  • I heard rumors that patients were sucked out of the windows of the hospital by the tornado. Is there any truth to this?

  • @booboo19751 I highly doubt that most hospitals when severe weather is near will move patients out into the hallways. I know they done that when I have been in the hospital before. From what I heard only victims in the hosptial were those on life support after power got knocked out and then there was a visitor who was killed. Other then that no one got sucked out the windows that I have heard of

  • Looks like the aftermath of a nuclear attack. Terrible.

  • Where is the video of Mike Bettes in Joplin like 5 or 10 minutes after the tornado left and then some guy gives the camera the middle finger?

  • Joplin will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

  • i miss my home

  • this is heart breaking.

  • Was the Jewish part of Joplin hurt ?

  • Damn... I dont blame Mike for cryin... houses destroyed, bloody bodies layin in the street... Goddamn, its too much!!

  • Amazing to think that in the US there a millions upon millions watching idiotic videos such as "Ginger" about kids with red hair, how retarded is that?

  • Human beings, are to a great extent, influencing global climate change and new patterns. So what lies behind America's resistance to acceptance and action? The lobbying power of industries, and right wing talk radio, resist acknowledgement of climate change's impact. The airwaves are filled with corporate financed climate misinformation. We are 2 decades behind in taking action because both parties are in thrall to Big Coal and Big Oil. Our time is getting short, and the stakes are high.

  • well just to let you all feeble minded humans know "" we have the technology to drop the Sears Tower into the ground as long as we have space for it" this is how much technology we have at our disposal !!

  • I LIVE IN JOPLIN...and survived the tornado!

There is a video of the ACTUAL tornado that hit us here in Joplin, MO

it is on youtube titled Raw Video: Killer tornado rakes Joplin Mo

  • Great. Just another town turned into a wasteland.

  • watch my new video about the Joplin dog tornado survivor at my channel

called The Dog from Joplin and the EF5 Monster Tornado May 2011

  • Why don't they attempt to build tornado-proof buildings?

  • @zck7 short of every building being underground there is just no way.

  • @zck7

the main reason is not financing it is the insurance industry they need people to have devastation for it is good business, messed up, but true!!

  • Google "9/11 Nukes - Radiation-induced cancers"

  • Mike Bettes.....being a human before being a journalist.

  • While this is sad, USA military causes hundreds of times the amount of destruction and misery for human beings in Iraq and Afghanistan. Just to put it into perspective.

  • Thank you Mike for helping our community!

  • langlang87: At my door the FBI will not ring ... We dont have fascism like you in U.S. secret agents are unnecessary... We can say in public that the president is an idiot and that the government sucks ... can also tell the public that burn parliament ... because here we have common sense and everyone understands that I do not really ... and sorry for English. .. (Google)

  • @yetibiker08 Please respect the residents of Joplin, MO. The human suffering is unimaginable...lives changed forever. There is NOTHING thrilling about a killer tornado...nothing. If you've never lived it you cannot imagine the heartbreak, please show respect.

  • @singmetosleep29

the end is near and this is nothing and when if comes you wont even remember this!!

  • @yetibiker08 We do you dumb mother fucker! the people who live in Missouri i hope you die a fucking slow and painful death! hell ill kill u my self!!! Just try me!

  • @crowdergirl101

death is what we all seek little puny human

  • @crowdergirl101

so you are on here for ??? People to feel sorry for your loss?? For you? Poor thing!! Man these chicken wings are the bomb....so delish....

  • @crowdergirl101

such anger...young one....such pain...such suffering...Satan will set you free if you let him.....

  • @yetibiker08 I am angry its retarded and Satan has died and gone to hell as well as his followers and every one who has no sadness for what has happened here. It is a misfortune and everyone will be greatly missed check out Tornado Victims 2011 on Facebook if you have one you will see just the severity of the tornado. hell this man came home to his house collapsed on top of his wife and his 18 month old son, he tried to help them and by the time he got help and they arrived both were dead. :-(

  • @crowdergirl101

Yeah being angry fuels ones inspiration to find a solution, so what is your solution? Nature is nature that is all and yes lives come an go and even if they are infants but we all have " a choice" we relocate to another part of the country avoiding these awesome forms of nature or we work in harmony with the land and build something that can withstand such power. Amen

  • alki1010 i agree

  • Hey Joplin community, Australia here sending my love and prayers to you all, can't imagine what you went thorugh. Thinking of you all, keep strong.

