabled Veterans of America

  • McCain is a disgraceful flip flopper

  • Ugh, he's almost as hard to listen to as Bush

  • macarion, a McCain/Robertson ticket could only get elected to the AARP. McCain thinks that improving the GI Bill would hurt retention? That is all kinds of horse shit. The only reason I joined the Army was for the GI Bill, I could stayed in the hood if i wanted to risk getting my head blown off

  • McCain is a senator with a rich wife. He doesn't care about service men and women that he sends to die. That is less money he'll have to spend on the gi bill. We just lost soldiers in Afghanistan and over 4,000 in Iraq, but this guy thinks he owes you nothing.

    OBAMA 08!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3/2006: McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical services $1.5 billion in FY2007

3/2004: McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical care by $1.8 billion.

10/2003: McCain voted to TABLE an amendment for $322,000,000 for safety equipment for USforces. "Table"= vote never hits floor.

10/2003: McCain voted to TABLE a vote for $1 Billion for National Guard and Reserve Equipment in Iraq dueto:shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, & tactical vests.

  • I'm a veteran and I'm supporting Obama. I don't understand why would you vote for McCain veterans/troops?

5/2008: McCain voted AGAINST the Webb GI Bill.

9/2007: McCain voted AGAINST bill to minimize periods of time between deployment of units sent to Iraq.

5/2006: McCain voted AGAINST $20 Million to VA for health care facilities.

4/2006: McCain voted AGAINST $430,000,000 to VA for Medical Services.

  • You stupid person you. What an ignorant statement that had nothing to do with the video.

  • As I said macarion you are stupid. Your statements keep proving my point. Take some advice. Better to let people think you are a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are crackin' me up. Unintelligent people always resort to cursing someone because their small mind doesn't know what else to say LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Keep making a spectacle of yourself. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the real representative of McCain I must say. You both have the same temper. Oh by the way please tell me what McCain's experience is? I bet cha' can't LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah he learned how to do nothing. He learned how to vote against troops/veterans but still get a check from the VA. He learned how to say he has experience because he's been in Washington for 26 years, but can't tell any of us what his experience is as you couldn't either.

  • I think I've come to a new conclusion...most everyday average americans who don't have any family ties to the military don't give a fuck about the troops. Notice when that brave man asked his question nobody clapped at all, almost as if they were thinking to themselves "why the fuck did he have to ask that for?" but as soon as this old piece of shit opens his mouth and sends along his FAKE graditude they all choose to clap. It's fucking pathetic!

  • So true

  • as one of those evreyday americans that really does not know a soldier...those soldiers join the miltary out of free choice if they did not like the benafits then don't join...the united states has not really fought a war/conflict that they really needed to for many decades...i think the death benafit of 500k should be raise to 5million though make it expensive to kill off a soldier...48k in college benafits for 4 years is not bad...so a soldier has to earn 5k a year at a part time job?

  • what McCain is not understanding people stay in the service because they simply think its the best option for them, like they recently got married and wanted to have kids.. but i can tell you that soldiers are going to leave the service ragardless of what the GI-bill rate is... rarely has there been a soldier that decided purely upon the rates of the GI-Bill. I got out because I already set out a plan to only serve for 4 years and no more, I dont care about the GI-bill much.

  • so... McCain wants people to server LONGER in the military so they DESERVE the benefits? WHAT THE FUCK!? McCain FAILS.

  • he said he want to reward the miltary personal that stay in longer with better benafits...there is no magic dollar benafit that is right ...so 12k a year is not enuf? what so great about 17k?...well why not make it 100k a year? a million a year good? reasonable people can disagree on appropiate benafits...what is your magical number? since you seem so confident to disagree...

  • ummm..ok..thats just it tho..he DID NOT answer the question??! did u not pick that up??

  • mccain explain that he wanted longer service for a increased benafit to hold retention...which question from that 2minute plus statement/question/rant did he not answer?

  • Another Vet at another vet asked similar questions. McCain has been called on the fact that he's flat out lied in TWO events about having the highest ratings on his voting record by "every" veterans organization. Several give him very low ratings, and ratings LOWER than those given Obama.

  • McCain is crazy as sh--! And what a LIAR! Ole geezer.

  • Come on dude, at least try to stay credible.

McSame was against the new GI bill cause he said it would encourage people to leave citing a study that said the same number that would leave would also be recruited because of the tuition increases.

McSames an asshole for going against that bill then touting that "we" got it passed when he wouldn't even VOTE on it.

    His vet accolades SUCK too.

  • Holy shit, what a bitter motherfucker. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if this stupid nation (excluding troops and logical people a.k.a. UNrepublicans, lol) votes in another cheap bastard as president. Peace, man.

