The viewing platform is a great idea, however they didn't account for the incredibly hot sun when designing. It's baking hot. You might want to wear sunscreen.
Great Job! I went to Folkston for 5 hours and caught 8 trains. Its a good spot even on slow days. You caught really good mixed power. When I went I caught mostly GEVO sets but I also caught some SD70Mac's SD40-2 and other CSX units.
Between 6-9 p.m. is when you can really get action.
I caught 9 trains in one hour one evening in August 2008 (between 8-9 p.m.). Needless to say I was rushing all over the place trying to get good shots.
Excellent vid!! I've never been to Folkston, but this past Sept, my wife and I were on vacation to GA/FL, and visited the civil war museum in Kennesaw (where the General is preserved). Just a few feet from the museum is a busy CSX line, that apparently goes from Atlanta to Chatanooga. It appears this would also be a great railfan spot.
i not sure but i think the 1st train is Q453 and the 3rd train is Q652 and in the background that 4th was probably E092. Great video by the way.

Yeah that got to be one of CSX's best K5H's
Caltrain927 2 years ago
Down my way you would see a lot of coalporter trains but mostly AC4400CW's and Dash8's and Dash9's pull them.

i went there before it's train heaven for railfanners

I am thinking about making a trip down to Folkston from Indiana, in what frame of time did these 5 trains come through. Say, like, 2 hours or so?
Thanks!
~Nick
Great video by the way! 5/5!

What is railfanning?
treytrey2946 3 years ago
Railfanning is the "art" of watching trains, chasing trains and living for trains. Most Railfans like to get many photos and videos of what they see.

3. Union Pacific
4. BNSF
5. Burlington Northern

I don't like CSX that much cause the signals do not ring the bells when the gates go up. That can be deadly for blind people.
BRYLON123456789 3 years ago
Oh, yes, of course. All of those blind drivers these days. As for pedestrians, that makes sense. But otherwise... really.

Woooo!!! Gotta love that K5HL on CSX #7580. :)
DaCaptain924 3 years ago
7580 has a regular K5H.
Caltrain927 3 years ago
Oops! You're right. lol K5HR (as in K5HR24) is what I was thinking, I guess. Sweet horn, though.