  • This video makes me tear up a bit. You can see the emotion in the way we walks, the sadness in his eyes. You can hear the breaking of his heart when he speaks and the compassion when he asked that person if they were ok. He forgets about his job and wants to do everything to help people. What a great guy.

  • @TheHalogrl90

yawn....sniff..sniff...yawn...sigh...yawn.. the football match is on cool I can leave this sobby drama of idiocy and go watch Man United vs Barcelona now that is worth tearing up on...

  • I love you ,Mike Bettes.

  • @ChineseGAM

    Yeah he is so cute

  • About how it looks in Iraq after the bombing of your Holy USAF ... ooh thank you mighty nature ! The innocent loss is so sad...I hope you have the same compassion as well as citizens in Iraq ...:) If I was a tornado, "I will destroy the White House and Pentagon" ... unfortunately it fell on the ordinary people ...:/

  • @Pobikk might wanna watch out bout sayin u gonna destroy the white house and pentagon..next thing you know the feds will be at ur door..and most of what you said makes no sense

  • @Pobikk

    You got a point dude!

  • Comment removed

  • Consider... Joplin MO F6 tornado debris field height 8 miles, 2 miles wide 120 miles downwind Houston MO

  • @loujan55

Hey man we had an F-20 in our town and it was a thousand miles wide duuuuuuuuude and our tents held up maaaaannnnnn duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudde! Man this hash is strong............sheeeeeeeeeeet daaaaaamn duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude

  • Respond to this video...

Well at least the tornado hit the crappy parts of Joplin like the trailer parks can they guide the thing next time and swallow up all the trailer parks in the Satan Belt ....uhhh...I mean the Bible Belt, same thing!!

  • @yetibiker08 Um it kind of hit the hospital?! thats not the crappy part of Joplin.

  • thats not even remotely true

  • @MrGhostblood shut the hell up..people going threw hard time and you gonna post crap like that, god is gonna get you big time for that and you can bet on that punk

  • @langlang87

    bbooooooooooo....hhooooooooo..bboooooooooo...sniff..sniff..yawn...scratching my arse now...boring

  • Looks "shovel-ready" to me. Check out all that economic stimulus! I think that, for the second time in her adult life, Michelle Obama is proud of her country. I thought Barack was so amazingly powerful for Cash for Clunkers; for stuff like this:

    watch?v=waj2KrKYTZo

but even I have to admit now that even Barack is a mere piker compared to our Progressive Queen Mother Nature. Too bad the rest of fly-over country can't be reduced to rubble like that, as they cling to their Bibles and their guns.

  • the dude in the video thinks the event just happened! anyone tell him anything? no no one is in those cars still lol

  • @sownzgr8 It DID just happen, dumbass. The Weather Channel team were some of the first on scene and went around checking for survivors and injured instead of taking a live "Look at all the destruction" feed like the alphabet channels did. Pay attention to the news once in awhile before you make another asinine comment.

  • @Vulcanrider58 Just happened?! Where's the wind? Think a little.

  • @sownzgr8 you are a moron. i watched this unfold live. there was a tornado warning in my area St. Louis that evening so i had it on the weather channel the whole time. these guys chase tornadoes. its what they do.

  • @dontdrinkthec00laid Video title: "The Weather Channel's Mike Bettes Arrives in Joplin"

Your hero reads teleprompters for a living. You watch tv .. impressive. Who's the moron? LOL!

  • @sownzgr8 Who's the moron? Just look in the mirror. If Mike's reading the teleprompter, was he PROMPTED to break down into tears? Was he PROMPTED to show real emotion? Was he PROMPTED to look for victims BEFORE doing the live report? Were you even aware of this: If Mike and his crew hadn't stopped due to the heavy rain and hail hitting their vehicle, they would've been in Joplin when the tornado hit! Mike knew The Man Above had watched over them. My heart to all victims of recent tornadoes!