  • He's so full of it, Bill Gillespie down in GA-1 is running for congress and one of his top concerns is veteran issues and he's fighting for us unlike McSame.

  • God, is he pure evil or just stupid?

  • Both, just like Bush.

  • The retention excuse is a bunch of crap, I was an Army Ranger I can tell you the main reason why highly trained experienced guys get out is because: THEY ARE GOING TO GET OUT NO MATTER WHAT ANYWAYS...

Also, when you have contractors like Blackwater dishing out tens of thousands of dollars for 6 months of work wouldn't that be an even bigger threat to retention? Gee, I can work for blackwater, do what I want with no rules, do what I alread know how to do and rake in the case??

    McBullshit...

  • McBullshit

  • What sadly nobody is talking about is that if retention drops, while recruitment rises, you get a less experience military on average. That means more casualties, and works in the exact opposite direction that the US military is going. I think that is McCain's point on the bill (well that and don't forget the deficit).

  • It has been discussed. The reduction in retention has been estimated to drop from 42% to 36%. It can be argued the significance of this drop, but if we are going to shoot down a bill like this based on 6% drop in retention, consider this statement on retention from the Marine Corps:

"The Marine Corps endeavors to attain and maintain stable retention patterns. However, lucrative civilian employment opportunities abound for Marines and challenge the retention of critical skills."

  • Your points are well taken. However, the Webb bill's incentives will improve the quality of new recruits and I believe that will offset your concerns with regard to experience.

  • Sen. Warner has agreed to amend the Webb bill to provide transferability to dependents. Furthermore, look at the following stats for student loan burden after degree completion:

    4yr veteran, McCain bill: $20,000

    4yr veteran, Webb bill: $0

    12yr veteran, McCain bill: $5,000

    12yr veteran, Webb bill: $0

    30yr veteran, McCain bill: $5,000

    30yr veteran, Webb bill: $0

McCain is full of crap with his sliding-scale. He simply punishes the 4 and out guys!

  • McShame. Wow. He just doesn't give a FU**!

  • yes...Mcshame wants force this young men and women to stay in the military as long as possible. If they only serve a "few" years then they should not be rewarded?? What?

  • doesnt matter they voted to kill the graham, mccain, burr bill in the senate. and it is already on the back of the emergency supplemental..

  • Why is this guy telling it to McSame he doesn't care at all

  • Sen. John McCain and the Pentagon have voiced their opposition to the bipartisan Webb-Hagel GI Bill by spouting fears that "too many will use it," and it will therefore "harm" the military.

A new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report analyzing the impact of the GI Bill shows that troop retention will decline because some troops will take advantage of their new education benefits, the loss in retention will be entirely made up for by increased military recruits.

  • Supporters of McCain's bill have also said Webb's bill will be too difficult to administer because it gives GI Bill payments directly to the school all at once. However, that is how a majority of federal student loans are dispursed, as a lump sum in the beginning of the semester. This is actually an advantage.

  • GI Bill payments are currently payed on a monthly basis. What the hell is the point of monthly payments? It's no wonder why people receiving benefits don't complete a semester; tuition is due at the beginning of the semester, but their payments are monthly!

  • I am the Marine who posed this question to Sen. McCain. After seeing my statement I just want to clarify the last portion of my question since the crowd was getting unruly that I was taking so long. First, I owe $70,000 in student loans, not $7,000.

  • And when I quoted him at a VFW meeting, the correct quote from Sen. McCain is, "How veterans of previous wars are treated is directly related to our ability to recruit the finest of Americans to serve in our Nations military." I then stated, "79% of the military does not have a diploma." That was incorrrect, the correct statement is, "79% of new Army recruits do not have a diploma, and 15% of new Army recruits have a criminal waiver."

  • History has shown increases in education benefits do not adversely affect retention. Sen. Webb's bill, by providing an adequate education, will increase the number of QUALITY recruits who enlist.

  • Geez, correction, "ONLY 79% of new Army recruits have a diploma." The DoD goal is >90%.

  • Thank you for standing up, and out.

  • God bless you and everyone who serves with you, sir. Thank you for posing this important question to Sen. McCain.

  • Sens. Clinton and Obama are co-sponsors of Dan Webb's bill, S-22, the bipartisan 21st Century GI Bill of Rights, which has 57 Senate cosponsors and is endorsed by all major military and veterans' associations but is opposed by the Pentagon and VA...and Sen. McCain who supports Sen. Lindsey Graham's S 2938.

""The biggest difference, however, between our bill and the Webb bill is transferability," Graham said, Webb's bill has no incentive to keep members in service.
