  • Why does this person enjoy popularity?

  • クネクネしないで

  • multiple orgasim material right here fellaz. bravo !!

  • The speed at which he did the sixths chords in contrary motion was incredible. I've been trying to achieve that speed for a while now, and came o the conclusion that it was not possible for us mere human beings. Well, I suppose I was wrong. I'll have to keep trying now. It's actually quite reassuring that he can achieve that speed.

  • 0:16 ..and again...

  • i don't feel quite comfortable watching his facial expression but the piece was wonderfully played. scroll down the page and listen :)

  • Awesome~~

  • wonderful,what is his age?

  • I think Chopin ruined this song with the atrociousness between 2:33 - 2:55.

  • @ophelius111 1: This is NOT a song. I hear nobody singing. 2: This piece was not written to be the most beautiful thing we have ever heard - Etude means "study" which is to say, a piece to study and learn to improve one's technical ability. It just happens to be one of the most wonderful of his etudes to listen to and appreciate too - but if one went to a concert you'd be much more likely to hear this or op 25 no 1 (for example), than the octaves etude for example. (not writing off the octaves!)

  • i saw him perform at a symphony a while back; and the only words that came out of my mouth was AMAZING AS FCK.

  • 3:15 .. where am i??? :))

  • Comment removed

  • @1Thompsonmusic you don't think thats a bit racist.

  • During the whole performance i was expecting some sort of plasma comming out of his mouth.

  • @normaleruser4 hahahahahahahah!!!!

  • if i had to do faces like that i would forget what notes to play

  • Beautiful!

Langlang also shows his Masterclass @ Tchaikovsky's piano concerto no 1 and many other great pieces.

  • Great pianist. I can't wait to hear his speech at the Oscars.

  • i dont know much about music but i really enjoyed this version of my favourite chopin piece.

  • This is by far Lang Lang's best rendition. I don't think anyone could have played this better.

  • To Miss notes is one thing, “To play without passion is inexcusable!” - Ludwig van Beethoven

  • Muito perfeito. O cara toca muito. Eu levei 3 meses para conseguir tocar, mais quando eu toco fica perfeito também. rsrs

  • WOW, such passion and movement was put into this, anyone who dislikes this needs to rethink what music actually is :P

  • You dont need to make the corny orgasm faces to play Chopin well-.the greatest performers did not. He is musically quite perfect to listen to-just hard to watch ,

  • I don't like some of the rubatos. But he did put his soul into the performance -- maybe too much to interpret Chopin but himself.

  • he articulates all the voices pretty well, but he has some strange rubato timings and he has a problem with his keeping his tempo. He speeds up in places where its absolutely not needed aswell which I really dont like

  • DON'T MAKE FUN OF HIM - MAYBE HE HAS NO CONTROL OVER HIS FEET AND THUS THE HEAVY PEDAL - MAYBE HE IS PARALYZED FROM THE WAIST DOWN - HAS ANYONE REALLY SEEN HIM WALK ? WHEN THEY CUT TO THE WIDE SHOT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A STAND-IN, OR IN THIS CASE A WALK-IN SUBSTITUTE - HE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL THINGS LIKE MOST PIANISTS - BUT DON'T MAKE FUN OF HIM.

OCUBOX - THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS "PERFECT PITCH" IT'S JUST A "BUZZWORD" AND MEANS NOTHING - BUT SOME CAN BE TRAINED AND / OR MUSICALLY ADEPT...

  • What the hell? This is quite awful actually.

  • over-rated. the only reason this man is popular is because the marketeers need an asian to pump up and sell to the asian masses. way more people to pick pocket from the eastern side of the world. and then there's the uncultured white folk who enjoy these performances, and buy into the glamour of the spot light. he appeals to the same sort of people who enjoy the circus for entertainment.

  • @jhardknox Mr its the ACCOUNTANT DRIVE the world

  • he is just putting his soul to the peice

  • He makes Richard Clayderman look sh*t...

  • I wonder what the guy at 0:20 said...

  • @aldencic me too, me too...

  • which hall is this?

  • @StreetPerforming It is the Digital Concert hall of the Berliner Philharmoniker

  • Perfect timing for the slow parts as well as the fast parts. You really are the best pianist I ever heard.

  • perfect timing of rubato..

  • Sometimes I just think that people dislike a performance because it's Lang Lang. If I'd take this Audio and upload it under the title "Kissin plays..." nobody would even care and just like it

  • @ltran90 Agree with you all the way on this one..