  • @OddballExtreme You are the moron and don't crack your mirror by looking into it. Dude just because a man cries doesn't change his career! Holly sheisters you don't think too clearly. Caio.

  • @sownzgr8 I never said it was going to change his career, dufus. I guess you weren't aware that both HLN and CNN showed that raw and real emotion, which is something you severely lack anyway. Guess you also didn't know Anderson Cooper interviewed Mike the next night. Mike's already back to tornado chasing and knows he has to move on. He's already a hero for showing real emotion, and perhaps with this research, tornado warning lead times could be up to ONE HOUR in the future, saving more lives.

  • @OddballExtreme Dummy, you said: "If Mike's reading the teleprompter,"

(which he does for a living .. err its his career ...as I said).

"was he PROMPTED to break down into tears?"

and this last part doesn't make sense no matter how you decipher it. That's enough to show me whom I'm dealing with here - IQ wise at least. So excuse me if I decifer something that stupid wrongly in your eyes.

I frankly don't give a crap how CNN or anyone shows raw emotion nor some no name interviewer.

  • @OddballExtreme "He's already a hero for showing real emotion"

    Seek help.

  • @sownzgr8 Hey dumb ass. Did you happen to see the lightning in the distance? How about the car thats lights are still on in a pile of cars? How long do you thing a running cars battery would last? Youre a fucking dick. Im almost sure youve never even seen a funnel come down from the sky. Im from Texas ass hole and Ive had to un-bury people I knew from rubble. Piss the fuck off!

  • @dannyo009 Einstein, the tornado hit the previous night, hours before the dummy in the video arrived. Since when does lightning = tornado? Lightning can easily be from a simple thunder storm. A car light can shine for hours depending on battery strength light wattage etc. Your comments are weak on every level and dead wrong. The tornado hit hours before your hero arrived.

  • @sownzgr8 If you were smart enough to watch the Weather Channel in the first place, you'd know that cloud-to-ground lightning strikes CAN happen near the stronger tornadoes. Don't believe me? Try Fox 6's coverage of the massive Birmingham tornado last month with real lightning included. As for claiming the tornado hit Joplin the previous night, the SPC's storm reports for that day will prove you wrong. Next time, do your homework before making such stupid remarks.

  • @OddballExtreme I'm smart enough to know that teacher. Next lesson? The original reports said the tornado hit Joplin "at night" So when I seen this video of daylight, I assumed the dude showed up the next morning. Only aftger scouring various websites did I find out that it hit Joplin at around 5:30, which is almost more late afternoon, not night. But regardless, it still appears your hero wasn't exactly first to respond. So he still looks like an idiot.

  • @sownzgr8 At least he was there to respond to those victims and try to help out where he could. Where were you? Oh yeah, making ignorant comments on youtube. Do you have any plans to help those people out? I bet not...because you're too busy on...you guessed it...youtube.

  • @Hannai24 Really! Who did he help? Ratings? I probably helped more than him simply by not attracting attention from people actually trying to help. I helped as much as you - a big fat zero, but given a chance by passing by like he did, maybe I'd surprise you. Pick better heroes.

  • Here is video I took (I am from Joplin):

    /watch?v=g9ZTq4_agmE

That is shot right down the road from where this video was shot. Please thumbs up so others can see. Thanks guys. Joplin appreciates all of the help.

  • omg

  • @PungChongTiong723 LoL !! i love meat, i love it all kinda... i cant live without meat.... i love meat !!! its food of mine !!! i hate veggies lol :D and spinat :P

  • The only positive: In that part of the country most houses have basements, and people are taught from an early age to go there when a storm approaches.

Anything like that ever happens on the east coast, we will lose A LOT more people, because they have no where to go.

  • LOOK UP HAARP!! GOVT CONTROLLED WEATHER

  • This is punishment for all the war atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • @niteowlification No it is not, I will tell you, The USA has always been the most blessed nation on earth. What is happening is God is slowly taking his hand off of us because we have kicked God out of everything. Just look at what is happening all over the world. This was not going on 30 years ago...When I was in high school, in 1978 our English teacher would read of a bible verse each morning. I will never forget Ms Sylkes.

