  • There's no accounting for taste? Preschoolers are learning their first Virgil here, why of course!

  • LOL. Ernie and Bert got the right reactions to seeing a statue touch you, move around and talk to you. Yeah, I'd be literally frozen with fear if I was in museum and saw a statue came to life like that with no explanation.

  • only one thing i can say instant classic who could not like bert and ernie

  • I remember seeing this about 14 years ago. I wasn't scared, but I do remember by the end of the sketch I felt glued to the floor, staring at the screen. I had experienced my first "WTF did I just watch?" moment.

  • I liked how, after Bert thought Ernie was being ridiculous when he was scared, HE got scared himself in the end.

  • OMG.. this was just on TV now. I remember it scaring me as a little kid, and now my 2 year old was afraid of it. Thanks Sesame Street, scaring generations of little kids...

  • the music is a bit creepy too.

  • lol..funny

  • Yeah, it scared me a little when I was a kid, seeing the statue start to move.. but now I think it's hilarious. Ernie and Bert are the best! <3

  • I loved this as a kid. I wasn't sure if I was remembering this correctly, but I searched this and there it was. I thought I had imagined this sketch. This was a very memorable one.

  • what preschooler!!! this was the best ones so far a little scary but very funny

  • Still Scares Me A Little Ahaaaa:)

  • 1:31 scared me when I was a kid and still scares me now lol Ik it's harmless and not meant to freak kids out...but it does!

  • i cant believe people were afraid of this the first time i saw this i was prob about six and i laughed like a maniac like i was hyperventilating it was the funniest thing i ever saw

  • @chasz25tsax Oh good, I wasn't the only one ;P

  • What were they thinking putting this on TV, at 7 years old I was scared to death by this skit. Truthfully, I am still creeped out by this even today.

  • @inventor564 They were thinking this was something innocent and clever - like all the rest of the Sesame Street content. What are you - some kind of hypersensitive wimp?

  • I can agree that this one is a little creepy at first but it soon becomes a little silly and it makes you laugh by the end of it.

So really, this was very harmless and very good fun for me as a child and I recommend it for any parents to show their children in today's world.

  • @sonic8005 same here

  • @chasz25tsax i know i used to be scared to death when i was like 5 lol

  • Can't believe this sketch was made all the way back in 1982... maybe that's why I find it so scary lol. RIP Jim Henson

  • Are the pyramids REALLY like this?

  • the funniest part is when ernie glide around the floor to call bert

  • This one was actually kind of creepy. Maybe it's the music.

Oh and I always love these sketches, because it's Jim Henson and Frank Oz playing off each other. You get a real sense of their friendship.

  • OMG i remember this one kinda scared me/creeped me out when i was younger lol

  • This would be awesome as part of a Nostalgia Critic video..maybe he could do a Top 11 creepiest moments in children's programming lol

  • Hello old fear.....

  • I loved this sketch! Bert and Ernie were my favorite muppets!

  • @freedombear79

I liked them a lot too!

  • That's probably the most fun the Statue had in centuries.

  • This is classic--I love the part where Ernie and the statue dance.

  • i had an orgy when they had cookies in bed

  • why would it know where his bike is? THATs why is didn't answer.

  • I still would've started off this sketch with an establishing shot of the exterior of the pyramid. That would've made it even cooler!

  • @wileyk209zback Back when I first saw this I thought the opening shot of the big foot was creepy.

  • it didn't matter how old i was. at 3 i was scared of it, at 7, when my younger brothers watched it, i was still scared of it, and at 20 browsing through youtube, i still think it's sketchy.

  • No wonder chandler from friends and i really like ernie's personalty.

  • Happy birthday Jim Henson

  • Trolling Statue

  • What's the capital of Delaware? hahahaha

  • @FakeMusicSnob Dover

  • I'm another person who was really scared by this skit as a kid.

  • not sure how they expected this NOT to scare kids... lmao.

i was so scared about this that i couldn't even look at the videotape OUT of the vcr. :S

  • This is hilarious. As a kid I thought this was scary. Now i'm an adult and i crack up at all funny lines added here and there for anyone to enjoy! I loved the part from 0:35-0:47.

  • 3:46 onwards is the best part by far!

  • I loved loved loved this!!!

  • well this never ever scared me when I was a kid. This was one of my favourite Bert and Ernie sketches. And the Ernie statue was friendly. He just wanted to play.