  • I've been willing to give Lang Lang a chance until I saw this video of the E Major Etude. Good grief . . . . maybe I could take it better without the visual.

  • @psforrest1 Continuation . . . and yes, what are those cascading chords at double the speed. I think he's trying to make this into a work by LIszt, rather than what Chopin wrote.

  • @psforrest1 The best thing to do with a Lang Lang video is avoid watching it at all costs.. the moment that shit loads you gotta be down in the comment section

  • tbh this is his best performance in my opinion...

  • very beautiful...

  • Not perfect at all in the interpretation however, several parts of that I found absolutely spine tingling and forgive me - a little inspirational? (loved the clarity of the thirds, fourths and sixths at that speed also, may I add).

  • perfect I love it the song and the composition

  • Interprétation déviée ----- quel dommage.....

  • This guy has the best expression! You are the best pianist I have ever heard!

  • wow amazing!

  • the performance is beautiful.

I understand the inconvenience some people have about his facial expressions. the reason why it bothers you is because those are really intimate moments for the pianist, if you were him probalbuy

  • The music is brilliant - but come one, that face expression... That face.

  • he plays every note with emotion and perfection. He is an example of a truly phenomenal and gifted pianist. <3

  • feel feel.. :)

  • @cKypSylvie

    I'm trying. I'm trying.

  • The point of music is to listen and feel, his face...his reaction is how he feels about the piece. I Listened and truly appreciated the song for how it was and not how he looked like and it was indeed beautiful

  • he is amazing, a pianist and a comedian!

  • Astounding!!!

  • For those who think that his facial expression is funny, its only because u cannot comprehend those emotions flowing out of his music! What a beautiful performance

  • @yaxiongjiayou expressions of emotion don't come out of your face; it comes out of your playing.

  • 彈的很棒啊 味道有出來 幸好我不是去看現場不然會睡死= =|||

  • Beautifully played. He's very sutil

  • Nebilouso, I feel very sorry for you and others like you who are so hell bent to critcize that you are unable to enjoy this fine performance by an outstanding pianist! The audience certainly showed their appreciation on hearing him perform!

  • @CanadaPisces I feel sorry for people who like this simpering, attention-seeking self-indulgence. The man's just playing to the audience. Listen to Pollini, Rubenstein or anyone with a modicum of musical integrity for god's sake!!!

  • @CanadaPisces David Hasselhoff is the number one perforner in Germany/. Enuff said.

  • Oh, this is terrible. I think I can hear every pianist, and everyone in the orchestra, cringe.

  • This is my favourite !

  • Can I dislike this more than once? Is it weird that I also want to report this as inappropriate so no more uneducated people will think that this is art?

  • What a farse...All Lang Lang can do is try to replicate what true artists have said in their own performances.

I think I just threw up in my mouth.

  • Too slow. Too fast on the sixths section. As usually on Lang Lang, emotion is equal to weird faces...

    I`m gonna puke...

  • i'm very ole skool and love artur rubinstein---but this is very very special. the recording value is so great and lang lang communicates such love for this beautiful music of chopin's. thank you very much for putting this up

  • Great performance

  • Beautiful

  • LANG LANG TOUT SIMPLEMENT UN VRAI PLAISIR DE PIANISTE MERCI A LUI ! AMITIÉ RAYMOND

  • I love it I love it I love it. I just cannot get enough of this piece. Lang Lang is a genius.....and you too Chopin ;)

  • I adore how animated he is (for the lack of a better word).... shows his passion... he isnt just playing piano for everyones entertainment... he is losing himself in the music....and what lovely music it is!!! Hes amazing!!! I believe he plays like this even when alone. He plays pieces in a way that even the composers would have to go "wow" or whatever word they used then LOL

  • He looks upward, reaching for Chopin's spirit. It is as if Chopin was talking directly to Lang Lang, and Lang Lang is talking to us. Lang Lang is only the medium. He is trying to tell us what Chopin is saying...

And Chopin is saying get off this stage, you fake, you charlatan, farceur. You debase my music.

  • @miker2001 Hey, speak for yourself, not for Chopin.

  • is he having an orgasm?

  • This is so beautiful, peaceful, and calming.

  • great tone production... too slow though to feel it at it's best

  • this is the best performance of this piece ever, unbelievable.

  • MUSIC is the universal language, not math

  • tristesse is part of a scientific term, PCT, which is sadness after having sex haha

  • it looks like he is steady getting head

  • And BTW, he is gay, I read it in a very discrete paragraph of a Chinese "kind of" magazine, even though that this has granted him a lot of trouble in his country... you know, China doesn't support being gay.