  • @1969pontiac1 I know you will not agree with this, but what your English teacher was doing was illegal unless you went to a private religious school or it was being done outside of regular class. You are of course free to practice your religion of choice on your own time, but it should not be forced upon people. Our nation was founded on religious freedom, which also includes the freedom to believe in non-Christian religions, and even no religion at all.

  • @JKavalier76 No, I really agree with you. This was like 1974 or so, I was raised in church and just thought it was neat and it has always stuck with me. She should not have done that I guess, but in the South, back then people were maybe not as vocal about such things, maybe they were and I was just 14. But no religion should be forced on anyone. I believe what i do, I think you would respect that, just as I would what ever you believe or if you did not believe. I was Hot over some of comments

  • @1969pontiac1

This has nothing to do with GOD puny human it has everything to do with "people and choices"!! Poor choices lead to what is going on not GOD!!

  • @yetibiker08 I have seen some of your comments on here, I not going to bring my self to your level. I feel sorry for you. Take a look at yourself, if see if you do not want to make some changes. All I was saying, we have always been the most blessed nation on earth. Look, things are happening all over the world.. not just the US.. bad things..You do not have to resort to calling people names and talking about storms hitting trailer parks, they are loved by God as anyone else.

  • @1969pontiac1

Have you seen the Matrix God Campaigner ?? The "blue" or the "red" pill. One is a reality pill the other is living in a dream world oblivious to ones surroundings and most of all "the truth"!!! It is 2011, 11 years into the 2000's and we , America, are supposed to be an example to the World of "wise technology" but this is only with NASA and the US Military.. Religion stems from Arrogance believing that we are special and have the power to over rule all other creatures.

  • @yetibiker08

This happens probably because it's the only thing that turn many people to God personally. It takes tragedy to see how lucky we are...our country is in serious jeopardy. This also happens to make us open our eyes. It sure has for me.

  • @SuperPatsu

This will keep happening and there is no malicious intent here what so ever for we "choose" this through our own designs and it is up to us to change not GOD or JESUS or BUDDHA or SATAN or any other deity. We, the human race, have the capacity to "change" but continue to blame GOD or SATAN as the outlet of our sufffering. There are many alternatives to the way we live what are your values people "lives" or "that cool house" with the plasma TV and Pool? I vote for lives.....

  • @yetibiker08

I agree cause I believe it'll only get worse from here. To me, it's scary indeed, but also, it's a sign.

  • that's a brave man... i don't know if i'd have the nerve to discover a dead body

  • Yeah I've seen some doozy tornadoes in my time and this is by far one of the most destructive....

  • When even a seasoned meteorologist like Mike Bettes, who has pretty much seen EVERYTHING concerning severe weather, breaks down and cries on-camera upon seeing the destruction a storm caused, that's when you know that said storm was nothing short of terrifying.

124 people dead, 750+ injured, and 1,500+ missing... Yes, that was a horrible storm indeed. Thoughts and condolences to everybody who died from that tornado. Everybody stay safe.

  • The pic was on the front of one of the spanish mewspapers in spain. I remember Joplin during my military service. Real nice ppl out there. My condolences to victim's family.

  • @newtubetubetube You are trying to claim some moral high ground because some fools said that about Japan? You are no better. You are just some sort of sick scumbag, posturing to come off as being self-righteous when you just want to find an excuse to laugh at people who went through this.

You have a sickness in your soul. In many ways, you are worse off than the people who went through the disasters in Japan and Joplin.

  • @newtubetubetube BP was British you dumb ass...I sincerely hope you don't wake up tomorrow.

  • @bigshoewc said "BP was British you dumb ass...I sincerely hope you don't wake up tomorrow. "

BP is a global oil and gas company, the location of its headquarter is irrelevant. Also, its current CEO is an American. BP has operation on American soil and sold it oil to the American market. It was there, drilling hole, because of America's greed. The depiction of BP as a foreign company was a post-leak marketing campaign. You are a tool. Fuck you!

I did wakeup this morning. Aren't you mad? LOL.

  • Where is the sound?

  • How was this originally rated an F4?