  • i know this was part of a movie but i dont remember what it was called does anyone know?

  • @jayd95 It's more than likely a homage to Abbott & Costello Meet the Mummy.

  • ROFL! Beeeeeeert!! Ohhhhhhhh Bert! Sounds kinda' like a howling dog, eh? xD

  • Hello childhood, my old friend... :D

  • "If you're watching videos with your preschooler"... What? My preschooler is at school. I'm 28 year's old, leave me alone!

  • OMG This used to freak me out big time. I would go on to be afraid of Mack the Knife in the McDonald commercials as a tween and now I'm super freaky King from the burger King commercials as an adult.

  • Oh Lord! I Love this so much :)

  • Ccc

  • shades of abbott and costello routines right here

  • i can almost guarantee the music was added later. When I watched this segment in the mid 80's there was no background music

  • @ilovemayo123 indeed, and I prefer the original version, which is also on youtube. The silence is deafening.

  • Wow...I had no idea that so many other people were scared by this segment too. It really must have had an effect on me when I was a little kid, because I still remember it sometimes and think about how spooky it was...

  • I was always surprised that the Bert statue didn't say "Bye-bye!" to Bert at the end of the sketch...always loved how he says "This one's a handsome statue!".

  • used to scare me too as a kid

  • This scared the piss out of me as a kid lmfao XD

  • This terrified me as a child. I can't believe I found this.

  • i miss being young again ... when seseme street was the highlight of my day...

  • This used to piss me off as a kid because the statue was making Ernie look like a fool in front of Bert!

  • i'm 22 now. aaaand, yup, still creepy...

  • Is it bad that this scared me stupid and im 13 yrs old?

  • Ernie woke up the Mummy.

  • HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Ernie: "You didn't tap me, did you, statue?"

    Statue: "Sure I did..."

    Ernie: "Sure it-.......BERRRRRRRRRRTT!!!!!!!OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!BERTBERTBERTBERT!!!!"

  • no accounting for taste hahaha

  • @cageofman Yeah I always like these type of lines that they throw in for the adults.

  • "You didn't tap me, did you, statue?" "WHY SURE I DID." "BUUUUURT!! OOOOOOHoooohOOOOOOoooooOOOOOHBERTBERTBERTBERTBertBERTBertBERT!!!!" I mean, I laugh, but -- I would sound JUST LIKE THAT. And this is why I do not go into spooky dark pyramids to this day. I Know What Might Happen.

  • It was even creeeepier in black and white, back when!

  • OMG i remember this when i was 5 THIS SCARED ME SOOO MUCH! I wanted my rubber duckie!

  • Classic Abbot and Costello routine :)

  • come on statue talk!!! lol

  • The music during the 1:34-1:46 mark almost sounded like the "Steel Mill Theme" where the I-Beam was molded. I wonder who played the part of the Ernie statue.

  • @JeffK1980 I think it was Bob Payne.

  • Ya know A thought just occured to me... they oughta make a SEQUAL to this skect for Ernie And Bert's Great Adventures where they come BACK to this tomb and this tome... BOTH statues move

  • i remember getting freaked out when i was a kid. totally.

  • At the end as soon as Ernie and Bert were going to leave the pyramid, I used to think that Ernie was going to want the statue to come home with him and Bert since Ernie started to like and make friends with the statue at the end. I just think this because, in the skit where Ernie and Bert were making a snowman, Ernie didn't want to leave the snowman alone because for one thing, it was cold outside, and the other reason was that he told Bert that he will miss the snowman. (Maybe the statue too)

  • I SWARE the Bert statue moved too!

  • Why is Ernie not so scared for the statue to be dancing with him while he's scared for the statue to be tapping him and talking to him? I wonder maybe if it was because he was glad to hear and know that the statue shares the same interest with him that Ernie and the statue love Rubber Ducky and the statue knows the Rubber Ducky song very well.

  • At 4:26, when Bert said that him and Ernie should go home, did he mean that they should head back to Sesame Street in New York or, did he mean that they should go back to their home at the hotel which is their home while they're on vacation in Egypt? If he meant to head back to New York where Sesame Street is, that was strange because they just arrived in Egypt after so long as Bert said from 0:59-1:00 and then they just travel back to New York which will be tiring to leave as soon as arriving.