  • @viktoruschka so?

  • @MDkid1 Nothing at all, mein Herr! :) He's ok as he is... I just said what I said because some people are wondering if "he is" or not. It's irrelevant, i should say.

  • I think he's cute, hehehe.... Don't be so harsh on him.

  • NO ONE plays this better.

  • tender,intuitive,loved it

  • When I was listening to the music, I was trying to turn the volume as high as possible, and I even considered hooking it up to the speakers, but when the applause came, I was like "Holy shit that's loud!!"

  • WOW!

  • 3:16 - Yo Lang Lang, are you playing piano, or are you trying to pose like a Julius Caesar statue???

  • Of course study and discipline are good things and essential, but music is about communication partly intellectual but largely, and most importantly, on a on deeply personal emotional level. And by that definition, Lang Lang is a Master musician.

  • What a contrast to the many "correct" interpretations I hear, which attempt through, study of score, history and technique to uncover the composers "true" intentions. To me this is like making love by-the-book, rather than with acceptance of the feelings, bared soul, and personal revel in the give-and take

  • Lang has the strength of character to make what he plays his own, and he has the skill and knowledge to do it intelligently, confidently, and above all, as-he- feels-it. His music making breathes and pulses with life and emotion and THAT not only connects with his listeners, it embraces them.

  • This is for all those people who think Lang Lang = Bang Bang.

  • A lovely experience. Thanks for posting. Best wishes.

  • ROFL it's like he's getting a blowjob

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzz

  • I think he really took the fact that this was Chopin's favorite composition to heart. I wouldn't listen to any other interpretation.

  • Comment removed

  • say what you will about the technical aspects of his playing, but I believe he conveyed the feeling and musicality of the piece to his audience quite well, wouldn't you agree?

  • his pedaling is brilliant but yes, I agree about the weird tempos...ugh!

  • Fraseggio sensa senso! Confusione armonica strutturale e timbrica! Tempo in sintonia con il non senso agogico!

  • His tempo in the middle section was horrifyingly uneven, as his Chopin always is, but his dynamic range and pedalling was wonderful.

  • This is music....this is simply emaculant any one that dosn't think this sounds good needs to saw off there ears and throw them in the trash.....

  • S U B L I M E

  • Wow, such poetic rendtion! Bravo! Agree with "TheRealCritique". Pianists nowadays lack personality and sound alike. Lang Lang, though may not be everyone's "cup of tea", dares to infuse his own understanding and interpretation on all the pieces he plays. He is not out to please everyone, but to share his ideas. We cannot but respect him for his tremendous talent. (I do admit that I have to close my eyes occasionally due to his "comical" antics!)

  • If he cant use his face 2 play de piano, then he wouldn't be expressing enough

  • I got chills as my heart swelled with his beautiful playing of an amazing song.

  • Lang Lang is Simply Put "A COOL ARTIST" Nuff Said :)

  • @OCUBOX and u're simply put as a "DUMBFAG WHO's MUSICALLY DEAF!"

  • @aznlawrenzo if you call Having Perfect Pitch Musically Deaf, then i guess you're right! :)

  • @OCUBOX

Having perfect pitch has nothing to do with being a good musician.

  • @misserinelizabeth57 you have to admit though, it seriously helps !

  • @misserinelizabeth57 ? it has everything to do.

  • @misserinelizabeth57 Nothing, so you're saying that there's is a correlation of 0% between having the perfect pitch and being a good musician? Haha, your comment is not smarter than the one your are replying to.

  • @misserinelizabeth57 Nothing isn't the right word, "plays a tiny part" is better, but I do get your point.

  • @aznlawrenzo ALSO WHY did you "like" the video, TROLL Idiot.

  • @OCUBOX cos u cant put some1 like him as simply a "cool artist"

he's worth much more than that

  • @aznlawrenzo oh, then I agree, I thought you were DISAGREEING with me about how AWESOME he is!

  • PAGLIACCIO!

  • i love lang lang's interpretation of chopin's tristesse... i like evgeny kissin's too... but i love lang lang's...

  • Ah.... so emotive. All you people don't understand the face pulling when it comes to music. It means he's putting emotions into a song so you really feel the music not just hear it.

  • Aaah, nice and slow!! Finally! This is a great performance... Playing Chopin should be a revelation every time.

  • I've been looking for this piece for such a long time. Heard it once on the way home but did not know the name. Finally !