You don't see a Weather Channel meterologist like Mike Bettes CRYING ON AIR unless he'd just witnessed something horrifyingly rare. Something that very few unlucky souls have ever seen. He has just witnessed annihilation.

This is the annihilation of an F5.

  • I have tons family in Joplin, luckily none of them suffered any damage to themselves or to their homes. But, There used to be old trees everywhere, it was a heavily forested region. Now the trees are just gone.

  • @vacantphilburt Yeah, Joplin is where you're getting pretty close to the Ozarks. It's heartbreaking. It's such a beautiful city. It honestly hurts me a lot because I've been down in Joplin so many times, and I've drove on Rangeline a lot too. I pray they get back on their feet asap.

  • @Brentsey - You are a very sick person ..... Even if you are joking, it is utterly morbid and shameless.

  • @Brentsey you want 200 dead??? why?

  • Why don't I have sound on this clip? I really wanted to listen to his report I heard he had a conflict of interest....either do his report or help people and he chose to help. Way to go :)

  • @ediles5 It does have audio its just VERY low.

  • I could not even begin to understand how demoralized those are that have been affected by this tragedy.

  • too bad glenn beck and rush limbaugh werent in town when this storm hit

  • @GayTexasBoy

Great way to turn something where people should be coming together into something that divides us. You are no better than they are.

  • fee lsad for Joplin, but Mike Bettes is soooo GAY here

  • That must have been harrowing to be one of the first to arrive on the scene. I can't even imagine how hard that was for mike and his crew.

  • Wow, I can't believe the damage there. This has 2 be an EF-5 because besides the hospital, there's literally nothing left but rubble. This shows that Mike is more than just a guy in a suit making a report. He has my respect. GO BRAVES.

  • I was born in that hospital. So sad

  • I like Dodgers and sorry for you people . . .

  • @SPS148669 you're a disgusting person.

  • @SPS148669 If people like you died instead of those in the storm, this world would be a better place.

  • @SPS148669 I love the yankees and you country.

  • @SPS148669 I love the yankees and you country. I am very sad for the peoples died in Joplin.

  • @SPS148669 I love the yankees and your country and I am very sad for the peoples died in Joplin. You are a bad man. Regards from Chile.

  • @Ezinck4730

    Successful troll is successful

  • @SPS148669

Troll, you are the one who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument. Ha ,Ha (dicciionary). Bye

  • @Ezinck4730

At least I adimt on my page!

  • @SPS148669

That was mean to troll a video like this. LoL

  • Love and prayers to everyone in Joplin. I called Joplin home for 7 years and this is just heartbreaking. I am so very sad for all of your losses. Kelley Murphy LPN Grad 1986

  • great reporting. such an emotional thing to see. watching you and that poor man looking for his neighbor...god bless you all. prayers go out to all!

  • And did anyone notice once he DID do the report, he could barely speak he kept choking up? Here is a REAL journalist. Who actually cares and has a heart about what he's reporting.

  • Why did it have to hit a major hospital

  • Hats off to Mike Bettes. You truly are a human being who cares more about people than your job. Seeing you looking for people in this video rather than going for a live broadcast speaks wonders on what type person you are.

The world could use more people like mike Bettes.

  • @Alki1010 i agree. this shows that mike has a good heart.

  • @Alki1010 Agreed. I watched this live on TWC website and it was heartbreaking to see this level of destruction so soon after it occurred. I was crying as Mike fall apart and pulled himself back together a couple different times and my heart goes out to those who lost their loved ones in Joplin. He received a lot of hostility from people for having a camera there, but I can only commend him for trying to help even through his shock.

  • @Gravija01

yeah my heart goes out to the squirrels, rabbits, mice, trees, shrubs, flowers, butterflies etc so so so sad =((

  • @Alki1010

HE GETS KUDOS FOR HELPING PEOPLE BUT HE IS DOING IT FOR THE NEW PROMOTION NOT FOR HUMANITY REASONS....WOMEN...CLUELESS! THE MORE COVERAGE HE GETS WITH HIM LOOKING TO HELP PEOPLE HIS BOSS IS SAYING "DUDE WAY TO GO AND GET GREAT COVERAGE" IF HE WAS HELPING PEOPLE THE CAMERA WOULD NOT BE RECORDING. DUHHHH!!