  • @afriendofbean You don't call your hotel room 'Home' when you're on vacation? We do it all the time

  • @Tanyableu I understand. It can be strange to call your hotel room as your "home" when you're not from that state. The reason I mentioned about Bert saying to go home if it was at a hotel was because, in the past I have stayed in a hotel on vacation with other people and when we would go sightseeing they all would say at the end "lets go home now" meaning back to the hotel where I'm just in the habit of calling a hotel room you stay in as your home while you're staying there on vacation.

  • @GarfieldVsSnoopy Maybe because either the Bert statue wasn't alive like the Ernie statue or, the Bert statue just wanted to do his responsibiity of being a statue not moving and just keeping still. (Since both statues look like Ernie and Bert, the Ernie statue wanted to act silly like Ernie is sometimes, and the Bert statue wanted to act serious like Bert is sometimes). Maybe once Ernie and Bert left the pyramid, the Bert statue said to the Ernie statue "stop moving and talking to people."

  • everyone had the same feelings about this when they where small lool scary shit lol

  • As soon as Ernie and Bert left the pyramid, I wonder if the Bert statue said to the Ernie statue with anger "will you please stop moving around and misbehaving whenever people enter this pyramid and just stay standing in your spot like I am?!" Maybe the Bert statue did say this to the Ernie statue which is probably the reason why the Bert statue never moved or talked.

  • lol the sound when the statue taps Ernie's nose :D

  • 10 People have no Childhood.

  • This reminds me of the Moving Candle bit from Abbot and Costellou

  • I loved this skit when I was younger!

"The staaaa...the staaaa....the staaaatatue talked to me Bert!"

  • this used to scare the crap out of me. lol

  • Yeah the music scared me when i was little but now i like it!

  • @Cuteblondie1972 Yes it was added in the 1990s. This sketch was also often cut short during that time too, for timing reasons, I think. (The version here is the uncut version but with the added music)

  • reminds me of abbot and costello meet the mummy

  • this scared the shit out of me when i was younger

  • @steevo454 me too....and i loved it lol

  • @steevo454 i remember i would make my mom fast forward it when i watched it on vhs haha.

  • I thought this was the most scariest Sesame Street scene ever when i was 4.

  • I've been avoiding this Bert and Ernie clip for too long- now that I see it again, I can appreciate the genius performances and writing Sesame Street had. Of course I was just too scared to see it since I was little when this first came on.

  • Yes I found it!!! This was my absolute favourite sketch! :D <3 I remember watching it when I was younger xD

  • too scary for children!!!!

  • @emeretta2010 I saw his when I was about 7, and it didn't scare me! ^__^ Actually, it became my favorite Bert and Ernie sketch EVER....and still is, 20 years later.

  • 1:55-2:13 was the only thing inappropriate for kids here.

  • why dont they show these any more there so good....

and also the one i was also scared of was the original alfibet ...song were the letter fly to the side an the scary music..LOL

  • same skit from Three Stooges?

  • Inappropriate for children. It scares me today!

  • @Agg6 "Inappropriate for children"? Are you kidding me?

Children are far more capable than adults give them credit for. Instead of sheltering them from harsh realities, you might try breaking things down in a way they can deal with.

That way, they might grow up to be adults who aren't still scared of a Sesame Street sketch.

  • Wouldn't it have made more sense for the Bert statue to say "bye bye" to Bert at the end instead of the Ernie statue?

  • @kellymj11

No, because that statue wasn't the talking one.

  • oh gosh i miss these days sighhhh

  • This made me remember, I had a friend who had a handycraft Bert face, I didn't like to use the restroom there because Bert's face was on the way to the restroom and he was scary as hell >.<

  • K,,

  • I remember this... it must be 15+ years old!

  • OMG MY SISSY SAM LOVES THIS SHE MAKES THE PERFECT IMATATION OF ERNIES STATUE HEHEHEHEHEHEHE I LOVE THIS IT REMINDS ME OF SAMMY MY CRAZZY SISSY LOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • LOOK AT ALL THIS KNOWLEDGE!!!!

  • Is it just me, or are Bert and Ernie the Abbott and Costello of the puppet world?

  • This video scared me now as it did when I was young.

  • we had a video with this on it when I was little i was really scared of the statue! even though it's meant to be nice!

