yo! i got the solution to ur problem. as u can see, if u plug out the crack, u see 2 lines. they must be covered. so move the upper ds screen a few times and see the screen.

You're top screen is cracked get a new screen and the special screww driver to fix it

if you can't turn off you nintendo dsi and if it's frozen(top and bottom screens are blank, try doing this :

try holding the power button down for 10 seconds... it should work ;)

Same thing happened to my ds lite, the top screen is compltetely blank, if nintendo didn't use stupid custom screws it would be easy to take apart and re-connect that cable, mine doesn't even have a crack in it, nintendo needs to start usuing regulation screws an not those stupid tri pointed ones (i have a dsi now but i still have the lite)

Yea PsP's have their cracked screens and their trigger buttons not working, but thats standard in all handheld games. Ive never seen a mass defect like this in a handheld. and did anyone see the new DSi XL?

I think its kinda a waste to spend 20 more dollars on a bigger screen. I guess the DSI has some kind of defect too -.- and so they tried to make a reason to buy a different system.

mines done that, its because the cable connecting the two screens together is some how severed and not disconnected otherwise the ds wont turn on, (trust me iv just spent 7 hours replacing a case and somehow this cable got bent and broke) the only way to fix it is to replace the top screen which you can buy from amazon or ebay which im fuckin not doing its not worth this shit.

this is what happened with me. i was playing pokemon platinum and just playing it as usual then at one point the screen just went black after about 15-20 minutes. so i restarted it and it said there is no cartridge in the ds slot. restarted it again and the game was said to be in the cartridge and was working again. but i dont know if this was either just a crash or if i accidentely moved the cartridge why,ll i was playing

I have the same problem, only mine turns completely black on the top screen. I can't see it, but it works fine! It happens when the top screen is turned at certain angles and when I close and open it. I usually am able to fix it temporarily by hitting it; They're surprisingly durable.

Yeah, I just took one apart. It is the ribbon that is damaged. There is a metal ring that the ribbon runs through that cut it just from normal use. I couldn't believe this design flaw. I found a new screen on eBay for $11 with shipping.

@Tatsunokobrawl The usual reason for that happening is a bad connection of the Flexi / ribbon cables. I experienced this twice, one time it was a DSLite with the ribbon cable that connects the top screen to the main board, was a little ripped on a corner,. The other one time, is now when I finiched installing a new ribbon cable to an original DS, I think it may be the bad connectin since the image is like on ultra high contrast, almost everything white but some lines can be seen....

You will have to buy a new screen and replace the old one if the ribbon cable is damaged i had the same problem.

Well it seems like underneath the L or R button is a ribbon that looks like the film rolls found in old cameras.

When you close and open you Ds that ribbon must get bent and hit. I guess the only way to fix it is going down their and gigling the ribbon or contacting Nintendo who will try to rip u off for like $85

Well if you have a steady hand and you are sure that you dont want to get your ds repaired you could pop open the hood and see whats going on. Nintendo said my screens ribbon had been messed up. Try looking for a messed up ribbon.

Well thanks for the info but I may just get a new one instead of reaplacing any parts seeing how my dad doesnt trust Nintendo lol.

I did some research and most people are saying its a design fault caused by the pressure given to a DS when you open and close it.

My Orig DS has been doing the same thing for a month. I don;t have a crack though. If I pinch together the right side of the outside and the inside of the cover next to the top screen it would sometimes come back and show it correctly. Of course NOW (in the past couple of days) when I do it then it may make it completely white or cause the unit to shut off. I would just try and replace the screen, cable or little circuit board inside but, I am unaware of what exactly maybe causing the problem.