  • Jim Cantorre is pissed off he didnt get there first

  • @raw5069 Great post. It's extremely important. We can never predict or know when Jesus will return. It's unfortunate for the image of Christians that this guy made a big deal about the rapture, because many more people will just laugh at Christians like they're crazy, when in fact the rapture will occur, and we must get right with God right now!

  • @raw5069 They showed this journalist this morning on the Today Show and there was a video they showed of him where he just started to cry because of the sight. It really broke my heart when they showed his crying and immediately made me think of Isaiah 26: 3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee." It breaks my heart that they are lost souls. "But God commendeth his love towards us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

  • I watched this from the get go. The Weather Channel did an excellent job and It was streamed live on its site without the annoying commercials. Even at 8:30 CST the only major cable news reporting on this horrific event was CNN. MSNBC and FOX had their finger up their asses.

  • @stomp919 Well the weather channel is THE WEATHER CHANNEL for a reason, so it makes sense to report on this, and CNN doesn't have any good primetime programming, so it makes sense that they would show this coverage too. It's a horrific event, but the viewers watching Fox and MSNBC would be greatly disappointed if you cut out the political programs they look forward to, to show this instead. Good thing we have the weather channel to report on weather stuff.

  • Mike, you've done an amazing job as always.

  • @isocrate27

A true hero is ANYONE who makes an effort to protect and/or save; military, fire fighters, police, and ANY other human with compassion. Do you want to tell the fire fighters and volunteers of 9/11 that THEY aren't heros because they were doing interviews and weren't all anonymous? Go ahead, I dare you. See what kind of reaction you get.

  • @aflynn1980 They are true heroes because they didn't hire a cameraman following them around and reporting any given heroic moments. The ostentatious display of self has nothing heroic to me.

  • Stop trying to be Superman. So pathetic to film oneself being a hero. Reminds me of pathetic Anderson Cooper. True heroes don't show off. They die anonymously in war zones.

  • @isocrate27 They do?

  • Good job Michael. Your mom is real proud of you right now.

  • @sposdta how do u know? u gettin jiggy with her right now arent u

  • Thanks Mike. Finally a reporter we can all admire and respect. People first. Everything else is just details.

  • This is Mike Bettes single greatest moment. I will be his fan forever now. Thank God for him.

  • Yikes! I turned it off. I was afraid I'd see something I didn't want to see like in that infamous Russian air show disaster.

  • Joplin has 2 Hospitals. St Johns and Freeman. Both very busy facilities and I'm sure Freemans is over whelmed. I'm sure the whole town of Joplin is overwhelmed! Grateful all my family is OK!

Prayers for the Families of those that were lost :(

  • POBIKK I hope that you tube pulls your acct. What a jerk ! and you to JakeDaSnake Films, shouldn't even waste my time addressing you guys, YOU TUBE...............DO YOUR JOB AND REMOVE THESE KIND OF JERKS....

I WILL BE REPORTING YOU TODAY.........................

  • Some jerks think that four letter words make them look smart! It's also ashame that we still have stupid people in is world that need to express their selves this way. Hope you feel better, I'm sure these people will appreciate your four letter comments ???????

NOW DO YOU FEEL LIKE A BIG MAN !!!

  • These people need all the prayers and help that we can give ! this is the time for the White House to send aid. They don't even have a hospital to take care of the victims. Our prayers are with you ! From Texas

  • @Pobikk

You're an idiot. Wars nor god have anything to do with this.

  • I've never seen him so choked up before, but man he has a heart of gold. I never thought I would see another tornado like this again this year after what happened on April 27 :(

  • FROM OMAHA NEBRASKA WERE COMING TO HELP!

  • holy fuck........

  • @JakeDaSnakeFilms I know, what else can one say, hey?

But some moron above you is take offence and thinks they are gonna get you TOS deleted. Man there are losers freaks trolling something fierce.

  • @ItIsAllGoodMostly I take it my comment shows up as spam? I would really know what else to say, & that's basically what's happened there.. oh well....lol
