what an incredible song.. the golden age of music, and I was born many years after this song was released. why can't they make stuff like this anymore? are we resigned to listening to justin beiber until the end of time?
Nobody's lived til they had the privelege like I did to have lived just down the street on E. Grand Blvd in Motown; just a half a mile from Barry Gordy's 'Lab'. What a blast to have been walking down E. Grand past Hitsville and to have seen the likes of Martha and the Vandellas, or one of the Supremes coming out of the Building after a recording session. The greatest memory: riding my bike and almost hitting Diana Ross. She forgave this little brat.
@1Supagraph my favourite song of all time and thats some statement to make but try standing still from the first beat . is it the fingers or the shoulders but what a party the elbows get into, and by the way i'm sitting down as i type this ,after the first few bars i'm like a new born foal ,by the end i'm like an old fool ,this old heart is still weak for love
one of the most underated isley brother songs. went to one of their concerts and this wasn't even a number they did. i was SO DISSAPOINTED. that was the song i was looking foward to the most.
remember dancing for my parents when they had company. me and my sister looked so silly doing the pony, but we had fun. miss you sis!. always in my heart!!.
Talk about a Song to Dance To ! This was the record ! ..Ps. You may want to hear Curtis Mayfield's Song , " I can't Satisfy ", I lot of people thought it was this song , but it wasn't ! I knew the difference and Also , It was a Great Fast ( Hand ) Dance Song ! I loved Dancing to both of these Songs ! ^5 ^5 ^5 ^5 <---My Highest rating for both song's ... LoL .. ;-)
Wow, I'm finding out by listening to all these on youtube, all the "broken hearted" songs I know are from the 50's and 60's- and most of them are motown. It really does make me feel better to listen to these, and I agree; people need to listen to more quality music so that the next gen musicians will be inspired to do better- not worse, than the last generation.
i love the isleys, check out the album 3+3 and there version of james taylors Dont let me be lonley tonight ,so much feeling ,you feel they sing out of experiance

This great is the epitomy of soul,Tamla Motown, and simply makes you feel great, whatever your sadness. Not many songs can do that. Thanks to 1Supagraph for uploading
One of my earliest memories is waking up on a weekend morning and hearing this song billowing down the halls of our house and seeing my mom dancing and cooking in the kitchen. Life was sweet.
@elementz1986 Every songs seems to have a memory from growing up, some of them a sort of sad but peaceful feeling , and some a very happy feeling and im so glad i grew up when i did 60 & 70s
This fantastic track is totally the best song EVER written. No matter what mood you are in or how life is going, just play this and instantly feel soooo good.....
@motownmad1: Oh, I agree with you, no matter what mood you're in, this song will instantly make you feel soooo good!
But please listen to Smokey Robinson singing "More Love" (make sure it's the original, not live or anything). Smokey wrote "More Love" for his wife who was in the hospital after her 7th miscarriage! It is a TRUE LOVE SONG FROM THE HEART!! As much as "This Old Heart of Mine" is so special and perfect, "More Love" really brings tears to my eyes! Best love song EVER written!!!!
@dulcismaria Thank you so much for your post about Smokey and "More Love". He has always been one of my favorites anyway and now even more so. Thank you again.
Anybody else ever notice how much the bridge in this song resembles The Supreme's "Back In My Arms Again?" (released in 1965). A great song nonetheless.
Such a nice song, I wasn't around back then when this music was new, but its such a simple and feel good song. I could imagine having a record player listening to songs like these on a saturday afternoon.
I want singer to listen to this no one is called anything but woman or my love or lover no *&^%$ or &*(^% I can not listen to the music some of it too many curse !!!! 1001 I take you back !!!!!!!
More and more parents from the 70s era need to play this type of music in their homes to re-establish a standard of excellence in music to the young. They say the human mind is very programmable and so if that is true.....put this quality of music in the children''s head. Take away that poisonous rap crap thats talking about bitches and hoes and violence. I believe just like we must feed our bodies quality foods inorder to stay healthy...we must also feed our minds the right things too.
@READY4REVELATION My mum used to play this to me all the time throughout my childhood. I'm 18 and still love this kind of music. I'm in a band which makes this older style of music as my bandmates' mums and dads used to play music like this to them too. There are more of us than you think out there! This style of music will make a comeback like any other piece of music, so just hold out for abit longer. You might like Aloe Blacc and Raphael Saadiq, modern practitioners of older R 'n' B and soul.
I sometimes forget how much this music effects who I am today. I grew up listening to this with my parents on the road, always loving these tunes. I am.. 24, and also grew up listening to Ozzy, Black Sabbath, and other bands, but these 'oldies' are always going to be among my favorite songs.
@READY4REVELATION You'll be pleased to know then that i was born in the 90's and motown was always being blasted from the speakers in the house and car from the day i was born :) I absolutley love motown!
MustangSally, TAMLA was not named after one of his daughters. It was actually named after a song Tammy, by Doris Day. Because of it's popularity Gordy chose that, a current hit and similar sounding name for recognition.
it's timeless classics like these that make me regret I was born so young cause its cause of songs like these that can help anyone do the Freak holla Ladies feel a brotha!!
The seventh Doctor Who whistles this "jaunty tune" while wandering in a field, much to the puzzlement of his Edwardian companion Joan Redfern, who comments, "An n- band, probably." (Human Nature, by Paul Cornell, 1995)
So I just had to come here and learn it. It reminds me of the Fine Young Cannibals (who were therefore influenced by the Isley Brothers?).
Mustangsally has got it all right. Anywhere you'd go back in the 60's there was always a radio you could hear coming from a car, a house, at the beach, department stores. And if you didn't hear Ernie Harwell announcing a Tigers game you'd certainly hear the feel good tunes that was Motown. It is true that when Detroiter's stand up they are the tallest people in the room. What a time and place to have grown up as you just knew everyday something special was gonna happen.
How many people knew that Motown Records Was known as Tamla Records prior? Barry Gordy named after one of his daughters. I knew. I grew up in and around Detroit all my life. You could hear all the Great Motown music coming out of teenagers bedroon windows at night, as well as on the radio. AM of course.
Either WKNR Kenner13 or CKLW out of Ontario, Canada. We are neighbors you know. I've been to the now Hitsville Museum twice. The vibes in there are almost spooky. I layed on the floor.
Whoever disliked this just did it for the fact that youtube has a dislike button. Either they don't know real old school music or they were just being smart asses but this is a timeless classic which will live on forever. It makes me think of my grandfather who passed on and lived in Redondo Beach, CA. Long live KRTH 101!

@00tuoyo so tired of songs about gangstas & bitches! Bring this back anytime. Pure raw emotion! Maybe that's what's missing today...............not enough people with true emotion.