  • You can love him or hate him, but the tempo of the A section is far slower than what Chopin wrote, and the extreme changes of tempo aren't in the score, either. In addition, at one point Lang Lang actually doubles the speed of the notes in some phrases. In other words, this is not the piece Chopin wrote. The interpretation is so extreme that it goes beyond individual expressiveness into the realm of rewriting the piece. Just too much. And dropping F-bombs all over your comments won't help.

  • @EleneDOM Exactly, he plays the descending passage in double the speed, as if there were thirty-second notes instead of sixteenth notes. I think Chopin would have been extremely pissed if he had heard Lang Lang changing his compositions in such a way.

The only part that I liked is a dreamy beginning until approx 0:40 when he started adding his typically over-exaggerated and poor taste rubato. Ughh... :(

  • @shyic Why not change compositions? Lang Lang is no slave, serving the ghost of Chopin (which he might be forced to after he goes to hell to meet him there). Presently he makes heavenly music for others and for himself ... i.e. on earth.

  • Listening to this was like having wonderful Sex!

Excuse my Words. But it was.

    Exceptional Interpretation!

  • i am an argerich and kissin fan. love lisitsa and sokolov. but this lang lang version of 10 3 is uber.

  • All of you haters should just try playing the piano with the expertise, speed, and captivating skill that Lang Lang plays with and see how many dislikes you get on your video. Because I'm pretty sure that people will be commenting more on how bad it sounds compared to this instead of comparing how your face looks to his. There is such a thing called "EMOTION" when one plays music; and everyone's interpretation of it is different. His just happens to be more exaggerated than everyone else's.

  • hands down my favorite interpretation of the piece, I just don't feel right anymore listening to others after I heard this.

  • @taintofshadow i feel the same way ling is just not aggresive as ive heard others take chopin .

  • @taintofshadow I Totally AGREE!

  • As far as I am concerned, his theatricality adds to the fun.

  • @bhaihay It has nothing to do with theatricality.

  • Perfect and excellent! But I must close my eyes, I really hate to be disturbed.

  • Great playing, but kind of sad he plays on a Steinway and not a Pearl River... I guess Chinese people have no pride in their own products, even the world-class ones... or is it about making money at every chance???

  • @hbj200

I don't think it's quite possible to find a Pearl River when one plays outside of China. Also, Lang Lang is a Steinway artist like many others, which means he's contracted to play exclusively on Steinway. Most importantly, what piano one plays has nothing to do with his or her national pride. It just makes a lot more sense to play on a Steinway. It's like when given a choice, one would rather choose an Italian-made pizza than a Chinese-made one, don't you think?

  • This was most sensitively played and enjoyable. The lad looked fine,,nothing at all wrong with him!!..((.To the Haters,,,,if you don't like something, then don't look at it,,you stupid bigoted b*****ds !!) I wish this artist every success. Many thanks for posting,,and Best Wishes.

  • Is he high?

  • @martinisipe he's high on music, yes

  • I hate his faces, but...wow! i´ve never ever heard a best performance of this piece!

  • Thick as he is, he suspects that the different parts of the context of the piece of music is somehow coherent and related. So, he tries - Lord knows he tries - to give his playing some semblance of sensibility, but everything still comes out lumpy, disjointed, and curiously strange.

I am a Chinese too, and I sadly hang my head in shame and wonderment.

  • @maidestone After making a snobbishly nonsensical comment on one of the best piano performances on YouTube, you should just hang yourself from a tree--just a joking suggestion lol. Don't really do that, ok?

  • wow. 2:45. never in a million years, ill be able to play that section THAT fast! thats crazy man!

  • mean

  • Go Lang lang! You made China proud!

  • 3:39

    ้ำ้he's yawning

    hahaha

  • @TheRealCritique omg thank youuuu for stating that...people need to learn how to appreciate music and the musician..

  • if you can't stand his behaviour, buy a cd

  • not models but still, no need to show fuck face while playing beautiful music

  • @stevieaw he can put on the face he wants, cause he rocks

  • who gives a fuck what he looks like? He's a musician not a model. THis stupid generation needs to learn the difference. There aren't enough models in the world to equal one Lang Lang, even if he wasn't the greatest pianist in the world. Models are a dime a dozen - do you morons get that yet? They belong in pictures not making music.

  • @TheRealCritique THANKKK YOUUUUU

  • @TheRealCritique I couldn't agree with you more!

  • @TheRealCritique I like him, and as long as you don't judge his playing for this, you've got to admit that he makes some really special faces...

  • @TheRealCritique Shut yr fuckin mouth, close yr fuckin eyes, listen and feel with yr ears, with yr heart, dont waste yr fuckin time on sayin these fuckin words