  • Reminds me of "Night at the Museum" :D

  • This terrified me as a child. I'm 21 and still scared of it!

  • The music makes it scarier thumbs up if you agree

  • @fanboy16ful 1:34 - 1:43 maybe, but apart from that, I think the music makes it less scary.

p.s. There's no need to say 'Thumbs up if you agree' - that's what the thumb up feature is for!

  • The music makes it scarier

  • Thumbs up, if this scared you while you were younger

  • @ConvertAid Dude I could'nt sleep for weeks as a kid. lol they still make fun of me when Bert and Ernie"s name come up lol

  • i don't remember ever seeing this episode when i was a kid. I'm 19 now and after seeing this cartoon, i find it very humorous. However i do find it a bit eerie that a statue would tap me so suddenly like what happened here lolz. But the fact that the statue looks a lot like Ernie and even knows the same song makes it better XD "what are the odds?" right? lolz

  • This used to scare the living crap out of me when I was young

  • lol i was in a hurry bc i needed to drop my lol sister off to school :P

  • the staaa.....the staaa.....the staaatue just talked to me bert.......always cracks me up

  • When I was 3, I cried because of that statue.

  • They're in a pyramid. They must've walked 6000 miles!!!! LOL

  • I was so scared of this when I was a kid. I don't think I ever saw Bert and Ernie again!

  • Oh.My.God.Blast.From.The.Past.

  • lol that statue really scared me as a kid

  • This scared me when I was a kid lol!

  • aww my little nease loves ur videos ty for putting on sesame videos i love seing my nease learn things from these videos and laughing :D

  • @toontownskatergirl You should probably learn how to spell "niece."

  • @KATEisFAB

Ernie and Bert going back home instead of staying at the museum to see more statues including two statues of themselves a little bit more longer? NO WAY!

  • Comment removed

  • 8 ppl cant find Delaware

  • my favorite sketch

  • I always got a kick out of this one.

When I was a kid this this skit didn't have the sounds of footsteps or that music being played when Bert was exploring the tunnel.

  • 0: 38 - 0:45 they're cussing each other out XD I laughed so hard cause it was done like it would be with real people between really old friends

  • I liked this back when I first saw it when I was little and I still do.:)

  • I remember crying when I saw this as a kid. SCARY.

  • Yeah I remember when I was 4, I would hide myself under my bed sheets and not watch this scene. The music even gives it an eerie feel to it.

Now, it kind of bothers me a bit.

    a bit.

  • INDIANA!... Bert?

  • I also got nightmares from that statue! I don't think it would scare kids now because they are so immune to this stuff. There is far more scarier things on tv these days. My son started laughing when the statue started dancing!

  • I remember so vividly how utterly terrified this one sketch made me. But never so terrified that I would leave the room for one moment.

  • do you reckon the simpsons were inspired by bert just the yellow and all.

  • ahahahahahaha the statue had a good laugh at bert thats for sure

  • I thought I was the only one who was scared of this as a kid. Good to know I'm not alone.

  • BEEEEEEERRRTTT!!!!

  • @BigEasyWinger ERNIEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This used to scare me SO much as a kid! I think it was how the acoustics were in the room. It was a very haunting, TERRIFYING sound in that room. And then the mummy started messing around with Ernie and talking and I was like,"Just LEAVE the room, you orange son of a bitch!" SO scary! Who cares if they started dancing at the end. I'm okay now but when I was a kid I was not feeling this at ALL!

  • when i was a kid i used to be scared of this and cry when my dad put it on

  • Why would the Ernie statue com to life, But not Bert?

  • @panda374

The Bert statue is too prudent for such shenanigans. To be perfectly honest, though, it would've been all the more priceless if it had been the Bert statue that bid Bert goodbye.

  • I had the VHS of this episode. the VHS tape was green. I LOVED this!! & i stll do. haha

  • I have looked at SesameStreet so many times, and each time it were the same Bert and Ernie clips I'd seen for hundreds of times. And on this channel I see some many clips I've never seen when I was a kid. It is unjust! Thanks Disney for posting all this!

  • Oh yes, this one used to scare me! The ernie mummy coming alive and all. D:

  • oh man, this used to freak me out as a kid, but in hindsight it's one of my favourite Ernie and Bert moments :)

  • Bert... Bert... did you tap me?

  • whats the capital of deleware?
